My greatest would have to be purchasing my home. As a single mommy who doesn't receive child support or anything, I worked so hard to get to where I am at. My kids and I both benefit significantly due to my hard work.
No debt on the cars, no debt on the credit card and just refinanced the home into a 15 year loan at a lower payment. We'll have the house paid off before hubby retires!
I really like the offering of services to neighbors - especially if you live in an aging community. Now that the weather is getting nicer (at least in New England) there are a ton of people looking to get their yards all cleaned up. As far as renting a room I guess you have to be really careful but that might work and lastly as a home-office based kind of guy I'm all for low overhead business models :) Great post and I hope it gets people motivated!
Nobody ever knows how many days here on earth we will be blessed with so if you had a chance to retire early and enjoy the people and animals in your life, I think you did what was best for you. Money will never buy happiness. When it is our last day here on earth, I don't think our last thought will be, "Why didn't I work longer!" It will be why didn't I have more time with the ones I love! I see people working all the time to keep "stuff" like campers, boats, motorcycles, etc. but they work so much, they never get to enjoy them, or they work so hard to keep the payments up, when they could be working less and enjoying the simple things more. We have to make choices in life all the time and maybe your husband should have seen that you were happy in your choice.......
Wait a minute, why not go to soup kitchens, and then open a food cart business? Or join freecycle to sell the items? Or buy from a church flea market, and resell? Buying from Goodwill is always fine, as it benefits their good works. Buying from a charitable organization, in a store meant to help out lower income folks, to sell at a profit, is tacky, tacky, tacky. Goodwill gets the same amount either way, but this gives me a visceral reaction that says "skeevy and greedy".
you can always use your groupon for the amount paid. if you pay 20 for 40 at a restaurant and it expires the expired groupon can still be used as a gift certificate for $20.
Great article. I always tried to do my research and ask questions about the direction the company was going during the phone interviews and it almost always got me a face to face interview.
Excellent observations. Work is rarely consistent and it would be so much more manageable if it was!!!! I think that saving each portion of a payment received is an excellent idea and can really tide you over in difficult times. I sometimes find that proactively talking to old clients that you have previously done work for is also really useful when work is slow at coming in.
Thanks ZORCY. Any little bit helps. Mixing mash tonight, will probably run on Saturday. Hope everything works out . Getting nervous and excited at the same time. Once again THANKS!
Our biggest accomplishment is living within our means and steadily paying down lots of student debt by doing a debt snowball. It started at 80,000 and now we're down to 30,000!
LOL! Thanks for that link, Andrea. It made me feel a whole lot better. Anyway, the Law of Attraction does exist – if you have a positive outlook in your life, everything else will follow. Being optimistic allows you to overcome whatever dilemma you’re facing. The belief of making it through whatever hardships is enough to make you a great survivor in life. =)
So far my biggest financial accomplishment has been to pay off my credit card debt. I learned the lesson the hard way in college, but I will NEVER get myself into that situation again!
Getting in on or arranging a community yard sale can be a great spin on the regular yard sale -- the more stuff available, the more people you can probably attract.
I agree with you on the other people handling me part. I've gotten a mani-pedi once -- for a wedding -- and while the results were nice and the process was pretty calming, I couldn't get over thinking about how this stranger was removing the dead skin from my feet.
I actually did work at QVC for a little while -- it was my first job out of college. While they have some pretty unnecessary stuff (like, well, most retailers), I will say that they also have some high-quality products at decent prices. I bought pillows, food storage containers, and make up from QVC that I was really happy with.

Thanks for the tip -- a smile is a great way to sound positive and interested.

Cash crate is a good way to earn a little extra cash, it's helped me out a lot and I just started.

Liked you and the post on Facebook.
My daughter has one more semester of under grad, and ingot her through with cash, no loans. I've been living so frugally for 3 years!

I've bought so many of my college books from Cash4Books they're great. I've never heard of Gift Card Granny though it looks great.

Paying off 25k in student loans, saving up an emergency fund and being well on our way to putting over 20% down on our first home! I'm very excited.

I think my favorite is pug in a pug outfit.
