No. Though I do put in decent effort. If it's something I don't need now, I'll look or wait for a sale. If it's something that I do need (or just really want) now, then my income isn't so stretched that I have to go hungry if I do decide to buy.

Well he is the "make it automatic" author so of course he's going to say that's the way to succeed :). The thing I like about Bach is that he just seems nice in how he goes about his business of leading you through to zero debt. If you don't need the tough love of Dave Ramsey, then Bach is a great choice, in my opinion.
If you've read his other books, did you garner anything new from this version? I have read a couple of his others, but they are mostly just rewritten versions of each other. Nothing really new. That's personally been my only issue with Mr. Bach.
What a funny study! But I can see the validity - you see I grew up as a Z - and I was very tall when I was young [alas that ended after puberty] so I was often at the back of the line no matter what.

I do have a little of that feeling and I loathe waiting in lines - my husband doesn't mind it nearly so much and never has that must get it unless it runs out feeling . . . I've worked at mine tremendously as a long time frugalite but it was interesting to think of a possible contributing factor to that feeling!
If anything, this post has generated some conversation on expectations on both sides and some things buyers should research themselves instead of asking of their realtor. Lesson learned. We figured out offline that these and other statements were not accurate; many buyers find out after the fact and there's bad blood later on. Best if a realtor says, "I don't know" or "here's how you can find out" rather than give an inaccurate estimate on something.
As far as kickbacks, that wasn't alleged here, I'll never know what sort of partnership or business relationship they have. In the end, it wouldn't have been in our best financial interest, so buyers should get multiple quotes IMO rather than blindly using the suggested mortgage option.
I really try to buy everything on sale and really do my research on the internet before I buy. They only exception I have is food, my husband and I eat mostly organic food. Some organic food is on sale sometimes, but very rarely. We just make sure we budget enough for groceries, even if that means cutting back on other things like eating out. What we put in our bodies has become really important to us and have really felt better too!

At that time, this realtor (a husband of my wife's co-worker) made a proposal - hey, I'll represent you at closing and for your next purchase and you don't have to pay me for your sale since I'll get a commission on the buying end. It was a win-win he proposed. At that time, a lot of people were going without realtors trying to save buck since home prices were so high (my buyer didn't have a realtor for instance). The realtor only showed us 3 houses, showed up at inspection and closing and collected a 3% commission. Let's say for sake of argument he spent 20 hours on this deal (generous) and the agency took 1 %. He then got around 9K for 20 hours of work. That's a few hundred bucks an hour. Not too shabby and far from free.
The 2% listing was for this more recent deal, which frankly is the going rate for many sales anyway since the old 3/3% rule is dead. Houses aren't selling, realtors are hungry and sellers are taking a bath. Getting 2% on our sale and then 3% to the new construction builder would have been a pretty nice take - again, far from free.
As far as "stealing" a pool? That's a very unique way of looking at it, no? If the real estate market does not reward people who put in pools with a premium, should buyers pay more than the going price? If a house is worth 500K, they put in a pool and it's still worth 500K later because many buyers just don't want pools, why would I pay more than the market rate? I'm not sure how that would be considered stealing.
It really depends on what I'm shopping for. For food, etc I look for sales, but I buy mostly generic so many times sales prices aren't the lowest.
When it come to clothing, shoes, home furnishing etc, I shop sales. I honeslty can't remember the last time I paid full price for a piece of clothing or a pair of shoes!
I certainly _prefer_ to buy on sale (with a coupon, using a rewards credit card), but rigidity leads to disaster. There's a time and a place for full price.

My firstborn mulls things over, my second/middle child leaps before looking--and they both have the same last (T) name. I became an extravagant and impulsive buyer once I had my own income, as a result of growing up in a very frugal, single-parent household (H last name). Not only that, I only remember a few instances in school where were were lined up alphabetically, and in my children's school, they line up alphabetically by first name--and only in kindergarten.
I can see this affecting a certain segment of the population but I think the scope of the experiments was too narrow to prove anything.

I will take up a deal though if it's something I'm in the market for anyway - actually I generally will hold out for a deal and try to get the most for my money.

The images of that film haunt me and have given me the push to find out if the products I thought of as safe and humane are actually that. My son has been drinking Horizon milk since he first started drinking milk. Organic milk is all he gets...and Horizon has always been my preferred brand.
I wish I knew who to believe in this blog/commentary. Too many conflicting opinions. How can I find out more information that is CERTAIN to be accurate?
Their milk certainly tastes better. My gut tells me we've made a good decision to purchase their products....but I'd really rather be sure. Please feel free to add any input! Thanks so much!

I avoid ever using an ATM card with my savings account. I don't want to pay the fees and the bank won't refund the fees. For me, all of the movement of cash is done by transfers to/from my local checking account.
Additionally, make sure that the online savings account isn't just offering a "teaser" interest rate for the first 3 or 6 months. I've seen quite a few try this tactic in the past.
I always buy on sale, if it ever goes on sale. And I track prices of things I want by creating a link with the item's current price in the name of the link, so I know when the price has changed. Amazon helps with price tracking, by telling you when the prices in your cart have changed, so I always keep quite a few things in my cart:)
If only public utilities would have sales, I'd do my cooking & laundry in batches, only during the sales.
Awesome! I also suffer from ADHD and find it difficult to stay on task. The minute I get bored I'm off on another project, never really completing the first one. As a manager its good for me because I can then delagate it off to someone else to finish. Not a great quality to bring up in an interview though.
I would keep a local bank account thats free on top of having the high interest online account. This gives you the option to automatically route funds from your online account and pick it up locally if its going to be more than the ATM daily max.
