The place was a huge success and then this corp came in and didn't even give anyone training on their software. Just DO IT. Naturally the pressure was on and the smiles were gone from everyone walking on edge. We knew they would dump us one at a time anyway. I loved the job before they took over. Was there five years. Happy to be free.
I agree to that. Nowadays, no one is stopping us except of the fear of disappointment, fear of rejection. I like what you said, "broaden skills". And I've been planning to take up a short course I really like, one that I enjoyed doing when I was a kid.
I don't because I am a stay at home mom now. I used to a lot (worked in Human Resources and attended a lot of job fairs). I always keep a handful of my husbands to enter into drawings for a free lunch.
I used business cards a couple of years ago, merely for novelty's sake - giving them to new friends and so on. (I'd gotten them for free from VistaPrint lol) I don't use them at all now because, well, networking and getting contacts in the industry is kind of useless when you have a dead-end warehouse job. :(
More and more people are being aware of cheaper generics. I have a friend when who jumping up and down to learn that lipitor will be available in generic form soon.
Yes, I used business cards when I go to professional conferences, in order to give people my contact information and to keep my name in their thoughts - if only for a bit - should a job opportunity come around that might work for me.
Andrea ... you are amazing! I am charming and love it. I also don't think that it is something one is born with but definitely something I took time to cultivate. There is definitely a power aspect to it and it's helped me get connections to opportunities that I would have never imagined. It is definitely about putting others first and while the idea of that may suck to some, the truth of the matter is that whatever you give of yourself in life, somehow, you will get in return. Without taxation you would likely not be earning a pay check at all. The roads your drive on to get to work, the education system that you likely benefited from, the economic infrastructure, the internet that you used to respond this this article (the gov founded the internet) - all the direct result of tax dollars at work.

I don't network very much and my business doesn't supply business cards except for the highest level of personnel, so I don't have any :(.

Absolutely! I love handing out business cards, they have each have a unique photo on the back so the people can get a taste of my work.
