But to me - they push buying/shopping to a daily event. I'm for getting the best deal on things I need but trying to avoid being caught up in "browsing" for extras.
So my wife and I have a "to do or purchase" list that includes big purchases, normal budget items, things we'd like to get our 22-month old, etc. If a groupon or LS deal comes in that matches to that list - we'll consider it. It's like making a list before you go grocery shopping. A bunch of others have posted similar, we just use the physical list.
Which "bumper" did you get that prevents you from charging your iPhone 4? My wife and I both have iPhone 4, so do a lot of our friends and family. We all have different cases and "bumpers" and have no problem connecting the iPhone cable with the bumper in place.
Avoid any mystery shop that invoives YOU spending money up front. "Working" means YOU get paid. When you put a dinner on your credit card bill, that means you have TWO things to chase down: Payment from the shopping "employer" and reimbursement for the purchase.
If you want a pizza and are willing to spend $15 for it, cool. If you think someone is going to pay for the pizza AND give you money to buy it, you're bordering on naive or nuts.
"Mystery/secret" shopping IS a legitimate business, UNLESS it involves ANY up-front out-of-pocket expense on your part.
I don't use groupon. I do, however, use mamapedia. I am very careful about how I spend my money and wait and wait and wait until a deal that I actually want pops up. I can see how some people might get sucked up into the deal and buy things they don't really need. It can be hard to pass up some of those "Pay only $8 for _____ worth $25!!!" deals.
I get the daily email form Groupon and a few other social networking sites. I have the opposite problem of most people. I tend to take advantage of too few of these offers and as a result really miss out on some good deals. You do have to use a bit of discipline but I love them!!!
I had heard of Groupon but was leery of it until a friend recommended one of their deals. So I used Groupon once and will again if it has offers I'm interested in.
I start out with fresh cup of coffee....and then water once I am done working out. Research shows that MODERATE consumption of coffee helps with your work out routine and also helps with prevention of memory problems.
Believe me when I say that I was fired from COMCAST because I was always tellin the truth to customers, I kid you not. I am the type of the person that feels for people and let me tell you some things that I found out with Comcast. First of all, their billing system is messed up like totally. They increase charges because there are some "internal" products that they have to pay for and since they dont have the money, who do they go after? You guessed it
Majority of Comcast drivers are so lethargic that when they are suppose to PROVIDE service people, they dont and how do I know this? They go out and sit in their cars, sending messages to the center that the customers are not available when the drivers NEVER knocked on the door in the first place.
When customers do call in, we are told to tell the customers upfront that they will be getting "excellent" deals BUT we shouldnt tell them that after 6 months, the deal will be cancelled and normal charges will increased!
I mean dont get me wrong, some customers were so obdurate but after being there for months, I understood why and when I was getting cable, Comcast was the last provider on my mind.
I couldn't agree more! I especially like the benefits to community and neighborhood life that you highlighted in this piece. Our stuff can become a substitute for our personal relationships - and it's time to reverse that trend.
Sounds pretty bogus to me. A sample size of 51 hardly makes a legitimate study. I feel like if you pick other foods than M&M and cheese cubes, the results will be different. In fact, I imagined a lot of cheeseburgers just now, and it's definitely making me want one...
I also don't think the same principle will stop me from overspending, either. On the other hand, picturing myself becoming rich deters me from buying necessary things. It probably just differs from person to person.
Yes! I really like Groupon. I have used it for things like hotel rooms, spa services and exercise classes. I try to be discerning and to keep in mind that they almost never have things I "need", just things I want.
Groupons are a great way to try new activities, food, venues, etc. for a fraction of the cost! I've purchased/used a handful already, including a wine tasting in Sonoma, a kayaking trip in Santa Cruz, a hiking yoga excursion and a boot camp subscription.
I do use groupon and several other sites and I think if you only buy for things you use they are great, but I can see that a lot of people could spend a ton on stuff they don't really want or need just because they think it is a good deal.
I love, love, love Groupon -- almost as much as I love Wise Bread! Eversave is another favorite.
I subscribe to Groupon and LivingSocial.

I do use Groupon! I look forward everyday to receiving the emails.

This might be a little off topic, but does anyone know if the settings genius really works?

It's supposed to keep your radio settings when you change your battery. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with it?

All in all, I say they are soooo messed up.
Wish I'd known about that cockroach bit back when I was an apt. dweller. ;)
In my garden I use crushed eggshells to keep slugs and snails away. It seems to work.
I have cirrhosis and homeopathics got rid of 30 pounds of water weight when nothing else would.

I have purchased several Groupons. If you do your research, they're a wonderful way to get discounts off on good restaurants! :)
no, I have never used it.
I use it, and I love it!!
I love Groupon. I especially love the local yoga groupon deals that appear every once in a while. I am a huge sucker for those :)

Thanks a lot for the idea. I really need to change my life so bad.
It feels like everything in it white and black. I hope your idea works with me.

I use Groupon a lot. Get great deals on restaurants to try out and more. Glad my nephew turned me on to it!
