I see both sides to this coin. Couponing does take a lot of time and a willingness to search and get organized. But you have to want it.
I am a HUGE couponer (and I use a lot of rebates too), but I LOVE doing it. It's like a hobby. Just this past week I got over $200 worth of merchandise from Walgreens, Rite Aid, and CVS for less than $10. And stuff I use: air freshners, glass and all purpose cleaner, diapers, 16 Gatorades, 13 bottles of water, 2 boxes of crackers, wrapping paper, cards, allergy medicine, and some other things that I can't think of off the top of my head right now.
In fact, a month ago Kroger actually GAVE me $2.74 our of the cash register because I had so many coupons.
You can click on my name and find pictures of all kinds of things that I have gotten for literally pennies.
There is a huge family of blogs out there that focus on this kind of stuff, so go check it out, you might become addicted too :)
Getting back to your "base" level or point is where many of us need to visit. Sometimes we chose to go back there & sometimes we are forced there, it's where we all need to go, so that we can recalibrate.
quote from the post by the environmental policeman that started all this "10 minute idling" discussion:
"Idling uses up a not insignificant amount of fuel and releases tons of CO2 every year. Don't do it."
Hey, genius. The primary emission of an automobile is WATER VAPOR - which also happens to be the primary ingredient in the atmosphere. Oh, and CO2 is the chemical sign for carbon DIOXIDE, whereas the dangerous carbon-based gas produced by an automobile is carbon MONOXIDE.
Tomorrow, I'm gonna let my car idle an extra five minutes just for you and your "climate change" buddies....
You inspired me. I haven't had a sourdough starter for years, since I forgot to put mine back in the fridge before I went away for the weekend. It was a very healthy starter and ran rampant all over my kitchen counter and down onto the floor. It was lost in the cleanup, and I was strongly encouraged not to start a new one. =D But now there is a new, happy, bubbly Herman in my kitchen, almost ready to go into the fridge. Thanks for reminding me.
We have had our converter boxes installed for 1 week now. We have satellite but they do not provide our local channels so we have an antenna with a booster. We get more channels now with the converter box. Tonight there was a football game on CBS but on every converter box it said weak signal. We unhooked the converter box & used our antenna and got a crystal clear picture. How can this be? This CBS channel has a sister channel that transimits off the same tower and the sister channel comes in fine with the converter box. Why would the channel work with the antenna & for 1 week with the converter box & then stop working?
Where are you people from that say it is unnecessary to let your car idle for ten minutes? On Thursday and Friday we had overnight temperatures here of -29 without the windchill. I have been an automechanic for the last 17 years and trust me, you don't want to just jump in your car, start it up, and go when it is that cold. Try this - stick a rubberband in your freezer tonight, and then in the morning try to stretch it out and you'll see how many pieces it shatters into. Now think about all of the RUBBER belts in your car, essentially giant rubberbands. Think about your serpentine belt, which goes around every major component under your hood, including that engine which is going at anywhere from 2000 - 4500 rounds per minute depending on the engine. You would not believe how many people get towed in this time of year because their belts snap due to not being warmed up.
I love the idea of taping over new monthly grids on an old calendar! And I'll keep my eyes open for 1998, 1987 (my graduation year!), 1981, 1970 to reuse an old calendar for this year.
My mother-in-law has a nifty perpetual calendar to mark recurring dates. Maybe I could pair my own print-out (I mean, once I type up a list of birthdays and anniversaries) with a favorite picture to create my own calendar.
You should be running synthetic oil and transmission fluid anyway (and in your transfer case and differentials if applicable too) if you're REALLY serious about saving money -> your vehicle's mechanicals will last longer. Yes, it is fact. Those that don't usually have something to sell you or suffered part failure due to poor part design in the first place. I have 3 vehicle (all over 300,000). My newest is 18 years old (vw diesel). No, you should not be letting your cars idle to warm up. Drive prudently and it will warm up nicely. Don't try to merge on a freeway with a cold engine.
Also, spare me the diatribe on young kids and cold cars. Unless they are chronic bronchial asthmatics, the only one suffering is the hypochondriac parent.
I've been playing WoW for a little over two years. It's what I do for fun. My husband's fun is playing music, and together we watch DVDs from Netflix or free Internet TV.
So, with that set, we've cut way back on entertainment expenses in our lives.
It's well worth the subscription money for me -- I get a Mom's night off, I hang with family that live far away, and I don't spend money on new computer games or new computers to keep up with the games or other entertainment.
We still socialize, we still have date night, church activities, and all of this with a 8-month old.
On the flip side, those WoW gurus out there will probably laugh when I say my highest character after 2+ years is level 51. :)
In other words, I play on Tuesday nights (Mom's night off) and sometimes either Sunday afternoons or Friday evenings.
Oh, and from my first-hand experience with WoW, the people I interact with in WoW are typically grandmothers, grandfathers, and 30-somethings. I've never run into addictive behavior where people would skip meals and other stuff.
Although when I was single, I did try to eat spaghetti and play WoW at the same time, but I'm a girl who really likes her food. And, no, it didn't work all that well!
Knowing how people are with anything entertaining, I'm sure some people are addicted to WoW, just like some are addicted to TV, gambling, etc.
I believe games, like drinking, eating, shopping, etc. etc., are great if done moderately. I would not say it is a great way to save money since you cannot really learn anything new from just about all the games out there and thus they do nothing for you in terms of social or professional life (sorry Xin Lu, I love your posts). I am speaking as a person who was playing games more than 7 hours a day on average and paid dearly for it. People who are just looking for ways to save money would have better bets if they would just head to a local library and borrow some books. If games are your thing then it is great and all. However I've seen many around me who rather live in the virtual world than face their realities (I used to be one) so I guess it is yet another case of self-control.
Great idea, thanks for posting. I have a tip, though, on displaying your content: PLEASE don't post screenshots of tabular data that looks like links. The two images from the Time & Date website look like regular tables, and one would expect the dates to be clickable. Instead, we have to frustratingly find out they're just screen shots. I would suggest eliminating the images altogether or replacing them with actual tabular data.
As a matter of fact, the US is a haven for European money launderers.
The USA are the only country where it is possible to incorporate a shell corporation (Delaware, Nevada) without the identity of the owner being registered.

