We check ours about once a year. We're out of debt, except for the house, and don't have a lot to follow--except making sure someone hasn't been stealing our identity or something.
MONTHLY!!!
It's been clean for 2 years now, but it was a horrible mess when I came back from overseas - all kinds of stuff on it that didn't belong to me and one heck of a fight to get it cleaned up! I was told it could revert anytime someone who was once on my credit report had problems again too - so I keep an eye on it.
One great suggestion I saw on how to spot the difference between a 'cheap' and a 'frugal' person is to watch how they tip. Frugal people tip well, for pretty much the reason you gave above; they understand the relationship between time and money, and understand that the waitstaff are giving up their time.
Cheap people tip lousy, because they just don't see why they should give up more money than they're required to.
Guest,
Do you want good clear alcohol or moonshine? Both recipes are here, in the discussions. Pure corn requires some type malt to convert the starches. There is no way around it. If you have whole corn, malt it yourself.. It will be a mess when you are done and 5 gallon fermenter will only give you about 3 gallons of wash.
Take corn, soak in water an hour. Spread out in a warm area and cover with plastic. It will sprout. Once the kernel pops open and you see a small sprout, dry it out. A WARM oven will work well. Way less then 100 C. As soon as it is dry enough to not mush like fresh corn, flatten with the back of a ban. Now you have malted corn.
The weight is heavier then the recipes for mash, so know what you weighed before malting. Use any recipe we have given, or just fill a bucket 1/3 full or corn and the rest water. Yeast it here and wait.
You can enhance it with some sugar, but then it is not true moonshine. If you are willing to use sugar, just take dry, cracked corn, add sugar and water. There are recipes here for that, too. The corn is a flavour only in that recipe. If you want pure alcohol, just do straight sugar and water. You will be fine. Good luck.
I buy Nudies - they're great because they offer a lifetime repair warranty, so if you get a hole in your jeans, they store you got them from will send the jeans back to the factory to be repaired for free.
They are slightly exy at $200 for a pair, but in Australia that's what you pay for quality.
Why is there so much nastiness on this comment thread? There are a lot of really great questions and some excellent nuggets of advice, both in the original column and the comment thread, but the biting jabs on grammar or ripping into people is unproductive and more suitable to a sports article.
The grilled cheese/panini/quesadilla station was my favorite idea from this article. A cheap superbowl meal that my family always did was hot dogs and sauerkraut and hot dogs - a relatively cheap meal that's ultra filling!
These tips are wonderful. The TV is by far my biggest time waster. It's so easy to just turn on the television and next thing you know you've just wasted a couple hours watching nonsense.
Number 5 is my personal favorite, and the one on which I find myself spending my "extra" $25. On my paydays, I hit up the grocery store for the things about to expire- it's a great way to spend that money!
I agree being frugal in these days is a must, besides being frugal isnt really a bad thing. Couples can live a happy and romantic lifestyle while at the same time being frugal.
Romance is about where you go and what you buy but its about the things you do to show your affection.
You know, I have had more than one friend swear by Lysine. I have never gotten the slightest bit of help from it - if anything, it has actually lengthened the duration of my cold sores. That said, I've definitely gotten enough anecdotal evidence that it works for some people.
I have also been mystery shopping for a number of years as a job on the side- mostly for fun, I could never make a living out of it.
BARE International is another one for shoppers to look out for- in one recent shop they were extremely nit-picky and negative about my shop log (I covered everything, checked spelling and grammar and was truthful); claiming a receipt jpg was the wrong size or cut off and not able to be read and not allowing a resubmission (it had looked fine to me and was within the posted guidelines); or asking me to redo a shop (for free) when the CSR failed the shop so (I assume) that they can give the results their customer wants to see and then claiming they never asked me to redo the shop (even though I have the email!) and therefore they would not pay.
I am very highly rated with every other company I have done shops for, so all this has come as a big surprise to me. Once- maybe a fluke. Twice- new guy? maybe? or a misunderstanding? But three and four times? Not cool and probably a scam.
While this list has lots of great ideas, I'd look into the sun tea thing more. Yes, very possible and great in theory. BUT, sun tea is known for being LOADED with bad bacteria that can make you sick. I've seen more than one official report with proof on that. If you're of the mindset, "I've never gotten sick before," fine, go for it. If you end up sick on your trip because of it, you'll certainly regret it- and you know what a snot Murphy's Law can be... Otherwise, thanx for the tips - you had plenty of ideas I hadn't thought of myself. =)
THANK YOU SO MUCH! You are so helpful. One last thing...
How do I make the moonshine with a 5 gallon jug?
I have never made this before and I'm dying to learn.
I have turbo yeast, sugar, a hydrometer, air lock, still.
I just need a recipe for the mash and I cannot find one anywhere! Omg so frustrating. Everything is with malt and corn meal. I just want pure clear moonshine.
I too was plagued with cold sores from the time I could crawl. I found that stress and my monthly period would bring them on, as well as cherry tomatoes and the sun. I used to get one or two every two months, lasting 10 days to 2 weeks. As soon as it healed, I often was "blessed" with a second one. By then a month had gone by. The next month it would start over again. I tried anything and everything, but nothing seemed to work. Then in 1985, a friend told me to try Lysine. He said there were studies done that seemed to suggest that Lysine could prevent outbreaks. I decided what have I got to lose, although I was sure it wouldn't work. Well, guess what? It did! Today, I remain mostly cold sore free. This is how I did it: I started out taking one tablet of 500 milligrams each day. It took a few months of consistently taking it before I realized that I was no longer getting cold sores. About 10 years later, I started breaking out again, so I upped the dose to 1000 milligrams. That seemed to work and for the last 15 or so years, that dose has worked for me. One of the things I learned along the way is you have to be consistent with taking it every single day. At times, I would run out or be too lazy to take my lysine, and guess what? In a couple of days, I got a cold sore. Now, I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but it sure worked for me.
Great post! The obligatory tasks part, or just obligating myself to something creative like a craft show with a definite time & place has been huge for me. I've never been very disciplined with my creativity so a tight, externally-imposed frame within which to work juices me like an orange and more often than not I'm really pleased with what I show I'm capable of! That positive self-reinforcement builds up over time too so your spirits lift and when you are confident, creating can be that much easier.
I saw the count go up and searched the older post for a new comment.
How to make Peach Moonshine. It is macerated fruit, bottom line. You take strong shine or everclear, and soak fruit in it. Canned is not good enough. Do not use bad fruit. If it is not sweet or 'peachy', it will not carry over well. They say not to use the pit, not sure if its true, but its safer to remove. Clean and pit the peaches in halves. Fill a jar and cover with moonshine. Let it sit for a few weeks or months. Strain it well. Add some sugar to the peaches to pull the alcohol out. Add the liquid to the first batch of strained alcohol. You can do this a few times. Keep straining before you add it to the alcohol so you wont have anything floating. When you are done, it will be a little to sweet. Add distilled water to taste. You can bring it down from 151 or 160 to about 100 and still have something great to drink.
Blackberry is amazing. Apple pie is a real popular drink as well. They tend to cut it to 80-90 proof.

I agree with all 7 points you make!
Frugality is a choice for me - I know many people that should be frugal but are not! I enjoy being frugal - it is definately a choice I make.

And be sure to buy American made jeans and clothing. Good quality and a fair price.
