What motivates me to save? I motivate myself to save from the lessons I've learned growing up with my family and my parent's own financial distress. I want to be able to pave the way for myself to have a more stable future once my student loans are paid off and setting aside goals for my retirement.
I am motivated to save to do fun things with my family (like vacations) so that I can enjoy them and not be worried about going into debt. I am also motivated to save so that "emergencies" don't bankrupt our family.
Roth IRA's are a fantastic way to save without risking big penalty's. I'd like to contribute to this post. Here is a quote from my post titled "ROTH IRA Basics" on ROTH IRA's.
"You can use your spouse's compensation subtract what they contribute to their IRA to qualify to make contributions to your own Roth IRA."
This means ROTH IRAs can be shared between spouses. If you were unemployed for an amount of time during the year but your spouse was working you could utilize their income to contribute to your ROTH IRA.
So what if the bottles are cute? Why are you beating down this company for putting out a superior product? I don't work for POM but I'm a product designer. I appreciate good marketing when I see it. Sometimes you need a gimmick to get your point accross to the public. I'm middle eastern and grew up eating pommegranate when I saw Pom putting it on the map here in the U.S, I thought more power to them.
I'm a spontaneous person, so the idea of not having the cash to do fun, last-minute things (road trips, concerts, weekend activities) kills me. I'm young and this is fine for now, but my motivation will need to change as I get older (and wiser haha).
Very intriguing and a great way of thinking. Spending time with kids, other family, or good friends at home is such a relaxing and joyful experience. Take the money saved by doing these the things here in this article that is otherwise being spent on the quick thrills and invest it in your future. Maybe there is a class that will help you get that extra raise? Maybe your retirement account just needs some nurturing?
Always nice articles coming from this place. I see play a board game on here but nothing about video games. There are some very nice games out there these days and some are starting to be much more movement oriented. WII Sports I think it is, is one example, the boxing one on there is great, not exactly accurate to every degree but it gets you moving and is pretty fun. They also have the WII fit game which is pretty fun for parents and kids.
My husband and I are motivated to save because of our goals. Our long term goal of paying our mortgage off early is our biggest motivator. For the little things, we save so that we can go on a trip to the UK this fall. Having a reason to say no to unnecessary expenses keeps things in perspective.
I hated the fact that my family had to borrow money when I was growing up just to have a roof over our heads and food on the table. I promised myself to do whatever was in my power to never be in that position again.
Guest,
If you use Turbo, you can max out the % to about 18-24%. When adding corn and sugar, the corn is just for taste, not sugar content. You have to malt the corn to convert it's starch to sugar.
If you are going to us Turbo, you should strip the first run. It will cut it down to about half. Then turn around, add water to bring it back up to the original volume. Now run it again, but slower. High % washes tend to get a smell and taste from the yeast. This will help reduce it. Do not let it sit on the trubs, the gook at the bottom, longer than it needs to.
They suggest you use 6 kg for 25 l of water to get 18%.
I am motivated to save because I lost my job in the Fall. I have since discovered Frugality, and the importance of being prepared for life's emergencies.
I am motivated to save because I know I am the only person who can make my American Dream come true. I rather save up for things that will last or create lasting memories and make work worth doing.
We make 130K plus, 24K off investments without even having to work on top of that and we decided to rent out our big fancy house in the city for a profit. Paid $300 for a mobile home on the lake fixed it and now buying a house in a safe TINY country town that is livable, new 8K A/c, real wood floors and over half an acre for $23K. We have 80K in 2 cars due to our previous lifestyle and you cant tell me that us living below our means isnt anything anyone in the USA couldnt do. We all make our life choices, I think cable is a waste of money, we shop at good will, we shop at Aldi, I do deals online and coupon because we value every dollar my husband earns for us. I do not work so my job is to get the most out of our money and save or invest it for our futures. We are 38 years old, now is the time when the kids are little to live below your means and get ahead so we are not 60 with a mortgage and not being able to find employment! Really I Know people suffering and we take far more drastic savings measures and living below our means then most people we know. Every day we all make life choices. I know a couple making over $600K one lost her job then 6 weeks later so did her husband. I am sorry but some people that make $25K, live below their means, without debt and can save and not loose everything at the loss of a job or illness have far more of my respect then people making 6 figures that blow their cash, live paycheck to paycheck and say its the economy and inflation. If I can hand wash dishes in a bathroom sink and make as much money as we do then so can anyone. Yes we do have 3 houses only one is big and fancy the others are works in progress with CASH :) and at least we have someone else paying the mortgage on the big one in the city while we profit off it as well.
