Splenda in the long run is much worse for you than sugar.Keep in mind that natural products are always absorbed by your body better, and splenda is fully manmade while sugar has only been processed. Anything with no added sugar or zero calories is terrible for your body and hasn't been in use for long enough for people to understand it's full consequences. Even decaffeinated coffee has a negative effect on your body because of the chemical process they use to remove the caffeine. The more natural you are the better, and if we're not careful it will become impossible to find foods that don't contain artificial sweeteners. Aspartame has been proven to cause holes in the brains of mice even in miniscule amounts! Also keep in mind that dieticians (trained medical doctors in the field of consumption) eat butter instead of margarine and put sugar in their coffee.

  • 15 Delicious Ways to Prepare a Humble Head of Cabbage   12 years 44 weeks ago

Great list of cabbage uses. Thank you, I'll be trying a few. You do have one thing wrong about Sauerkraut though. With all the junk, salt, sugars and preservatives in some of the store bought ones, it's way better to do your own - that way you can benefit from the nutrients of the cabbage. The store ones have less nutrients and with added sugars and iodized salts, they can actually border on being bad for you.

Hi Kentin, This is a good list that looks a lot like what I do to avoid procrastination. I guess being productive is pretty much the antithesis to procrastination.

  • How Much College Can You (and Your Kid) Afford?   12 years 44 weeks ago

I think that money should play a role also. Studies show that student debt is increasing so it makes sense to be creative when funding the college bill. College can be a great experience independent of money considerations but a decision you make in your teens shouldn't rule your life for years or even decades later.

My rule of thumb for a healthy diet is, "If I don't buy it, then I won't eat it." This way I only have to have strong willpower when I shop at the grocery store once per week (which is easy if I just avoid certain aisles), not daily when I go to the cupboard or fridge.

  • Make Your To-Do Lists More Effective With These 5 Simple Hacks   12 years 44 weeks ago

Abigail -- Thanks for your comment. I confess, I do the same thing when I complete a task that's not on my list! It does help to be able to point to the things you've accomplished in a day. :)

  • Make Your To-Do Lists More Effective With These 5 Simple Hacks   12 years 44 weeks ago

I have severe fatigue issues. So I have to balance between what I want to get and what I can feasibly get done. Thanks to depression, I also have to be careful how much I put on a list, lest I feel overwhelmed by the number -- or upset with how "little" I've accomplished.

So I try to make lists of several items -- some easy, some more involved -- and try to get 1-2 done each day. I find that I shouldn't list more than 5. And I try to always start with an easy one. It can help me feel empowered and maybe spur me on to tackle another one. That said, there are days when nothing gets done, and I have to make peace with that. Beating myself up just wastes what little energy I have.

And, yes, I've been known to do an errand, realize it's not on the list, write it down and cross it off. It's important to be able to point to the things you've done in a day, especially when they'll be very limited.

Drink only water. Avoid soda and store bought juice beverages. This helps me maintain calories and lead a healthy life style.

I also eat only one fried item once a week. I don't think I can forgo my "fried" indulgence forever. This is a good alternative that helps me keep fit.

Taking my own packed lunch to work and making sure to include fruits and veggies so I don't get hungry. This helps me a lot. Try to really limit junk food too many calories and little nutritional value. I am over 50 and those calories can really pack on the weight.

  • Horizon Organic Milk: Is it All Just Lies?   12 years 44 weeks ago

You are way off on all of this I work in this industry and almost all of what you have written is exaggerated or flat out lies. The only true thing you stated is that milk is tested for antibiotics that is true and that hormones are already in milk. Also cows pass through what they eat if they are eating corn that had chemicals used on it the it can be passed through in the milk same thing as breastfeeding what you eat you pass to your kid. Don't forget that the USDA allows for x amount of almost anything to be in your food from bugs in your cereals or rat feces to chemicals. Also organic cows must have pasture at least 70% or better of the year not just "access" that was a flat out lie you stated. Also it is impossible for a pasture fed cow to make more milk then a conventional cow. Also it is a proven fact that grass fed cows have milk that is higher in Omega 3 fatty acids that in its self makes organic milk or conventional milk that is grass fed better for you. Also organic cows are not shipped if antibiotics are used the withdraw time is 2x as long. Also to in order to not use as many antibiotics animal husbandry has to be better then conventional farming so the animals are treated better. Also breeding has created a cow lazy cows that don't want to work ie graze, cows bred for grazing that a cow is intended to do will graze and not need to be fed a TMR of corn or grain and still make ok milk grass fed cows make about 30% less milk then the standard. I am a conventional farmer that is thinking of going organic because I love my cows and want a better life for them the premium price for that milk would allow that to happen but only if people like you don't spread lies and try to ruin a good thing. Organic farmers do not make a lot more money then conventional farmers if they ship milk wholesale to say companies like Horizon, they do however make better money if they process and market their own milk same as if a conventional would if they did the same.

Money has to be a big factor in selecting a school. It is obvious that student loan debt is out of control. It is up to parents to guide their children to pursue a debt free education. This includes going to a junior college for a couple of years while working to help pay for their education. I provide financial coaching to singles and families and find that student loan debt is killing them, so is it really worth it?

Referencing Gina Rinehart and her "advice" - it's not as if she earned her billions herself, she was an heiress. Which brings me to the main reason I'm not rich - my parents weren't rich!
