This is really great advice! I wrote a similar blog on it recently, which you can check out at thisisby.us under my userid 2litwit, or by going to my homepage http://litwitreviews.blogspot.com .
I do believe this is good advice. I am a university student and have a roof over my head. However, I also believe university/college is a time of life to have a great time. Having a great time costs money and this money has to come from somewhere (no allowances here).
So although I believe in the passion thing I also believe that it is only made for ceratin people. If you are giving up all the experiences that this time in life brings because you can't afford it then you may end up resenting your passion. I believe a balance is the best solution.
This is very good advice, and being a recent graduate something I heard a bit before. When I was an undergraduate, I worked random jobs in order to pay my living expenses, when I started my MA I was luck enough to start working in the history department at my university, but did not get to lead an discussions. What do you do when you are working in the field you are passionate about, but not necessarily what you want to do? Once I graduated, I had to take a job in a historical museum, which would be fine except I dislike the environment I am in. I deal with the museum's collections, and not education. Next year I will start my PhD and get teaching experience through the university, but till what can I possible do when I cannot get on at a community college?
I think that some here are missing the key point here. It has always been the obligation of the researcher to be skeptical. Wikipedia is certainly not, nor does it try to be, the end all be all source of knowledge. And it never will be. The problem arises when the uninformed take popular to mean reliable, or factual. I am not saying that Wikipedia doesn’t have some great information on it, but as with all information it can never truly be complete and all encompassing. Why does it matter if it is the corporation making malicious edits to present a rosey view or the individual railing the corporation for all the dirt they can dig up. Both view are biased, both can have credible facts support them. You have to make the decision on what it means to you, and what you deem to be the “Truth”
For years I have been confused about annuities, although my broker keeps pushing them. Your explanation was the FIRST ONE to make sense to me. Mind you, that doesn't mean I'll be getting an annuity, but thank you for the clear and concise explanation of how they work.
Super advice and a great post which every student/kid incl. their parents need to read and contemplate. I too wish someone had told me these things when I was young instead of having now to struggle to find all these things out at middle age.... Thanks again for a wonderful post.
In talking with several friends who have rental properties, every last one of them has said that the amount that they receive in the rent does not cover the mortgage. However, the property is appreciating and when the property sells, they will come out ahead...
I tend to prepare before my guest arrive by making and freezing a lasagna. I then pull it out and set the oven timer to start and hour and a half before I serve. All I need to do is throw a salad together and fresh fruit for desert. I also assemble and freezing breakfast bread pudding. Bake banana bread and muffins.
This allows me to spend more time relaxing when company is here. Last time I had a total of 16 to feed. We dined in as the logistics of going out was more frightening!
Since I got my iPod this spring I have been checking audio books out from the library. I have a 40 minute commute and used to listen to NPR but got tired of listening to the same stories over and over again. For me it is a great way to "read" books!
We use small face washers and they go in the washing machine with the nappies. They're re-usable for this baby (and future babies) and I'm not spending money each week replacing them.
We also found that moist baby wipes actually made the cleanup process much messier than a wet face washer (we call them "bum wipes" :) ) as the baby wipes would just slick the mess around while the face washer collects it.
That's just our experience, though. Obviously it will be different for others.
There should be an entry listing all questionable edits and their editors and it could get linked permanently to the pages which were edited.
If someone directly involved with the subject of an entry is involved in the editing of an entry that's the evolution of the subject as I see it.
an appropriate note detailing the event should be added and a link to the entry on questionable edits.
There goes wikipedia's credibility. Wikipedia once was the source for reading about almost what and where anything comes from. Now its just a upgraded tool for corporate companies to show how big they are and remove all remarks they might not like about truthful events or findings.
I was thinking $4 and up for the bags of 280+ that you refill the dispensers with. I don't buy the tubs with the dispensers anymore cause they are just too much packaging.. sorry for not clarifying that.
It might be time to pop on back over to Simply Audiobooks and take a peek at their new site. They have updated their service and now ship books of 15 cds or less in whole. No more book parts. I had cancelled my membership a while back because they split them up. Now I'm back and once again LOVING the service! Never have to wait for the second half and they seem to ship faster!
If you are designing an amortization schedule and then want to see how additional money on the principal will affect your payoff, then you need to use (or download) a 30-year mortgage schedule (not a 21-year or 19-year schedule as the calculations wouldn't work correctly using this method) and then go to year 11 to see where you are in your payoff and what you can do to accelerate the payoff if that is your goal. You can download this schedule (http://www.wisebread.com/files/fruganomics/DIY_acceleration.xls), replace $153,000 with $200,000 and replace the 6% with 7%. You'll also need to refigure the payment amount (I should have designed the spreadsheet a bit better; but the formula for you should use is =PMT(7%/12,360,-153000,0,0) which will equal $1017.91 (principal and interest only, I haven't included escrow amounts for property taxes). If you are in year 11, your balance should be between $125K and $128K. So, starting there (say in month 132), you can add principal amounts to the monthly payment. If you made an extra payment of $1000 in month 132, you'd pay the loan off three months early.
Let me know if you have more questions or if you need some validation of the numbers.
Funny you should say that! I heard Crisco many times in my research.. I just can't bring myself to do it for some reason... but then again, I come from a generation of folks who claim Crisco works for everything.

Does anyone have the current month's code? " PRESENT " is expired.
Thanks!

Good tips :)
However, I don't know what baby wipes cost $4!!
The generic brand wipes cost about $1.50 or less for a box of 100+ sheets! Like Target brand, for example.

this book was helpful to me when I was preg with my son, sweet deal.
I've heard of similar deals at other places as well. But not for free.
I have never once checked out the audiobook thing. thought about it, but haven't done it yet.
LOL, if I added up all of the money I spent on diapers, etc., I could probably buy a Beverly Hills mansion. You've got some cool ideas here.
Hmmmm....never thought this was possible.
haven't read it, but it sounds like a good read.