Here's something you can try to see for your own eyes that Horizon Organic is not as corrupt as this guy wants you to believe. Go and buy some regular eggs, the kind you usually get. At the same time get a pack of Horizon Organic eggs. Crack one of each into a stainless steel bowl and you will see that the difference is clear, literally. The whites of the conventional egg appear cloudy next to the transparent whites of the Horizon Organic egg. In addition the yolks of the Horizon Organic eggs are larger and a more golden yellow. Cook them up and do a taste test, that will seal the deal.
I also think that the milk tastes better, more like fresh farm milk. Of course you can't see the difference in milk like you can in eggs.
I dare Paul Michael to try this test. I also dare him to go to the Horizon Organic dairies and take pictures of these horrible places if he wants us to believe that they are so bad. I want evidence, not a load of cow manure!
Everyone please remember, just because you read it on some guys blog doesn't make it true. Do your own research and look for *at least* one source that isn't on the internet.
Here is a good idea...if they can get so many people for 10% why not just have 10% off all the time. I went today to the CC in Huntington Beach...line must have been about 60 people. Do people really get that excited for 10% off? I mean I can see if it was 50-60% off, but just a little bit off and they probably had more sales today than they have any other Saturday of the year.
How about...10% off Saturdays at CC. Stupid people will pay for anything if they think they are getting a deal. Just look at Kohls...everything is always 60% off...I've never see anyone pay retail at Kohls.
Ah... I would wait - 10% off a laptop that is already overpriced... I'm happy to let the amateurs that think they're getting a great deal fight over those --
Call me in a couple of months, when they really start to slash prices - sure what's left might not be the conventional items that everyone goes ga-ga over, laptops... games... tvs... etc -- but I'm willing to bet they'll have some things that would be very useful, but you might not have originally bought due to the price.
No matter that I live far away from my sisters I still feel as if they are just right around the corner anytime that I need them. We've shared our ups and downs, problems and joys. Of course our journeys through life are parallel to one another. I've always felt that my sisters will be the people in my life for my whole life. Parents may pass away, kids grow up and leave home, husbands may pass away or grow apart and part ways. Siblings are forever, cherish them always and they will cherish you in return.
I've never been rich financially. I've read lots of books and blogs about getting rich, keeping it, and losing it all. I don't think I'll ever be rich but hope to be comfortable enough to not worry over money when I'm old and no longer want or am unable to work. That is what being financially rich means to me. I think that we all have our own vision deep within our heart of hearts that tells us what it is we need to achieve in order to reach that peaceful place where we no longer feel the need to worry over money issues.
I've never been particularly a spiritually rich person. My belief is that God exists, but I also believe that the teachings that God created the universe for us and us alone are a bit skewed. I think that the universe is just too vast and to think that we are the only occupants is something that I don't agree with. So, I have faith in that which cannot be seen and I have a belief that one day we will find that we are not alone in our vast universe.
Our store in PA had the same discounts. Almost everything was at 10% off. Amazon's regular prices are better. Know what things cost! At least I didn't see anything marked up from regular prices like the liquidators did at CompUSA and OfficeMax.
I checked out the laptop inventory yesterday right after the closing announcement to see if there was anything I wanted. There were 100 or so people waiting for the store to open this morning and the parking lot was full all day. When I went in this evening ( after things had settled down ) most of the laptops were gone. I don't know if they pulled them or they flew out of there. 10% discount is less of a discount than most of CC's sales. There were around 20 people in line at the checkouts when I left. I feel bad for the workers, they lose their jobs and the next day they have to deal with the crowds.
I have closed 3 deals with Marty and have always found him to be polite, to the point and fairly quick.
He is honest on deals he cant do and has even referred me to other lenders who could do files he couldn't.
I think your experience is not typical. I was referred to him by a friend who swears by him as well as their whole office.

I tried making a small batch using brown sugar I put the mix in a Carboy with a fermentaion lock and it bubble like crazy for 6 days, on the 7th day it stopped but the solution was still cloudy and smells like a bad beer with lots of carbonation bubbles. I was told that when the fermentation process was close to finishing the solution would become clear and the bubbling would stop. Did I do something wrong?

Vinegar freezes faster than water: how can it effectively de-ice a windshield, or prevent ice from forming?
So, you drive your car with ice on the windshield? Kinda hard to see isn't it?

Warm water might be OK if your windshield is in good shape. It will likely crack at any weak points, such as stone chips or scratches.
This sounds like pure guess work to me no psychic ability necessary.

What anything in your ridiculous post has to do with Barack Obama, I fail to see.
He was a Senator, and last time I checked, they don't really run cities.
