By simply taking time do things we don't normally take time to do together. He's been wanting to go hiking for a while - free. I like to do silly simple crafts and we already have supplies, so I think we'll finger paint some ridiculous wall art for our place. We will re-watch our favorite couples movie "Away We Go". I printed free, humorous valentines from internet searches. Cooking together can be fun. Give each other free massages!
You're right, Nova Scotia is to the east of Ontario. So the excerpt above, which says that witch hazel spreads westward from Nova Scotia to Ontario, is also correct. =)
Another entertaining, well researched and well written article. I first heard about (and was intrigued by) the Little Free Library movement thanks to an article in USA Today. Thanks to Max Wong for providing more intriguing details about Little Free Libraries including the information on how to get started. There are many other wonderful suggestions in this article about how book lovers can indulge their passion without spending huge amounts of money. One of the things I like best about this author's writing is her ability to weave interesting tidbits about her own life into the fabric of the story she's crafting. I look forward to reading more from Max Wong.
I think its so much more fun to cook dinner with the one you love then spend a ton of money on an expensive restaurant. This way you can cuddle up waiting for the food to cook, and enjoy some soft music and candle light. What could be better?
I love the heart shaped sandwich idea! I am horrible at keeping surprises a secret so I kept asking my boyfriend to guess what I got him for Christmas. He always replied with some smart comment like, "A turkey sandwich?" In reality I had bought him tickets to go to a Patriots game in Miami (He is from Boston and we live in Tampa) and I was going to give him the tickets a week or so before the game. I had planned to make him a turkey sandwich and lay the tickets on the plate similar to how a pickle would come served with a sandwich but of course I couldn't keep the surprise a secret that long and he knew two months ahead of time we were going. Long story short, I owe him that turkey sandwich and I am going to use the heart shaped idea this Thursday.
Looks like to have a sound plan! Good to see that you're working on both building up your emergency fund, as well as contributing to your long-term investments.
You can make a lot of the cosmetic products such as scrubs, facials, and leave in conditioners at home for the fraction of the cost!
And quitting a gym is also a great way to cut extra expenses, with the applications that are available through technology these days you can use workouts found online to get the same workout at home for free!
Debt is a very hard thing to deal with, I agree that talking to someone and coming clean about being in debt is the best way to give yourself a wakeup call and start doing something about it.
These are some very thoughtful and practical gifts. Gifts for new mothers and for baby showers can get expensive, and buying practical small items like medicine and socks that a new mother might not think of is a great way to give without emptying your wallet!
Slow cookers are a great and easy way to cook, I end up using mine multiple times a week (especially since it is still nice and cold outside, a hot meal is a great way to stay warm!)
It is surprising to see how many people neglect to stay up to date on their credit information. It is very important to know that everything is in line and accurate! They should teach things like this in school, I am a Junior in college and my parents have taught me about all of these, but I know many of my peers have no idea how to handle any of this on their own!
Great post. Buying organic foods and being vegan is not a cheap task, and these are some great tips to saving money. I like to go to my local farmers market and small organic farms in the area to save on fresh produce, not only is it super fresh and clean of chemicals but it also gives me a chance to support the local economy!
Eating at home is a lot cheaper and definitely more romantic than waiting in a crowded, loud, and dark restaurant for a pricy meal that will probably be rushed so the restaurant can bring in more business. The raspberry cream cupcakes and the risotto with wild mushrooms and scallops sound incredible, I'll have to try cooking those this Valentine's Day!
I like you take on the list of dreams. Have heard of this before. Have sat down and done it myself. And the twist is... I never gave it a time limit. I like that aspect because it forces you to commit, engage, and win the battle for 100 things you want to be, do, or have.
My 5 year plan consists of expanding my emergency savings and saving for a downpayment for an apartment (while still contributing to my medium and long term investments). The biggest factor in keeping myself on track is to reduce my expenses. I use mints PF App and I enter EVERYTHING I spend. While it pulls all of my CC spending for groceries, bills, etc. I enter everything else manually to know exactly what I am spending. This is an excellent tool and I recommend anyone looking to monitor their spending closely to give it a try.
Yes, there are lots of things that we think we need but are really not important to us. maybe, its all because of the advertising and media hype that tells us to buy products which are not essential . We need to be prudent. Balance is the key to logical shopping. Consumers will get good points from you.
I was with T mobile on pas as you go for 10 years. I finally went on contract on 30 nov 2012 for a fee of £10.50 per month as i hardly use my phone except to call family. I started recieving these spam text messages on 1st december 2012 the following day. I never ever recieved these spam texts when i was pay as you go. My first T mobile bill came in at £37.50!!! I rang T mobile and they sent me an itemised breakdown of my bill and all the extra charges were from the scam texts!! T mobile refused to block these third parties. I honestly believe T mobile sold my phone number to these scammers, and get a cut from the charges. I have gone back on pay as you go with another network provider and have never recieved another spam text, T mobile refused to cancel my contract and so i have to pay them £10.50 a month until november for a service that i dont use.
Only thing is, how practical is it to meet someone in a public place with a couch or other large piece of furniture? Most of them don't offer to deliver.
Annual Credit Report is a great place to get credit reports and they are truly free. You can order them once a year. Now a credit score is different and you will normally be required to purchase information on your credit score but it is usually under ten bucks.

Suzanne--
Thank you so much for your kind words. They made my day!
Also, thank you for giving birth to Meg! She's an amazing and inspirational editor. I honestly couldn't do this job without her.
I am definitely frugal by this list. But I don't know the secret magic in a bottle of furniture scratch cover. Please share! I'm dying tks know! Lol.
We make home-made items - they express more anyways!

And thanks for sharing about the PF App.

the first step told me to turn off the computer...
Simple. Easy. Powerful.

There are some flaky people out there on the buying and selling ends, that's for sure.

"I worked at several retail establishments during my high school and college days actually, including Britches"
Britches love discounts.
(Couldn't resist)
