  • Baby Carrots: The Frugal Idea That Isn't   14 years 22 weeks ago

OK, interesting about the flavor. However, I think your article veers a bit towards preaching... against something that is actually healthy. From your tone I was waiting for a ghastly revelation about chemicals or other negative health impact. Since you have nothing terrifying to say about baby-cut carrots health-wise... don't guilt people for eating vegetables, for Pete's sake! Enjoy the flavor of the original, encourage others to try it, point out the price difference but that whole "only one minute to prep" thing is really aimed at single adults. Trust me, it would take me more than a minute to prep for my three kids, especially when I'm interrupted several times while attempting to clean and chop.

Love me some baby-cut carrots. And an extra minute of peace.

I am extremely motivated to save. Until I can live the dream and be my own boss, I am a corporate wage slave and must save as much as I can.

Wanting better for myself motivates me to save. I'm paying off my credit card and car loan debt now while saving 10% for retirement.

Motivation for saving? Mostly eventual retirement, and for emergency, whether it be unemployment or hospital bills or whatever.

I am motivated to save by my love for my family. Money is the key to freedom which is the key to having more time which will let me spend more time with my family. I am motivated to take care of my family and saving will help me do that.

I review it quarterly, spread out the three free ones a year to see one every four months and I also pay a subscription service that alerts me to any changes or things added on my report.

Seeing my parents struggle financially gets me to work harder saving. I dont ever want to have to rely on my kids to pay bills for me when they are grown.

Nagging friends, start a hobby, and indulging a pet are my favorites from your list (with my own little twist of course). Seriously, this downtime should be used to get rid of stress that can eventually cause health issues. Do-it-yourself spa day at home!

  • Budgeting for People Who Hate Planning   14 years 22 weeks ago

I love planning but for some reason I never created and followed a budget in my life. I guess that may be why I now have so much debt to pay off.

This past December I created by first budget using Excel. It's huge and includes all expenses, debts and income. What an eyeopener. I think the next step is to set some goals on tackling the debt and getting rid of it.

  • CitiMortgage Told Me to Default on My Loan   14 years 22 weeks ago

We also worked with Bank of America for 20 years. We were never late on one payment in 20 years and then my husband got laid off, but was collecting unemployment until he could find another job. As we all know unemployment only pays part of your pay check (don't get me wrong it was a blessing to get it). I called the bank for the next three or more months to explain our situation and asked if there was anything they could do to help us out. We just wanted them to reduce the payment a little or redo our loan. Their words to me were "The programs out there are not for people like you". I then asked what that meant and they said we were not behind on our mortgage and they only help people behind on their mortgages. They said they would not take my husbands unemployment as income as it is only temp. income. I called every week and talked to so many different people at Bank of America and the last one I talked to said very rudely that "we had better just move into an apartment because they were not going to help us." So my response to him was well then we are not going to be able to continue paying you so kiss my A!!!!!!. We put our house for sale as a short sale since we owed more then it was worth and sold it. We had the bank draft up a letter that we do not have to pay the difference of what was owed on it. It's really a shame that they will not help you when you have been a good customer and always paid on time. I feel for everyone who has to deal with the banks whether behind or not because they are not there to help you, we are living proof. Good luck to any out there in a bad situation and is asking for help, I hope you find some.......

What motivates me to save? The payoff, whether it is a planned vacation or the final payment on the home mortgage.
Working towards getting out of debt by 2014, then bumping up my 401k to the max.

I use clinique too. I'll have to try this out. I don't use rosehip oil, but i use pure vitamine E oil. I have sensitive skin and the acne cleansers/creams do more harm than good to my face. The Vit. E clears up my face beautifully! it's expensive, but it lasts forever. i've had mine for almost 3 years.

I save so I can retire without having to worry about not being able to do what I want. Also, I save because I hate throwing money away for stupid things.

I love to save up for trips and fun stuff. We only keep a minimum amount for an emergency savings because we try to make sure we don't have very many bills in the first place!

  • Making Money From Clinical Trials: Worth the Risk?   14 years 22 weeks ago

Well I participated in one because I really needed the money at the time. What was I supposed to do with bills lining up, job interviews not coming way, and etc. I really had no choice at that point. An opportunity presented itself and I got paid $3600 for a 21 day trial. I was well-fed (gained 6lbs!!!), able to chat with my fellow colleagues, watched tv and movies, room and board (air conditioning and everything) and brought my laptop to surf the free internet. The easiest $3600 I ever made (and tax free too). They checked your vitals everyday, constantly asked how you were feeling, and if there was slightest problem in your vitals they would have you checked out and send you to the hospital (which was down stairs). I would do it again if I ever found myself in that situation again and besides its for a good cause.

  • SaveUp Giving Away $1000 to Wise Bread Readers   14 years 22 weeks ago

What motivates me to save? I'm motivated by the ability to be financial secure in the future. Also, knowing I'm not spending money on things I don't need.

Several years ago, my cousin and his wife offered us a great deal: if we could afford the rest of the vacation, they'd provide the lodging for two weeks in Hawaii. Luckily, they'd given us a year's notice so we could get busy putting the money together. From that point on, saving became a real priority for us instead of just something we did when we had a little "extra" money. It inspired us to really look at how we could reduce our utility bills and grocery bills, not just to pay for a vacation, but to pay for our future.

I'm motivated to save for the feeling of security and the comfort of knowing that even though the roof just started leaking, it won't leave me broke or in debt because I have savings.

I'm unemployed so I'm not currently saving, although I don't spend a lot either.
When I was working, I put the maximum amount into my 401K including the additional money for being over age 50. Yes I had less money coming in, but at least it will be there when I am 59½ .
