I'm going through this same thing right now, I have a girlfriend who is married to a miser husband, she is a stay at home mom, he only pays the mortgage and cable, every month she relying on friends and family to keep the utilities and food in the house, I have loan money to cover the mortgage, pay gas, light and water, she's has borrowed 200.00 to 400.00. recently she borrowed 200.00 and is dodging paying me back, I'm a single mother with 5 children, I'm so angry right now I'm spitting nails, this friendship is done, I'm tired of feeling financially obligated while her deadbeat husband, treats her and their children like crap, I'm tired of getting angry, when she finally gets around to paying me back, I'm kicking her to the curb, I'm also tired of spending hrs listening to how her husband verbally and physically abuse her, I have been so drained in this friendship that I'm just exhausted of having my energy drained with her toxic, negative, dysfunctional life. I really need to figure out why I keep attracting these broke ass loser female friends who constantly want to borrow money to make ends meet argh!!!
My dream job would be something that I can do from home that would make good money and would allow me to utilize my talents to help others. I have not figured out what that is yet, but I am still looking. :) In the meantime, I am enjoying freelance writing and blogging greatly.
Well...I used to think my dream job would be one where I was in upper management, leading, coaching and moving the business in a positive direction. After being laid off, my whole life radically changed and so did my thoughts on a dream job. I currently work in an hourly position that requires no responsibility except to manage myself. I actually like this freedom and I would like to continue this but maybe in a company with Christian values and a goal to be a part of supporting God's kingdom and promoting the Gospel.
Right now it would be to be at home with my two small children (3 and 6). I truly wish I were a SAHM right now while they are little. When they get older, I'd love to run a candy shop (think fudge, truffles, etc). I love making that stuff and seeing other people eating the things I make. =)
I agree with the reasons you should have an emergency fund, but my biggest reason is to keep the roof over your head and food, electricity and food on the table, all other expenses, except life insurance, can be deferred a couple months or eliminated, until you get gainful employment.
Three months of living expenses is a nice start, but you should work toward 6-12 months of living expenses.
And I agree that some of the money should be liquid, such as three month's worth, in a savings account. But since interest rate's are almost nil in a savings account, put the rest of the money in a higher interest baring account like a CD, treasury bond or mutual fund.
My mom wasn't really into clothes or fashion and I think sometimes that was a great way to live, simple. She would not buy us name brand expensive shoes/clothes, but something similar, so we had the same great look without spending all of her money! As an adult, I have realized that not being stressed about being what is considered socially "perfect" is comforting!

My dream job would be somewhere near water. I can't imagine what I could do at the ocean, so I'll say pool girl. I could hand out towels!
I've used cereal boxes for quilt patterns for hand quilting. I trace a small section at a time when the quilt is on a floor frame.

I would love to open my own no kill animal shelter.
I would become an actress as I originally wanted to, until bills got in the way of my daily life.

My dream job is any job that lets me leave it at work and go out to live the rest of my life! :-)
