One of the recipies on the hillbilly housewife page is for peanutbutter noodles of some sort. Everything else is good and/or eatable. The noodles however were *so* bad that even during our crunch time we washed the peanut butter off and just had butter and noodles.
It's the only dish my wife ever made which I genuinely wouldn't ever try again.
I cannot tell you how much blogging I have recently seen about rising gas prices. It is a huge deal that affects us significantly and you can see by the blogging traffic that is taking place. I believe that cutting back on your costs usually means taking out unnecessary purchases. Many people don't understand what unnecessary purchases is. You need to cut back on how much you go out to eat, cable costs, driving costs. Any thing to cut back your expenses can help you greatly.
I liked the emergency meal plan but stopped when I got to the shopping list - no way could I buy all that for $45 where I live in New York city! That would be at least $100 here, if not more. Anytime I stop in for a few odds and ends at the grocery store the bill is always $30+
I'll try some of those recipes though! Beans are indeed cheap and good, especially when you buy dried rather than canned.

We haven't owned a car in years, but this past weekend we borrowed a friend's for a quick weekend trip. The gas for the weekend ended up costing well over 100 euros (ie, $160+++). It was quite the eye-opener to where gas prices are these days! Yes, they're much higher here in Europe, but still I never expected to pay so much for a short trip. It makes me very happy that we have the option to take trains most of the time here, something that I know doesn't come into play for most of America. Here's hoping for improved public transport!
Bob B:
I totally agree with you on this one, and I couldnt have said it better. I would pay the $3-500 gladly so that I can live normally and comfortably.
That being said: These are some good tips, I dont turn my air on until it is close to 90 anyway- so some of these tips are helpful for the more mild days.
Everything the government touches turns to Garbage. Everything. It's the reverse Midas touch.
Anyone disagree? And one of the main premises the U.S. was create on was a general distrust of government.
100 years ago, people didn't even think about the Federal government unless it was about the Post Office. Today, government, and thinking about government, is so interwoven in daily life, it's impossible to get away from it.
We just made the switch over the weekend and I was feeling so guilty about it! I am so glad I found this article. You all helped me so much (excluding the few with their snide remarks). We went from using Enfamil Gentlease to Target Brand that is comparable. It is about $12 cheaper. Our little girl is 6 months now. . . . . just wish I had come around to store brand sooner! It is going to save us over $50 a month now!
I believe the HERO emergency fuel service (and the CHP service mentioned by Xin Lu) is a great public service to offer. I just think those that benefit from it ought to have to fund it, so others who do not get a direct benefit don't have to supplement its costs through taxation.
If you go into a store and the sale is technically over or hasn't started yet, but the items are marked with the sale price, they still have to give you the item at the marked sale price. This is the LAW! I'm a former auditor for a major department store and it was one of the things we dinged store managers on.
So, next time the sale tag says 40% off and the clerk says, "Sorry, that sale ended yesterday", tell them by law they have to give you the price. If the clerk doesn't respond ask for the manger.
If you really want a high demand item and you know it is going on sale, maybe a Memorial Day sale, etc., stop in the store an hour before closing the day before the sale is supposed to start and see if they have already marked the items on the floor. Many stores have already marked items, as this way they don't need to have anyone work extra hours.
They have to give you the marked price no matter when the sale starts or ends.
I have the Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2 game, and I'm pretty good at it... Or at least I was. I'm pretty careless when it comes to CD's... I won't lie. But I promised myself that I would keep this game in mint condition (considering it has been my favourite video game for a long while.) I left it out one time, and it got oddly replaced. I came across it a few days ago, and it was COVERED in little scratches. I put it in my PS2, and the game played, but some songs wouldn't load, or right in the middle of a song, the music would completely stop, or start over, which made it hard to focous. I googled for remedies to remove scratches, and.... here are my dissapointing results;;
Toothpaste; This didn't work at all. And I tried it at least four or five times...
Boiling; Didn't work. I did it three times.
Peanut Oil; All this did was make my disc cloudy... I only did this once. I didn't want to risk it.
Hair Gel; Same as above.
I didn't have a banana at hand... and personally... I don't know where to get half of these polishes and removers at.
Maybe I did this all wrong? I'm unsure. All I know is that I miss my game. ;_;
Interesting point of view. Most of us go crazy when it comes to get those saving announced here or there but rarely analyze on detail what is backstage.
In Bernsteins book he states that in powdered form, Splenda is principally a mixture of sugars to provide bulk and should be avoided. "If you read the Nutrition Facts label on granulated Splenda, for example, it lists, as such labels must, ingredients in order from most to least: dextrose (glucose), maltodextrin (a mixture of sugars), and finally sucralose."
He writes that Splenda is OK in tablet form "Splenda tablets are available now in some parts of the United States, overseas and on the Internet. They are benign in spite of containing minute amounts of lactose. In powdered form, Splenda is principally a mixture of sugars to provide bulk and should be avoided."
My coworker says that the same service is available on highway 101 in Northern California. She ran out of gas by accident one day and the Highway Patrol came and gave her a gallon. I've never been that lucky though. No CHP officer stopped for me when my tires got slashed by some road debris.
For me to wait on the side of the road for it. An hour of my time is way more valuable than 8 bucks, especially when it's swindled from fellow taxpayers who are paying for their own gas no matter how much it hurts. And plus I don't think they even do that where I live. That really is pathetic!
As a writer with a limited income, this post is great, especially since we've just been hit in Spain with a truckers strike and the stores might not be getting deliveries this week...
What charity ride was it? The wife and I do our local MS150 every year and usually 3 or 4 other charity rides. I did a 50 miler just last week for an area Boys & Girls club. Anyhow, congrats on finishing & great post!

In my state, if the rental property is also your primary residence, you are allowed to turn down someone for instance a section 8 applicant.
If your property is solely income property and you(as the landlord) don't live there then yes that is discrimination.
You have to know the laws on rental properties or you can get yourself into trouble quickly.
Haggeling is something that I have never done, but difinitely will try in the future. After all it's only YOUR money.
What a good, well-written article. Very nice. And congratulations on your accomplishment.
Tax Credits for homebuyers? I think I'll punt this one off to Gordon Brown. We could do with some help like this in the UK!

Yeah well I dropped a nickel in the rain in Michgan once... damn U.S.A.

I am not sure what you are drinking, but the best idea might be to test your BG levels afterwards. See this page:
