Not "skills," exactly, but some of the old-fashioned things we enjoy doing that also save money include making our own chicken and turkey bone stocks, hanging our laundry to dry, and making our own liqueurs and infused liquors. None of these activities take more than a few minutes to start, but the results are so much better and less expensive than the doing it the "modern" way.
I have to cards tied to same point system. So every 2 weeks I just switch cards. I pay them off before their due buy it gives me flexibility for bigger purchases and helps me visually budget better.
It is okay to give them bread if it has been soaked in water so that it has already expanded. I have feeding it, along with other things like seed and fruit to the birds that visit our garden for 20 years. The sparrows like to give it to their young, who appear to continue to thrive. They are bright enough to not just stick to the bread, they will eat insects etc too.
In the making of commercial grapefruit juice (and orange juice), the citrus fruit is NOT PEELED first, but dumped whole into a hopper and smashed, skin and all, which makes it one of the most toxic things you can drink. The sprays and pesticides are all included in store-bought citrus juice. The only safe way to consume non-organic grapefruit juice is to squeeze it yourself in a hand-held juicer, or peel it first for an electric juice machine.
If a grower is not using pesticides, then what difference does it make if the produce is labeled "organic" or not? That was the point of the whole argument. And most produce is not GMO in the first place. It was completely appropriate to make that point in conjunction with corn, and not elsewhere. I guess it's worth it to some people to pay more to avoid doing any research for themselves.
I think one really good way to find out how much life insurance you really need is to use a life insurance needs calculator.
You can search for "life insurance calculator" online and find several good ones to use.
They are fairly straightforward to use - you just answer some basic questions about your financial situation and goals, and the calculator gives you an instant, accurate estimate of your life insurance needs based on your personal situation.
When choosing a life insurance policy make sure you understand what your goal is for your life insurance policy - what you want your life insurance plan to accomplish, now and in the future.
I will always suggest splitting it and think this is the fairest way. Once we are dating more steadily, this usually turns into taking turns paying the whole bill.
Nice article with some great points, thanks for the good info. I would like to add to the part about mammograms at 40. I am one of the few women (I think it was 1,000 women statistically who would miss a timely diagnosis) who would be dead if I had had listened to the new recommendations. No risks, no family history. I just knew something was wrong in my body. For my nickel, thermography would be better than doing nothing & a plus, no radiation, no mashing.
I have two heaters in my room , it's 48f inside my room, this is not intentional Im trying really hard to heat up my room both are on high. Trust me being this cold is not fun, typing this out is freezing my fingers off.we don't have a heat system in this house we can only use little space heaters. I wake up with a sore throat all the time this dry cold weather is awful. We keep our faucets dripping so that the water doesn't freeze and bust our pipes. That's wasting water and money there but it has to be done. During summer our house gets pretty warm. But winters are the worst
I've also replied to many job listings and received 5 or 6 of very similar responses. They all say the position has been filled but they are in need of a personal assistant to do a number of different things that include cashing checks, sending money orders, buying and sending goods, etc. They all claim to be out of the US currently but are willing to send payment upfront. It's always $500 wkly or more. I had a Tijani Rammykush offer to pay me $2000 every 2 wks to clean her apartment while she was over seas! The only "problem" was that her secretary accidentally sent my pay and the painters pay. So I was to cash this enormous check and send most of it to someone else. I couldn't get this lady to really answer my questions. It was all too vague. I must've asked too many questions because I never received that check. This is very discouraging when you're really seeking employment!
Wonderful post! As a personal finance lover I didn't expect to see anything new to me in your post, but #5 threw me off. The psychology of spending doesn't come up very often, but it is definitely important. It's why consumers spend more using a card than using cash, or why businesses will sometimes give you a better deal if you pay in cash.
Thank you for sharing this information. I recently got in a car accident and my radiator busted. I need to find a good body shop to fix the problems with my car. As you said, some people can live with a dent or two, but I need my radiator fixed so I have to spend the cash for my car to even work! Body shops are very helpful when we are in need of repairs and replacements for our vehicle. It is important to find a good body shop that is reliable and recognized so we are able to get what we paid for. Thanks again!
Hi! I'm not a big fan of dispensing specific investment advice over the Internet, because everyone's situation/risk tolerance/investments of choice are so different. There are a lot of different ways to structure your money so you can get such a return.
I'm not sure, from your comment, how much investment experience you have, so forgive me if this next part is too simplified. I think it's best to begin by looking into both mutual funds and ETFs that are beating the major indices (like the Dow or the S&P) over extended periods of time. Alternately, you can find a fund manager with a strategy you like and start investing there. If you're not in a position to do this research on your own (for instance, if you're super busy), I'd find someone you trust who will do it for you - this can be a friend or an investment professional. I also know that you can usually call up any investment institution (for instance, where your 401(k) is held) and ask them what funds they know about that meet your particular requirements. I hope that helps!
I believe the person who suggested the date should pay. My reasoning is that the person is wishing to spend time with someone to get to know them better. Making that first step by asking another person to spend some time with you is like asking a friend to join you for a special meal - on you. A true friend will reciprocate at some point. And a person you date should also.
I think it depends on who did the asking. I haven't dated anyone but my husband (we are celebrating our Halfaversary today! 19 1/2 years!) in quite some time, but I think paying your own way is acceptable, as is the guy paying. Not sure how I would feel about paying for a guy on a first date, but if I asked him out, I would offer. If he was a gentleman, would he allow it?

Awesome job James!
Excellent round up as always ... and I hate it when businesses try to manipulate customers instead of actually adding value!
It's been so long since I've had to worry about this that I don't even have an opinion anymore!

When I was dating, guys always did the asking & the paying. Now I would agree that the person who asks pays.

Either whoever asked or you can split it, whatever seems less awkward.

You always say "assuming an 8% return" maybe an updated article with ways to target that - is that post tax? How stable of a plan?
I am a newer reader to the site, and a 2015 version of this topic would be helpful for me.

I have Internet and phone through Comcast, as well as TV. Those who have cut cable TV, what do you do for Internet?
The person who issued the invitation should be the one who pays on a date, regardless of gender.
