But I find that the little packets are the BEST. If they don't come with the flowers you buy, you can sometimes charm the florist at Safeway into giving you a spare pack if you smile broadly enough.
from that cheesy "bed of roses" movie w/christian slater (ok i liked the movie and i liked him). it works! something to do w/the sugar and lemon - so maybe lemonade works just as well. they do last longer!
It can take a while to establish yourself as a reputable art seller. The thing that often makes up my mind for me is not the art itself but the cost of shipping it. Take the Mr. T portrait I linked to - there's no reason for that to cost $70 to ship it to the U.S. Yes, overseas shipping is expensive, but that is bloody ridiculous.
Anyway, yes - there IS something for everyone. My sister recently purchased an oil painting of a panda bear that is both oddly cute and nightmare-inducing. To each their own.
I'm glad you wrote on this, I have a friend who is going to put up some oil paints on eBay. Good to hear what you look for an the like. They were worried no one would buy, but this just tells me there is something for everyone!
All I get is the same survey over and over - asking me if I plan on renting a car, and then trying to install spyware on my computer. What's the deal? I don't want sweepstakes entries for talking about Macy's advertising - I want money. Am I doing something wrong?
I've been doing surveys at mysurvey.com for years. The payoff is slim, but it's actually kind of fun, and you sometimes find out about new ideas companies you know are throwing around way before it actually happens (like starbucks in a styrofoam cup at 7-11 or a name change for the phillip morris company).
After I wrote my post, I sent DailyLit an email with a link, and thanked them for their service. They let me know that they'll be expanding the site soon, with forms for book discussion, etc. Sounds like they'll be trying to build a little Reading community over there. Very cool!
for those w/flexible work schedules, while searching for survey sites that pay you for your time, keep an eye out for sites recruiting people for focus groups. i just went to one yesterday that paid $150 CASH for 2 hours of my time discussing organic foods. the company I went through was fieldwork .
"This gives me hope for a technological cure for spendthriftness: a credit card that would remind you of your outstanding balance every time you started to buy something. It could flash the total in large numbers, or announce it in a voice (say, Simon Cowell’s) designed to arouse any insula."
this is awesome! i get so bored at my job (so bored, in fact, that i have about 35 blogs i read multiple times a shift, always hoping for more updates) and i too am a Reader with a capital R. I just bought french women don't get fat because of the post about vegetable soup a few days ago too...
Thank you so much for the link! I am also a Reader who always has to be reading something even if its the list of ingredients on a package! But this site should help- and help beef up my knowledge of the classics. I signed up for Zola's Short Stories (favorite author).
I'm currently reading Austen's Persuasion. It's in 95 installments, which seemed like a lot to me when I started it, but I'm almost done now. I wondered if I'd have trouble because of having to remember the plot from day to day, but it really hasn't been a problem. And it's great to know that I'll have at least one non-stressful email in my box every day.
i was writing a post about dailyLit last night, but didn't finish it because of a splitting headache! it's funny how some things just need to get out there sometimes.. regardless of who spreads the word.
You are a brilliant shopper! Thanks for the tip. Found your site thru lifehacker... looks interesting.
I bought these two paintings a couple of years ago for mother's day:
OK, we really love cats at the Chen household. :)

While on flickr.com, looking for a good flower pic for this posting:

Oh yeah? Jessica Alba was Mrs. Fantastic!
I hope we send them some quality readers to help with their launch.
Greetings from a fellow thrifty person! This is a phenominal find!

I'm going to subscribe to Dickens. His stories were first published as serial installments so this will be a truly authentic Dickens experience!
