I can't seem to avoid getting a refund because I have massive amounts of uncovered medical expenses every year. I was planning on putting this year's refund toward rebuilding the emergency fund which was depleted when I was hospitalized last summer, but alas, I need a new air conditioning unit. Oh well...
I keep my W4 dependent counts (and therefore deductions) adjusted so that I end up with more money in my paychecks and almost no refund. Why would you give the government an interest free loan all year?
If I get a tax refund this year I hope to use a little bit for something fun - maybe go out to eat. The rest I would like to put towards our mortgage. Whenever I come by extra money I try to invest some and use the rest to pay down our mortgage debt.
Interesting perspective. As with all things minimalist, there is always the necessity to find a balance between voluntary simplicity and outright deprivation. I think William Morris had it right, "Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”
Sometimes the bulk goodies aren't cheaper than in your favourite grocery store. They may look like a great deal, but be familiar with regular prices whenever possible.
I was let go after 15 years with the same company. My boss retired, and the company laid off everyone who had reported to her. I guess it was time for new blood.
I had been bored with the job for a long time, but the salary and benefits made it seem ridiculous to consider leaving. I felt stifled, but I can only blame that on myself. When I started job-hunting, I quickly realized that my skills were solely out of date. I had become lazy and complacent.
Now I feel alive again. This may be the second best thing that ever happened to me (the first being my divorce).
i have a netspend visa and master card and three bank accts my regular accounts have been compromised numerous times my netspend cards eleven years not one issue all the bad comments about netspend are from people who have not taken the time to READ you can only use money you put on it hence the name PREPAID so really what is all the fuss about
"Regulation, regulation, regulation." Every boom has a bust. The central bank kept interest rates low (making money cheap) and caused this bubble. This is regulation. Fannie and Freddie secured loans allowing for more to be originated and for the balloon to begin to heat up.
When all else falls don't blame the market. Blame the heroin government and the federal reserve gave to us.
That's not just heat, it's moisture and that sort of thing can create all kinds of problems with moisture growth inside a house. I don't even know if it's a good idea if you live in a really dry climate, but definitely a no-no if you live in a moist climate like the pacific northwest.
Hi Mark,
Did you say a Bank trained you in Money laundering.
then kindly tell me how you do it,because we might just decide to hire you.We are a consortium of discrete Gentlemen from Nigeria willing to recruit your expertise if you can describe in detail what you can do with $100 million or more
We don't get a large refund since we have our withholdings pretty well worked out. But we need a new toilet so we'll be buying one of those with the money and the rest will go into our emergency fund.

My $1200 refund is going right into savings to help build that 6-month living expenses cushion all the experts seem to recommend for singles!

We're getting the $8000 homebuyer credit and using about half of it to fix up our new house and half of it to pay down student loans! Hooray!

I'm spending my tax refund on Redskins season tickets.

I'm putting my return straight into my Roth IRA
Shanghai Gardens. Get the barley noodles with hand shaven chow mein. Its wonderful!
I need to use it to pay my credit card bill from last month!
We are saving to go to Australia to visit our daughter when she spends a semester studying abroad.
I will buy a piece of mind by putting my returns into my savings account, which will help me to go graduate school.
We don't get a big refund - just a couple hundred dollars. We'll set that aside for my daughter's driver's education sessions - look out!
I usually use the refund on something I should have saved up for but didn't - and then the rest I try to save
