Fall has always been my favorite! I love how the weather gets just cool enough, and we get a pretty good amount of rain showers in our part of the country. I love the leaves, the festivals, the fall styles, the fall foods (I just tried spaghetti squash for the first time), the anticipation of Thanksgiving and Christmas. My favorite fall food is apple dumplings (we use the Duggar's recipe -- SOO good!).
In general, I prefer to turn and run screaming in the other direction. :) I am awful at small talk! I decided I need to research the topic so I can have fewer awkward conversations in the future. Thanks for a great, helpful article!
You're right about Michigan being a wonderful place to live. I was born and raised here (southern lower MI), and have lived here for 69 of my 72 years, and I couldn't wait to come home. I enjoy the water and the abundance of trees, and the 4 seasons. You're also right that we don't get a lot of sunshine. Being a peninsula between 2 bodies of water means that incoming weather systems gather a whole lot of clouds on their way in and dump the clouds and moisture on their way out! But, it's survivable: you make your own sunshine! I'll never leave Michigan again! Just call me the "MI troll" (because I live under the bridge)!!
We wait months and months each year down here in the deep south for the cooler temperatures to signal fall. Finally, well into October we are getting a taste of a cool night. No more 90's for a while.
There is something wrong with our society when Spanx are recommended to make women feel better about themselves and a girdle is recommended for me. What about self-acceptance instead?
Autumn in Utah is like one of those beautiful fall art pictures you see in a museum. I love To walk near my neighborhood with my daughter to take pictures. I also like to decor my house with harvest items like a welcome sign, warm scent candles, and flowers. Going to the pumpkin patch is a new tradition for my family so excited to see my daughter's first reaction! Dressing up and baking goodies during Halloween night is totally what we are looking forward to enjoy the most :)
Oh fall is one of my favorite seasons! I LOVE the leaves changing colors! So beautiful!!! We love to visit the pumpkin patch and pick out pumpkins, and go to the corn maze! So much fun! One of my favorite fall foods is Apple Crisp! YUM
The other big secret is to book last minute. Through Hotwire, Priceline, and HotelTonight you can get good deals. Or you can just go old school and negotiate directly. Hoteliers hate to give up a chance to sell an otherwise empty room as it costs them very little to add one more guest or couple.
Cooler weather, low humidity & fresh breezes! Living in Louisiana, it's wonderful when the weather finally cools down so we can enjoy sitting on the patio & taking evening walks without sweating. Sadly, we don't get the beautiful changes in color that other areas of the country enjoy...
Guidebooks are sometimes necessary, but I normally tear out the pages I know I won't need. I can slim down the book from 300 pages to the most useful 50-100.
Autumn is my favorite time of year, I love that the weather changes to be cool and mild and that I get to look forward to Halloween and Thanksgiving. And it's great that the cooler weather means I can bake more, especially desserts with apples and all kinds of breads.
Great list! My boys are a little older 11 & 13. So we have a Fantasy Football league with just us and my wife. Fun,competitive and keeps us talking continually through the week. We actually watch games on the weekend together as well. And of course it's absolutely free.
I love the Holidays this time of year. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas are a great time to spend with family. I like making pies and drinking Apple Cider and picking apples at the Apple Farm!
I grew up on the gulf coast of Florida, so now that I live somewhere with actual seasons (northeast Georgia), I truly appreciate them. I love the heat of the summer, but when it ends, I am ready for the crisper, dry air, especially in the early morning when I run. Our children like to roast marshmallows over our fire pit, and we can watch SEC football every weekend. I like to think that no matter how old I get, I'm never too old to jump in a pile of freshly raked leaves with my kids. I hope I'll always feel that way.
I like the changing colors of the foliage while out for a walk. Also the cooler evenings are so much more comfortable for sleeping! It's our favorite time to go camping and enjoy the outdoors.
I love autumn -- the cooler temps, the beautiful color changes in foliage. But what I love most is visiting the apple orchard in our NC mountains. We enjoy the morning outside as we pick apples and devour fresh, hot apple cider and apple donuts.

Good and insightful article Marla. I like that you gave examples and didn't just leave it at what not to do. Thank you.
love winter clothes and the crisp air

I love the changing color of the leaves and the breezy cooler weather.
I love the apple and pumpkin baked goods!

I love the look of Autumn outside with the leaves and trees and overall beauty of it all. I also love the entire feeling of the season.

When the leaves start turning beautiful colors, it's time for my birthday! (And that means cake.) Hence, my favorite things!
I love the cooler temperatures. Ever since I finished school, summer has really lost its allure, being just the unpleasantly hot season.
