-I am learning which stores have the best prices for many of my purchases, so I assume I am getting the best price for most items, although I am often refining what I do and switching stores. I just try to know what a good price is for my regular purchases.
- I check the grocery store ads every Wednesday and shop accordingly.
- Large purchases, you bet we comparison shop.
- We saved money by comparing Amazon, Half.com and Ebay on this fall's books for university courses.
-There are still impulse buys where we don't do any comparison such as when we see something we need and the quality is there and the price seems like a good deal.
The whole time I'm reading the article I'm thinking its about a man with a pickup-truck working on houses. That's what "contractor" has always meant to me. lol
Comparison shop? Yes. For groceries I check the local ads and clip coupons. For larger items and electronics I research the items extensively on the internet looking for the best deal. I also look for coupons and discount codes for anything I am going to purchase.
I agree its fun and free but when you include the time you need to get to the theater early enough to get far enough up in line and the time you wait for them to get everything together once your inside, its usually as long as the movie itself. Also not everyone qualifies for every screening, sometimes its limited by age, gender and so forth.
I have so much to say! I just bought a property and there was stuff that really irritated me. Please tell me if you think I am seeing things correctly.
Things the realtors/lender did that annoyed me:
It took me FOREVER to get my loan choices written down so I could see them all and make a choice. I felt I had to beg the loan lady (*itch) to get this. FINALLY, my realtor got the terms all written down and they were WRONG! I found out at escrow. I had to quickly ask for the accurate loan terms, my lender took offense wrote me two long emails on how I screwed up (I didn't) and I STILL didn't get the loan terms. FINALLY, after finally hearing me, she wrote them down hastily, FAXed them to me late at night and my realtor (who "befriended" me) PUSHED to make a choice that day! I said "I need a day, OK?" I was so annoyed.
On the add for the property, I discovered recently, they got the square footage and price per square foot wrong (in their favor). I discovered this at about a month after the deal closed. I just mentioned it to the seller's agent and he tells me I am wrong. I said "but I measured". He said "oh, they don't count INDOOR living space, it's all measured outside the building counting a lot more square footage.
The seller and seller's realtor said they would shampoo the carpets. I said "great". I find out no shampooing was done and nobody admitted the truth. I hated being lied to.
When I was thinking over my loan choices and being pushed to SIGN, my realtor called "you are not shopping around with other loan agents are you"? I said no but I was very very annoyed at this question. So what if I was? What was it to her? It made me think I should have shopped around more. Never ever will I use the same loan agent again. Why did my realtor say this? Why didn't she encourage me to shop around if I wanted to?
One little thing...I was recieving the old owner's mail and it was piling up. The seller's agent said "I'll come by and pick it up". A week goes by no pick up. I finally bring it in and handle it myself. He made so much, couldn't he have come thru with this little task?
This experience shocked me. I will be better educated next time on how to empower myself whether it's finding my own lender/appraiser whatever. Also, maybe use a discount service to save big bucks. Why should I be pressured?
I like to make Kool-aid or Flav-or-aid (10 cents for a packet that makes 8 cups!) and only use about half the sugar the manufacturer suggests. Sometimes I use agave nectar, honey or brown sugar but that ups the cost considerably.
How can you write off business expenses if you technically have a business, but not an official license. If I'm a blog writer and have my own website where I am making money (it might not be a lot), what can I or can't I write off? Hosting sites I assume I can. If it's a movie blog, can I write off movie tickets that I review? Do I have to be making money from the blog to do so? Thanks a million!
I do for some things, but not save pennies. When it comes to buying groceries, I avoid Ralphs and go with Trader Joe's because I know it's cheaper, better quality, and more creative there. If I want to buy sweats I'll go to Ross or Walmart. For Electronics I skip Best Buy and go to Fry's because they offer the same items (and more) for a better price. But when it comes to buying toothbrushes or mouthwash, wherever I'm near I'll get it. The 30cents save I might get isn't worth the time, effort, or planning.
I shared my US Airlines miles with my colleague last year. hey charged $30 fee for doing it. Actually if transfer had been free it would have become a big industry for people tyring to get cheap tickets.
Already majority of the airlines are barely surviving.
Yes, I always comparison shop. When my husband and I met, he thought I was crazy and wasting time, but he saw the light when I bought our school books for half the price online.
I live in Richmond BC, Canada and you can find Masa flour at any local grocery store in the flour section. Check out Safeway - that's where I found mine.

Where are the free splash parks at?
TIMESHARE!!!
Those who do not are either foolish, or just plain crazy. I have most general prices memorized and for those I don't I will compare before buying.

Really cool, do you know if anything like this exists in Australia? And what website to use? I've been searching but no luck...

Our cheapish romantic thing to do is take a really nice bottle of champangne to the beach and order a pizza and watch the sun set.

I do comparison shop, however I won't go completely out of my way when it comes to groceries. Big ticket items- TVs, etc.- full blown investigation!
I liked wise bread on facebook! Thanks for the giveaway!
