Great article. Found you from BizSugar. I'm a freelancer based out of San Diego. I joined a co-working space (Hera Hub) mainly because I was looking for another place (other than Starbucks) to work between meetings and shuttling my daughter to and from school. Joining is one of the best things I've done because not only is it space, but it gives you access to a network of people and experts. I've also already had opportunities and business come from the co-working space. Highly encourage people to see if there are spaces in their areas.
What a great article -- don't forget about saving money using eBay too! I've bought most of my designer stuff on eBay for a fraction of the price. I've become sort of addicted/a pro.
Here is what I do:
1. Order water. It's healthier and it'll save you $1-3 per person, depending on how nice the place is.
2. If it's me and one of my lady friends, and we're at a place like Chili's that has huge portions, we'll split a meal.
3. Always look for coupons. We get the moneysaver/valpack/midweek stuff in the mail and restaurants, especially new places in town always have good coupons in those.
That being said, if I use a coupon or split a meal I leave a tip based on what we would've spent. Not fair to cheat the waiter just b/c I had a coupon. Coupons don't count toward their tips.
OK . Thank you so much for the insight. I will probably start another mash around Tuesday. Run on Saturday. I will post what happens then on Saturday night or Sunday morning. Once again THANK YOU!
When I go out with my girlfriend, I will first look and see if there are any specials that we like. And if there's nothing else that we'd prefer, we usually end up getting those.
Plus getting water instead of drinks is frugal AND healthy.
I received one today in my 8 year old sons name.... He never signed up for one either.. But they don't answer calls it seems nor can I get a fax out...
Jennifer, You wrote my reply to this blog. I agree! Really, if we are "wise" and living on a "budget" forget these objections. One more item on number five relating to the prepackaged stuff, most of us use items which come prepackaged - detergent, deodorant, yogurt, granola, paper towels, and a lot more. As my mother informed me after 35 years working in a grocery store, the manufactures coordinate the coupons with sales so take advantage of them. This often makes the product a half price or less. Plus learn the product "sales cycle" to coordinate your coupons with the sales.
Nice article! I would just add that you can find plenty whole-market index funds with fees less than 1%, as compared to most mutual funds with fees in the 2-3% range. I like Vanguard Total Market Fund, as a good example.
It can be a nightmare if you have a terrible real estate agent who doesn't look out for your best interest. Always research as much as you can - as described in the article - it will save you lots of time and frustration! Great article over all!
Great article, as I've been trying to get involved in this. I have two major handicaps, though - I have very little previous house sitting experience, and I have very little experience with pets. I haven't yet signed up for these house sitting sites, because I assume these two strikes will keep me from getting any assignments. Thoughts?
ok, this is how I do it.
one tbsp in to 8 oz of water(shampo)
one tbsp APCV into 8 oz of water (conditioner)
I wet my hair before I use the backing soda mix then appply to my roots wash it of with water and apply the APCV mix with really cold water.
my ends feel so waxy I can't run my fingers thru it. how do I get rid of that sebum/waxy feeling in my hair??
So far it looks pretty neat, but I wish that there was a way to put a higher payment in sometimes... I guess time will tell how useful it is in comparison to Mint's goals. Nice interface though.
This list is exactly what I needed today (probably every day, honestly). Telling people my plans always works for me. If I say I'm going to do something, friends always end up asking me about it, and hold me to it! I don't know if I can commit to #23, honestly, hah.
I had the same problem as Bob - Turbo Tax did not add in the passive rental depreciation deduction from my Federal form and I began to receive tax bills stating this miscalculation in 2010. The first year (for 2007) was an error of over $300 plus penalties, the second year (for 2008) $140, the third year (for 2009) I didn't even file because that actual tax year (2010) is when I started getting my bills from the past (I should have filed manually, but was dealing with significant health issues with a child and it got put on the back burner for 2 years). The 4th year (2010) I completed the form manually. I didn't GET A NOTICE it was wrong until year 3...so fun getting tax BILLS in the mail to make your day. Do you think Turbo Tax stood behind their guarantee...NOOOOOOOOO. I too made the mistake of calling them to inform them...and still no changes. I think I am going to take up this fight again, to get my fees back from those years - turning on the squeaky wheel as we speak.
1 cup sweet water at 100-110 F with yeast, sit for about 20 minutes to foam up.
This will 'wake up' the dry, hibernating, yeast. It will also double in volume and give you twice as much working beasties. Bakers yeast is fine, but expect it to max out at a lower %, about 8%. Otherwise use your turbo.
Different yeast work at different temperatures. Usually, it takes longer, at cooler temps. 60 is low, but it will work. Think of room temps, around 70-80 F. If you get it too close to the 80s or above, you will start to get "off flavours".
After you have distilled, you alcohol needs to air out. It will release some odd smells you do not like. If you are using canning jars, just leave the lid sitting on there without the ring, maybe upside down. This will allow some smells to escape.
Your recipe is fine. Expect it to ferment for 3-4 days. When distilling, throw out the first cup, 8 oz. Or save it for starting a fire. Do not let it get on your skin. Methanol will absorb through the skin.
uncle jesse's simple sour mash method: explains that the corn this way, is for flavour, not starch. Make sure you pour about a gallon or so of boiling water over the corn to kill germs. Stir for a minute, then add sugar and the rest of the water. Cool to 100-110 F before adding the yeast starter.
Aside from garage sales and flea markets, another way to find an affordable patio furniture is to shop online or do some DIY on old chairs and tables.

I wrote about it on my blog too http://thefrugalmodel.com/blog/99/check-ebay-first to anyone interested in how to shop eBay like a pro :)

In other news, we're officially changing our site name from Wise Bread to Wise Pies.
Great video Meg. =)

We drink water, and only go to places that we have coupons or gift cards for. :)

I feel your pain on the car rentals. I recently rented a car for one day and it cost me a ridiculous amount.
You might also want to try garage and yard sales. They have patio furniture for sale sometimes.
i like wisebread on facebook
we havent eaten out in years - and we honestly dont miss it! but getting water instead of soda was one way we used to save $$
