I have tried to focus my gift giving to feed small vices rather than big indulgences. For instance, giving wine or a manicure or a favorite candy rather than a tablet or a television.
Susan -- very good point. I have a love/hate relationship with auto bill-paying. I use it only for those recurring charges that (most likely) won't change....and I do that for the very reason you illustrate in your example. :)
I don't spend very much on my great nieces and nephews (yes, we still buy for them) - I try and keep it between $5-10. It's a challenge, but they get so much they really don't care.
I used two of these recommended thrift items, a basket and dish ware to put together a wedding gift last month. I found a full cappucino set at the thrift store for $5, paired it with a beautiful woven basket and wrapped it all up in a bow.

Guess thats how they get away with it so i dont really mind they just ask us to fill about polls and stuff like asking how much we were going to buy etc..
USAA does have one of the best secured credit cards. Yes, you do have to have parents that are with USAA or have to be in the military yourself. (Sorry guys)
The CD can start out at $250 and members can add up to $5000 at any time. The best part about this card is that anyone who owns this card is 9.9% APR. (Most companies range between 18.99-22.99) Many companies like Bank of America pull your credit at the time of opening the card and any time you want to add more to the CD to up the limit. USAA never does do a hard hit to members credit when they get a secured credit card.
The only downsides are that there is a $35 annual fee and the card can never graduate to an unsecured credit card. (Which from what I hear USAA is working on)
I have been a long trem ING direct customer. When Capitalone360 purchased ING I was very concerned but willing to give the benefit of the dount.
Without rattling on about a great number of small inconveniences like the extra steps in the mobile app I will instead focus on the one big issue that is in my opinion a deal breaker: I can't ever log in to my account.
I work in IT and as such, passwords, and accurately remembering them is someong I do fairly regularly. I'm not perfect, but in my years with ING, I never had an issue remembering my sign in PIN.
Since the buyout I have to cycle between 4 browsers (IE x86, chrome, firefox, and opera) to see which will accept my PIN. Initially I was worried I was screwing up but out of 13 calls to customer service, I've been able to authenticate with my PIN 13 times so the issue is not likely me. Every time I go to log in I get a "your pin is incorrect" message and have to start altering browsers. IE (32 bit only) seems to have the best success rate at around 60% but IE is NOT my main browser and I am very dissatisfied to have to log in with a different browser each time.
I have called and left VERY detailed descriptions of my issue with time stamps (to the second) and gone as far as to offer wireshark captures of what I'm getting in response but in the 3 months I've been actively trying they can't seem to resolve this.
This is an online banking account, and as such my ability to log in whenever I need is a paramount concern, Capitalone has managed to break a good and existing relationship beyond repair. Look somewhere else for an online bank or be prepared to go through a lot of phone support to get things going.
I will say their phone support agents have increased in quality but that doesn't fix the underlying problem.
Sales, coupons, and ebates. I do all of my Christmas shopping online which let's me do price comparisons more easily and avoid the hassle of not being able to find what I'm looking for.
Here in the UK we actually have some makes of car that have electrically heated front windscreens as standard! To me this is as important as a spare tire or a rear view mirror...(and these come as standard)!!
The last car that I had with this function was a ford (I wonder if they have the patent?) and the difference was amazing, start the engine switch on the car heater and both front and rear screen heaters, wait for the window wipers to clear the melted ice...and drive away. Heaven!
Shopping isn't about everything even if you have enough money to go shop all you want. There are a lot more sensible and productive things anyone should do rather than go shopping.
Shopping for gifts don't really have to be expensive. We just have to spare a little extra time to shop around the thrift stores and bring out the creative side of us.
We get together with friends and do gift exchanges and shop sales throughout the year and make homemade baked goods for gifts. Our biggest budget challenge this year is that we are both currently unemployed and looking for work. Fortunately, we have used credit card points and gift cards to make purchases and are limiting our gifts.
I think that most people fail in business due to one or more of the following reasons:
1. Lack of proper planning and no goals for the business
2. Too much debt and poor money management skills
3. Improper market research, before and after startup
4. Laziness; not willing to put in the work required
5. Not serious and dedicated to running a business
This article makes a lot of sense. I landed more jobs through networking with the right people and word of mouth, than through any other source. Also, in this economy, college degrees are very overrated. Too many people have bachelors degrees in liberal arts and business administration. It "waters down" the value of the degree. The saying that, "It's not what you know, but who you know" is very true.

So far I have saved by shopping black friday and by shopping online using online codes

The drinking water as soon as I wake up does it for me, I also drink plenty of water before I go to sleep.
