  • Ask the Readers: What Is Your Favorite DIY Halloween Costume?   11 years 33 weeks ago

My favourite DIY Halloween costume when I was a kid was a princess one. I wore one of my favourite dresses and made one of those medieval-type hats out of a construction paper cone with one of Mom's gauzy scarves coming out the top and looping up through the bottom. (Does this make sense?! Hopefully someone knows what I mean. lol) Quick, simple, and it must've been cute because a boy around my then-age said, "Look at the pretty princess!" when his parents opened the door at a house I was trick-or-treating at. So he knew what I was supposed to be and thought I was pretty. Win-win! :) I will not be dressing up this year, but my dogs might!

Definitely balloon grapes -- my mom did this for me and my two younger sisters when I was around 8 years old. People thought we were "Fruit of the Loom!"

I don't dress up for Halloween but if I did I would just make a mask from a paper plate or paper bag.

I am not dressing up this Halloween. But my favorite costume is when I dressed up as a Scary Witch!

  • 12 Cheap Ways to Make Your Office Look Awesome   11 years 33 weeks ago

My home office doesn't have empty walls for any kind of art. I like the idea though to blow up a leave or flower. My main issue is #3, that one I have to work on. Hard.

I hang onto the instruction manuals and it saved me a bundle on a wash machine repair! The PDF online was a changed version of the original Maytag warranty and the repairman asked if I had the original paper copy or he would have to charge us for the new moter it needed. I did have the original so it was repaired for free. Make sure that the warranty in the PDF is the same as the manual before you pitch the paper copy!

  • 11 Ways to Get Over Rejection   11 years 34 weeks ago

Rejection goes much deeper than this article tries to gloss over. It is not that easy to get over in some cases. When a mother rejects her child and grandchildren because she is so self absorbed with her own desires and life, this is a life long rejection. It also tends to make you not trust people at the basic human level.

  • Are You Eating the 10 Most Over-Priced Restaurant Menu Items?   11 years 34 weeks ago

When you go out to eat, the food cost is just part of the price. Mostly is for the person who cooks your food and the people who clean after you. Of course i can do a pasta dish fpr about a dollar... but do i really want to scrub for two hours pots, pans, dishes and clean the holy mess of my kitchen?

  • People Who Love Expanding Their Minds Do These 13 Things — Do You?   11 years 34 weeks ago

Good article, I know no one who does all of these things though. Can you imagine the stress this person is under? Learn Maths, Learn a new language, solve puzzles whilst playing games, writing by hand, listening to music, meditating and then trying to find time to sleep. The only person described here is someone in no form of relationship what so ever and has no job.

  • 8 Vile Craigslist Scams to Watch Out For   11 years 34 weeks ago

I discovered a car sale scam on craigslist. It seems the seller was unloading a 2003 Toyota 4wd pickup. When they replied they first thanked me for my interest (why thank me?). Then they explained that the seller was a military member who had just been promoted and was being transferred to an air base in Hawaii (being former military I found being transferred because of a promotion to be unusual). Then the reason for the low price, quick sale because seller is in arrears on a mortgage (didn't need to hear that hard luck story, but a hard luck story like a death, divorce, accident is usually included in a scam ). Then the scam, truck is crated up and waiting shipment from an air base in ND, to a military installation close to your location. They tell you the shipment is being managed by the US Army Logistics Department (No such entity, these shipments were managed by the TMO at the air base). Then I was told to go to ebay motors and ask them the details of the transaction (of course they tell you that you are protected (from what? as close as you can get to ebay's buyer protection plan). The grammar was a tipoff, since they always used "from" rather that "at" when referring to a location. They asked for my data so they could tell ebay. Anyway, realizing it was a scam, I replied with a thank you, but would pass because of all the rigermerole involved in a sale.

  • Organized People Have These 5 Things in Their Homes — Do You?   11 years 34 weeks ago

  • 10 Things You Should Do Immediately After Losing Your Wallet   11 years 34 weeks ago

Some really great tips in this article. That sinking feeling when you can't find your wallet or a credit card is the worst. I'm sure we've all been there at one time or another. Most people don't realize that accidentally losing a wallet or purse is one of the most common ways to have your identity stolen. If the wrong person finds your personal information, watch out. My friend lost her purse at an amusement park a year or so ago and within a week she found fraudulent charges on her credit card, plus attempts to purchase a car in her name. This worried me enough to sign up for credit monitoring, which I never really thought about before honestly. http://www.stopcreditfraud.org/credit-monitoring-services. Identity guard has lost wallet protection, which is nice, plus all the other stuff too. Luckily I haven't gotten any alerts from their system, but it's good peace of mind for sure. I've already taken photocopies of everything I keep in my purse, just in case.

  • Why there's no reason NOT to buy store brand baby formula.   11 years 34 weeks ago

This article isn't accurate, there are plenty of reasons not to use store brand formulas. For example, Walmart brand (Parent's Choice) includes a chemical that causes gas and constipation in some babies. This is a fact, look it up, and my (at the time) 4 month old daughter, had to live with that pain for 2 whole weeks before we realized it was the formula causing it.

  • Ask the Readers: What Do You Like Most About Autumn?   11 years 34 weeks ago

Autumn reminds me of returning to school in New England. In Boston, the chilled air forces you to bundle up in a thick sweater. As a native Virginia, I would dread the onset of fall. Over time, however, I began to enjoy crisper breaths, hot cider, and holding a loved one's hand to give us a small respite from the winds. The colors and scarves remind me of stomping on leaves with rain boots, studying for class in a with coffee, and wandering around Boston's North End in search of a cannoli. Fall reminds me of special people in life. That time we had to slush through damp leaves after a Halloween party. That time we waited for the T together with clattering teeth. That time we tossed a football in Harvard Yard. Fall is nostalgia in shades of orange and red.

  • DO NOT buy a digital camera online until you read this.   11 years 34 weeks ago

    Question,

the whole problem of "grey market" cameras only affect the United States?

for example, I am from Mexico and I have a HUGE PROBLEM getting decent priced camera gear.
Vendors here love to overinflate the prices to ridiculous levels.(imagine a D810 priced at 60,000 pesos, that's nearly 4,800 USD)

Cameras coming from Korea or Japan can be serviced in other countries? or only Japan?

  • How to Eat Well on Just $20 a Week (With Meal Plans!)   11 years 34 weeks ago

I used to live in a college town (Ithaca, NY), and I completely know what you mean. But in ours, there was still an Aldi with the same prices -- thank goodness. It’s such a shame that these deals can’t be found everywhere. I’m currently working on another post like this one where I’m going to attempt another go at the meal plan to see if I can get some other options.