Ever since we escaped from Vietnam - after 7 failed attempts - we've started from ground zero. Every single time my parents increased our quality of life by saving up. When we first came to the US we were at the mercy of the Red Cross and family. My Dad had created a very comfortable lifestyle in France, but believed in the chance of the American dream. Thus we started from scratch when we got to California. I remember as children we were tasked with grocery shopping with a calculator.
I've been a wise spender ever since I knew what money meant. I truly enjoy coupons and finding great deals before it was even trendy! I love to save money so that I can live comfortably and not be a victim of money nor materialism. I'd like to be independently wealthy so that when I go to church I can reach into my wallet and pull out a nice bill for the collection basket and not even have to think twice about it!
a man infront of me.. once took money out of the machine and left without the money.. when i wanted to put my card in the machine the money came out by me.
it was a big packet of money mabey 500 euro's or more. i had no money that month. but i still called the guy.. its the right thing to do.. it was just a horrible feeling holding that packet in my hand while i had nothing. anyway i keep on finding money these days.. i found 5 euro's again today so strange. i have found now in 3 months 40 euro's always in notes of five. ;) and i have a job now .. so everything is good :)
My plan motivates me. My plan is to save so I can invest, invest so I can get income. My investments in dividend-paying stocks are all now reinvested, so over time the dividends buy more shares. More shares means more dividends.
The long term goal is to have enough dividends to support myself. Since stock dividends pay higher rates than savings accounts, despite stock market volatility, and since I invest in well capitalized companies, I am doing well.
Two major reasons motivate me to save: 1) the lack of job security where I work and 2) the desire to retire early at the age of 60. Since financial security is a big part of the retirement equation for me, I want to have my house paid for so I can spend money on other things. Also since life is so unpredictable, it’s always nice to have money in the bank for the so called “rainy day” events.
My family motivates me to save. I try to teach my children to not be a slave to money, that it is a tool that is meant to enhance life and not make your life miserable. I believe in being frugal and making careful money choices but I never want to be seen as cheap and unwilling to part from it. My money choices, including saving, are about creating and having a balance. We can have the things we like but in order to do so we sometimes need to wait. I am presently saving for a mini vacation, flooring and working towards paying off our truck.
I am motivated to save because 1) I never want to be a slave to debt 2) I am working to put my husband through college 3) I have a dream to buy a little cottage in the woods to call home. :)
I sell meat off a truck and can shed some light on this. Selling meat off a truck is an industry that has been around for over 50 years. There are several large companies that have offices nationwide, there are also independent sellers, and some shady companies. The thing to ask for when a person is selling meat is their Department of Agriculture license. If they can't show you that, then pass up on it. I had to laugh a little when I read the comment about "why not advertise it or have a store". The REASON we are able to sell it so cheap is because we don't incur the costs associated with advertising and a retail space. Most mobile meat companies will be selling a variety pack with over $400 worth of meat in retail pricing, but able to get it to you for $150-$199. Meat salesmen build a client base, so they are concerned with high quality meat and a good relationship. It is important to ask the rep how long they have been doing it. If they have been selling for over 6 months, then they know what they are doing. If people are rude to customers, they probably won't last 6 weeks.
We don't put up with ANY rude comments at our office. Engaging in such an unprofessional manner is grounds for immediate dismissal.
As far as worries about old meat, there is little worry there. Companies that have trucks move meat constantly, and empty the freezer and replace with a new shipment every week. Keeping meat coming fast enough is our biggest problem. Companies that would be sitting on meat, don't have salesmen out selling. Besides, the packing date is listed on the side of the box of all USDA meats. To find the packing date, look on the side of the box and you will see something like "PD011512". That meas "packing date January 15th 2012.
If you are buying off a truck, the packing date will most likely be in less than two weeks from the day they show up. Also, consumers have a 3 day right of rescission. If you purchase meat...try it right away. If you don't like it, call to return it for a refund. If they don't comply, contact their city and complain. They will comply rather than lose their licencing.
Regardless...if you passed up on meat off of a truck, you probably missed out on a good deal.
After the last time I lost my job (layoffs suck) I realized that having an emergency fund was a key to our survival. When I got my next job, I started saving money faster. I also have a number of goals I want to do, so money in savings will help that. Financial freedom!

I am motivated to save money by the prospect of not having monthly payments. I dislike financing things!

You're missing out - zucchini on pizza (or in a calzone), esp. if its been sauteed quickly with garlic and olive oil, is freaking delicious!
