Yes! Groupon & Living Social - and we've been very happy with everything so far. As a matter of fact, my Valentine's Day present was a Living Social spa day.
I've never used Groupon or any similar sites. This may be because my spending income is practically nonexistent at the moment. When it does go up, I'll probably start checking it out, but only to buy things I've wanted to try anyway.
My desk is an old door ($10 from Habitat) on two painted filing cabinets ($10 at a yard sale); I print less; use CFL's; and re-use as much as possible (old jars to hold pens, old boxes to house stationery...). I also find tons of super cool stuff at yard sales - especially kid stuff - why pay more?!
I love Groupon, LivingSocial, and Mamapedia. We are going to Chicago for the weekend; I was able to find a couple deals for local restaurants (made sure they didn't have restrictions on when they can be used) and a deal on admission to the Art Institute (2 for 1). I try not to buy things I don't need or won't use.
It's costly! I noticed one small mistake in your calculation...
"Multiply .04% by 30 days per month. .04% x 30 = 1.2, or .012%" should read
.04% x 30 = 1.2% (not 0.12$ which would be about $3 out of those $3000)
A friend of mine shared his interesting experience. He had a substantial credit card debt from Chase. He had several late payments and one or two missed when Chase send him a letter than his interest is increasing to a point where he couldn't afford his monthly payments. So he called them, got a manager on the phone and declared that they are forcing him into bankruptcy and he's not going to pay a single penny on his debt. After some negotiation he got them to remove all his penalties and interest if he repaid his full remaining principal amount. That's the way to do it =D
P.S. He tried the same with the other two banks he owns money but they agreed to nothing. I guess it doesn't work if you've been a good payer before you call them.
My son just did his taxes for the first time (with my limited assistance). I had done it for him in the past as part of doing all of our taxes (fed, state, local) with a program like TaxAct, but now that he's out of college, it's time for him to get some of these tasks under his belt as he heads out into the world. :) He's still at the 1040-EZ phase, so it was quite simple.
I am starting to use Groupon more. When I was in Chicago the deals rarely were attractive because I lived in the suburbs. Now that I moved to a smaller city, the deals are much more relevant for both Groupon and Living Social. I only buy what I may use anyway, such as discounts to restaurants, retailers (Barnes & Noble, Amazon), and personal care for my wife.
I actually had the good fortune to find them on Overstock. They were still more than I'd like to pay, but they've been worth it. Now I regret not buying them in other colors!
I subscribe to a few of the deal-a-day websites/emails. The only ones I have used have been the ones which offer 50% off gift cards/codes to chain stores or Amazon. I've gotten small denomination gift cards for Target, Chick-fil-a and CVS so far. They haven't been huge money savers, but those are stores that I shop at anyway, so I've enjoyed getting the deals.
I've only bought Groupons for restaurants I have wanted to try. The nearest big city for me is a 45 minute drive away which impedes the number of deals that I'll go for.
I've had just one, really wonderful, experience using Groupon.
Everything went exactly as expected, but even better was that when I used the offer, I could not believe how helpful the merchant was and how quickly I received my order (it was an online offer).
I've also had one experience with Living Social -- it was the Amazon offer. I can't begin to express how very disappointed I was. While I know some claim they got the offer, I did not. I ended up cancelling after 5 days of "pending" because I was getting such bad customer service responses and was totally uncomfortable having shared my credit card information. I've since been round and round with their customer advocates, but bottom line is that I will not ever use Living Social again.A
I have never used Groupon before
i haven't used groupon yet. i've heard good things about it though
Yes! $50 worth of American Apparel clothing for $25 was my favorite.

Yes - I love GROUPON! They have great deals!

You are welcome! :)
I haven't actually used Groupon yet, but I have signed up for their emails.

I have used Groupon occasionally, as well as other similar sites like Mamapedia, WeBuy, and Living Social.
Yup- once for the Amazon deal, and once for a local bike shop tune-up.

I bought 2 or 3 things from them, but have yet to actually redeem the coupons, so I should probably stop.
I signed up for it about a month ago but have not actually used a Groupon yet.

no! I find it only tempts me to buy things I don't really need..the ultimate plea to impulse spenders everywhere!
I am jealous of your red Frye boots. Seriously, words can not describe how badly I would like a pair.
I often find things at Forever 21 that I've seen for four or five times the price on ModCloth!
Thanks! I always THINK I want to be a roller derby girl, and then I go to a match and see a fist fight break out, and I remember that I am a wuss.
