Wow, you are so right. Noise is a big issue for me. I get distracted very easy when doing my work during the day. Even when I go to the quiet area in the library, I find out it’s even more distracting. Thank for the tips. I will use them today.
I don't have a financial advisor. I don't think I have enough money to warrant one (or to pay one!). I do my own research via the Web and financial books and magazines for now.
Thank you for the info! My wife and I were just talking about this the other day. I think we're going to purchase a push-mower (old school style with no engine or solar, just blades turning with a push) soon for our yard and make some other improvements to cut back on our carbon footprint.
Why is wearing earplugs to bed a bad habit? Unless you have ear issues (wax or something) or unless you are afraid of not hearing someone breaking & entering your house/apartment at night, I don't see the problem. I also wear earplugs to bed (I love my husband, but he is a snorer). On the other hand, using music without noise-canceling headphones to drown out noise IS an awful habit. You can really damage your hearing doing that.
Its not really something I considered but maybe manufacturers to implement some of these things as default settings to save energy widespread. Imagine the cost and energy savings if every computer automatically went into sleep mode after a certain period of non-use!
Well, I imagine that if you are sitting in a sunbeam inside, you're getting as much UV light as you would outside, but if you're just inside but not actually in a direct beam of light, then you are probably safer than you would be in the sun outside. Sort of like sitting in the shade.
The one place that lots of people get sun exposure is the car - it's pretty much a fishbowl, with all the windows. Depending on the length of your commute, it can be a healthy dose of daily sun, or a massive exposure to UV rays.
No. We do not have a financial advisor. It's just not in the budget. I spoke with one a few years ago and he didn't seem interested because my investment accounts were low dollar. However, I have used some free online tools, such as Mint, Manilla and my financial institution. Thanks to your email, I am going to take a look at Adaptu.
I think a key to eating cheaper, simpler and better is to eat what is in season. The food will be fresher with a better flavor, so it won't require complicated cooking techniques or endless amounts of spices and flavors to make it palatable.
We have a financial advisor, but we also manage some on our own. A bit of both to help diversify our investments. Our guy tends to pick different than I do, but I agree with his overall strategies.
I've been really wanted to put solar panels on my house, and I was told it would cost around $67 a month for 15 years. I would be saving around $100 a month, so I'm starting to think it might be worth it. I'm not sure how it will affect my house value though. Any ideas?
Me neighbor just loooooves to use his chainsaw at 7 in the morning, so hopefully some of these will work. I'm thinking about just hiding his chainsaw from him though.
They're gutting our office building and re-doing it. Right now they're working on the other half so it can get noisy. On top of that they've also been doing a lot of repairs to the parking lots and sidewalks around the building, so it's been noisy. I've found that playing music through my headphones is the best approach to getting through the ruckus.
Prince Ella Green, I am battling Wells Fargo/DBSR/McCalla Raymer with similar issues. These banks have resorted to criminal activity which I think should be prosecuted--but finding an attorney to sincerely prosecute is near impossible, as there is such a "cozy" relationship amongst them.
I like to make it simple for my daughter to save. We have her put half of all her gift money or allowance into her savings account. So far it is working and it is really easy to do.
I'm quite satisfied with my iPhone (saves me money and space). I read with a Kindle app and navigate my way through travel guide apps. I still do consult Lonely Planet guidebooks. There's no need to buy them, you'll get them for free at hotels/hostels/guesthouses.
What a great list of money saving ideas that are easy to implement! I would like to add re-balance your portfolio at least twice a year, preferably quarterly.
The reason for closed toe shoes, is that you are entering a work environment and it would be easy to squash a toe or get cut on anything like broken glass. I most places it is an OSHA like organization that makes those rules. Great article
I come from New Zealand and have only started thinking about this issue recently upon moving to a very liberal city full of left wing extremists who hate the government, money, power and anything to do with it. Furthermore I've enrolled in an Art institution where we actually have lectures that imply that money and anyone who has it is evil.
These views are a bit extreme for me, I know that there are some very misinformed people running this country and that a lot of big businesses here don't put their wealth to any good, but I think compared to other places we have an overwhelming amount of kind millionaires.
When I was a child my mother was a house wife and my Dad worked doing whatever he could on a small farm that was one of the many properties owned by one of the country's richest men. My father's boss gave us so much, anything we needed. He offered to send me to one of the most expensive girls schools in the country for all of my schooling years paid in full (which my parents greatfully declined, probably for the better), he sent us for holidays within the coutnry and overseas, he had us over for dinner often, and invited us to all of his family's important events even though we were just the poor workers.
He is just one example of many kind millionaires who treat working class people as his friends and nothing less. Yet still all around me my peers are crying out that all people who come from wealth are evil and that money is only imaginary etc!

It is nothing to be ashamed about. Just use some public assistance until you are back on your feet!

My hubby runs an air purifier as "white noise" at night so that he cannot hear neighborhood dogs barking or the random creaky sounds our house makes.

No, we don't have a financial advisor. I can't afford that expense at the moment.
