I'd really like to learn more about the Roth 401(k) to IRA conversion. I've heard conflicting information on how the money is taxed and I'm waiting to roll our money until I can get a definitive answer.
These methods do not work IF there is a creased area within it the dented area or around its perimeter. The dent has to be a smooth, rounded depression with NO creases in the sheetmetal.

My mom has great water.... she bought an anderson water softner system from a friend at church to help them out. She has had it for 10 years. We have had to spend some time with mom because her husband died this year. Being there we have noticed that her counters, dishes, plasticwear etc. in the kitchen all has a yellow film on it. She has no dishwasher. What would be causing this?
A variation of the cash gift is to put it into a Education fund. When my friend had her baby girl I insisted she set up a account (RESP - Registered Education Savings Plan in Canada) anyway her little girl got cash (from me and others) and into the account it went. Now for birthdays and Christmas that's all I do - I feel better know the money is going somewhere useful, and momma can rest at night knowing her child has a college fund.
I wish I knew more about how to do taxes, so I could do my own (my accountant has a slick tool and my return usually consumes a small tree's worth of paper; pretty complex return, but nothing I couldn't figure out).
I wish I knew why people price each other out of the market and why we don't realize that what's driving up costs of living is us (they can only price something at what people are willing to pay for it).
I wish I better understood the drivers of inflation and why it doesn't seem to bother anyone as much as it bothers me (unquestioned erosion of your purchasing power of roughly 3%/year)
I wish I knew why corporations feel it is acceptable to retain so much in profits, or allocate so much of it to upper management, rather than share more of it with the employees who trade their precious hours toiling for table scraps.
I wish I knew why it is acceptable for a mutual fund/hedge fund manager who doesn't beat the market to make millions in bonuses, or anything at all.
I wish I knew why federal politicians feel they deserve such high salaries when they deliver no meaningful legislation and are only successful at securing my child's ever-higher debt/tax burden.
Glad you asked! When articles talk about how much $ you'll have when you retire, they talk about your savings, with an earnings of 8% or more. How are people gettting such a big return? I assume it's stocks, but I have a hard time believing it. My $ is earning peanuts in laddered CDs. I'm missing something! Along with this contest, can someone answer? Thanks!

Our brother just passed a few days ago it was unexpected because he was a 20 year old healthy boy with no previous illness so it has been hard and we are trying to get money for his funeral. My brothers hair is (since we have never done this before) 26 inches the top of his head and the bottom reaches out to 20 inches it is brown curly wavy hair NEVER been treated with dyes or anything not a smoker or drinker. I've got a cleft pallet, misshaped nose,upper lip scar and now my face is wrinkling up so bad I look 90 years old. I'm only 54. I lost my home,, my job,, now I hide in an apt. never go out, don't talk to anyone.I can't take it much more. I was a bright and happy building engineer and loved being around people in the hospitality industry working at hotels. Why do people try DIY surgery.. ? its because people like me and others see it as our last hope. The physical defect and emotional distress becomes an unending circle of self doubt and a complete loss of self esteem. Its painful,, its a misery.. no one can help and we don't have the resources to get corrective surgery. Personally I'm scared to try DIY, Emotionally,, I would try anything to get my well being back. I'm glad to see that there are new alternatives being considered for people who need these types or short-term loans. I just wish that these same people could get out of the cycle that leads to needing these loans in the first place.
Our daughter is a senior this year. We saved with a 529 and a trust in our daughter's name. The trust was a bad idea because it hurt her eligibilillty for need based financial aid. Fortunately, she got a $10K Scholarship/year that helped with costs. She also took out a small loan. Finally, we paid some of the bills out of current income. It's a difficult issue but I think your assumption that costs will continue to rise is apt.
I don't understand why people are willing to accept that a currency has value when it isn't backed by anything. "Because I said so" has never had much meaning to me, and I don't get why it means anything more just because government says it.

My parents also have an animatronic Santa and Mrs. Claus, and when they move, their arms make noises that sound very much like a fart. My dad stubbornly puts them up every year and then urges us not to laugh at the moving arm farts. Nobody has ever succeeded in keeping a straight face.
It's not quite as bad as that hilariously terrifying animatronic Santa, but I considered it a big win a couple of years ago when my mother announced she was getting rid of the first-grader-sized Mr. and Mrs. Claus that would hang out on the landing of the stairs every December. Now my parents still put up decorations, but they've pared it down, with more focus on the sentimental.

When you have a mortgage you do not "own" your home. If things turn for the worst the bank can take your house, no matter how long you paid your mortgage payment. So for example, say you have been consistent on your mortgage payments for the last twenty plus years and all the sudden you are laid off from work with no income for six months leading to inability to pay your mortgage, the bank will take your house away without guilt and will not refund you for all the interest/principle you put into it. Basically the bank has the upper hand, and is blind to human compassion. The bank operates with a psychopathic like personality with no consequence to humanity. Owning your home is taking the carrot off the "banker" string and actually eating it for once!!!
If you can afford to buy your own home in cash, then do it!!! Don't forget to live inside your means. One must factor in taxes, insurance, utilities, and home owner association fees etc. Owning your own home doesn't mean you don't have "home" expenses to consider.
I am a grad student (read "low income tax bracket"). I don't have a lot of money (yet), but I know there are advantages to putting money into a ROTH IRA. I can't decide whether or not I should put money into a ROTH IRA now (before I get a job and jump into a much higher income tax bracket) or just play catch up. I need advice. :)
