Last year a friend introduced me to the easiest menu for parties. We set up a Tostada bar. I just cook up a large pan of taco seasoned ground beef or you could shred up one of those pre-cooked rotisserie chickens and then have all sorts of toppings: cheese, crema or sour cream, hot sauce, pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, refried beans, diced onion, tomato, avocado, etc. You can feed a bunch of people for as little as $25. For dessert we keep it simple with s'mores or cookies. I usually ask friends to bring whatever they like to drink. Couldn't be easier!
Since we are getting married in Sept (talk about being on a budget) we are hosting our annual 4th of July picnic as a potluck. We made it really easy for guests to pick something as cheap and easy as hotdog rolls or "elaborate" as a pie. Any little bit helps and it's fun to see what folks bring.
We are also serving filling inexpensive sides like baked ziti (a box of pasta goes a long way) and baked beans.
When I Host a Party on a Budget, I have everyone bring a dish-this saves lots of money! Go Potluck! I also have them bring their own drinks. It can get expensive trying to serve everyone drinks.
Hi Robert, thank you for your question. If you have a hard time understanding the way markets work but would still like to invest in stocks, it may be a good idea to stick to a low-cost index fund. Over just about any historical five year period, passive index funds beat actively managed funds. On top of that, index funds have much lower and, very often, easier to understand fees.
By investing in the overall market, rather than a single stock, you'll be able to combat irrational exuberance. You would be not focusing on the ups and downs of a single stock, but rather of the entire stock market. Before making any final decisions, please consult your financial advisor or retirement account manager.
Your post moved me. It's one of the (if not THE) major reasons I moved from America to Barcelona.
All societies have their troubles, but the degree of psychological oppression we face is unbearable. It's true that many Americans have the basic necessities, such as food and clean water, but we're conditioned to think that we're nothing if we don't have the car, the house and the iPhone, too. We're caught in an endless cycle of work that doesn't fulfill, money that doesn't stay in our accounts and material things that don't bring happiness. And then when someone speaks against this futile, brutal system, they're called ungrateful at best and communists at worst.
Today, I live with simplicity. I make enough money to support myself and can afford the things that I enjoy every now and then (a nice meal out, a movie at the theater, a new skirt, taking a train to see a new city). More importantly, my universe isn't centered around money and the material things I have. I find so much more value in the relationships I build with others, the culture and art that I see, and the process of learning to live the life that brings me the most fulfillment.
We as Americans (not all, but many) do not have to live the ludicrously stressful and pointless life we currently accept as the norm. The world is out there and if you choose to, you can find the place that makes the most sense to you.

Seattle is not a state.
Sit under the shade trees in a park as you drink a cold bottle of water.
Drink lots and lots of water, also jump into lots and lots of water :) Love being by the pool to cool down on a hot day.
I like to drink a cold glass of lemonade or iced tea to beat the heat.
I stay cool by spending time at the pool.
Yes skin so soft works.!
