Great article! I think you make a good point in that the advice to "stay in school until the job market improved" only made sense when the costs of education weren't so high. It's becoming so expensive that people are barely able to afford getting a Bachelors degree, let alone pay for a Masters (for which it is harder to get funding) or get a PhD (which can be difficult unless you are basically willing to forego 5 years of earnings). It's a tough call these days!
Life does not become more expensive with every waking moment. People make life more expensive by expecting more and more.
If you have running water, electricity, and some kind of food on your plate, you're living better than most of the world. I'm sorry, you probably didn't mean it this way, but your post sounds like a typical whining American saying "But I DESERVE more!". Understand that the past 10 years of US financial booming is not realistic and what you see around you is not sustainable.
Be happy to have food, shelter, and running water pumped into your house. Learn how to get enjoyment from people, and situations, not "things". Accept that you can't eat steak, or even pork, every night, and find enjoyment in dried beans, and be happy you have the opportunity to eat 3 meals every day, even if they're not gourmet.
I see this as an excuse for kids to just stay in college longer and enjoy the party life for a few more years. This is only going to hurt them in the long run, as they won't know what hard work actually means.
Well with the internet being international and these movie previews being American, it really does leave the rest feeling a little left out. Besides, I know the purpose of these previews is to do any last minute edits to a film before it gets released... In case the movie studios haven;t woken up yet, the rest of the world has different opinions about movies than just the US, so maybe its time they start doing these thing internationally to better judge and edit their films to suit the majority of the people who will see them... just a thought.
Watch the spending every day, but treat yourself occasionally. As an example, filling up at a gas station that's a few cents cheaper (times 20 gallons times 52 weeks) adds up to a nice bottle of New Year's bubbly, and a bit left over. My dad used to say there's nothing dumber than living poor so you can die rich.
I don't have a financial advisor. To be honest, I was mislead by one in the past when I was in the service, and have since been skeptical. Plus, with the all resources out there on the internet, it seems easier than ever to get informed about financial matters.
Now if I won the lottery, then I might need some expertise to help me manage my money. But for now, I think I can do without one.
While I prefer buying from 'half price' bookstores peddling used or mass-purchased lesser known titles, I end up at large bookstore chains. I haven't been able to buy online at Amazon, Half.com, etc. There is something about the experience that pulls me away from making it a regular choice.
I do not have a financial advisor. While I can see a real value to a trusted financial advisor, I simply don't have the resources (should I say fiscal flexibility) to hire one! As Mary stated just below me, low dollar accounts like myself are not feasible for FA's to keep on their roles. I think when one is able to invest broadly and is involved in enough market complexities, though, putting the money forward into a sole advisor could be well worth the investment.
Oh wow! They did the same thing to me! While nobody signed me up for theirs, I did discover some other discrepancies on my credit because of this tomfoolery.
Sounds like another perk of not living in Montana! Actually, you'd probably have better luck in the middle of Montana than over here on the edge. There are actually a few people there.
I for ONE am glad that I read an email forward a while back about WD-40. TODAY I needed to remove Graffiti spray paint from the side of our family vehicle. WD-40 came to the rescue. Added just a little Baking Soda and it also removed the permanent Magic Marker from the side of car too. I think I will always have a can of it around the house and in the car.

I have found the show Good Eats to be the best for those who are frugal. The Chef often shows alternative uses for foods, kitchen gadgets etc. He sometime uses a processor but often times will show alternatives. Most of the show is geared towards learning how to use a specific food like a Potato or apple.
He has shown how to do things like turn your fan ino a food dehydrater.
Alton is the coolest Chef on T.V : )
This was so timely for me. As I sit here, the apartment above me is having the carpet ripped out and hard wood flooring installed. This is only day two and I am praying for patience and the restraint to not go upstairs and unload on the workers...
I hope it works!!!! I'll try it!

Awesome list! Thanks for including us!

We have a financial advisor because it is too time consuming to keep up with the stock market, especially in these difficult times.
Hey Ashely, thanks for pointing out the post on getting out of debt!
No financial advisor at the present time. I like to make my own decisions and do the research.
