My favorite Thanksgiving comfort food is mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing all made by my mom. Doesn't matter how many times I've watched her make it, I can't duplicate the flavors.
What I love about my job is EVERYTHING! I have a great boss who understands taking time off for kids, family etc. The women I work with are great and we are friends and we have a great time at work.
I've always believed this deep down, but I've heard in numerous workshops about effort as if it reigns supreme & down playing a results emphasis. Thanks for snapping me back to reality
Some of your ideas are great, but I have been a substitute teacher, and it is not the substantial paycheck that you might think. As in, you make roughly $65-70 a day, before taxes, which take about 25% off the top. Granted, I taught about 13 years ago, but I have friends who still sub and the pay is within $5 of what is was then. If you have to have child care for the same time that you work, you will spend about as much in child care than you will make in a day. Better to find something where you can truly stay at home.
My first job -- wife, mom, and homemaker. I LOVE my job. I stay home and school my 2 children, who are wonderful. I get to spend so much time with them, we have a very close relationship, and there are so many things you can do and places you can go as a homeschooling family. (and the hugs are magnificent!) The cleaning part of homemaker is not my favorite by it allows me to do...
...My second job -- small business owner, okay, tiny business owner. I love being creative and Struck My Fancy gives me the outlet to do so. It is fun to see how beads I make with my hands give such joy to others. I love the medium I work with, polymer clay, and little bit of extra money made is great for special projects. (Last year, I took my son to Dallas to visit a friend and my daughter to Chicago to explore the big city for 4 days. Awesome.)
Really, for me it is the best of both worlds. Practicality and Creativity working side by side. LOVE it!
The thing I love most is that I am the only person in my department so I am largely in control of how I spend my time. As a graphic designer, there are days I'm not feeling particularly creative from 9-5, so being able to work at night or on weekends is great.
I have the absolute best job in the world. I am a Broadway usher. I get to see great Broadway plays and I can see them often. I get to meet people who are motivated about the theater. Many of my colleagues are focused actors who are talented and supportive of each other. Sometimes we meet the cast or run into them in the theater. It's such a thrill to be part of the excitement of Broadway. If you care to hear it, I'll tell you How I came to this job.
Brace yourself - this is going to sound corny but .... I love the people I work with. Even the challenging curmudgeons. The mix of personalities makes this place what it is. I like the work I do (mostly writing-based) and the work the firm does (what I write about).
Having been a substitute teacher, I can attest to the attractive pay check of teaching versus something like retail or food services. However, most of the time you get very little notice of where you are going and what you are doing. You might, for instance, get a call to work at 7:00 or 7:30 am when school starts at 8:45-9:00 (and you need time to prep your classes, yard duty, etc.) You'll need to find child care at very very short notice, not to mention constantly disrupting your child's morning routine.
It's doable if you've got the resources, but you'll really work for that payout! Somedays go well, while others are pure torture. (Remember how your classes tormented substitute teachers? Yeah, that will be you!) The bonus is that you'll always have weekends, evenings and holidays off with your kids, and you won't be trying to juggle a side business with kids around the house.
There is no mention of 'the other' debt.
The debt none of us created, yet pay a substantial amount toward.
It is the debt created by our governments, which taxation is raised to pay off.
Not only must we strive to pay off our personal debts, but those of an unaccountable group of overseers who have lavishly gone to town on a global domination expansion well beyond the insignificant debts we all, at some point, have to sign up to to survive.
These are really wonderful ideas. I've heard nothing but good things about Etsy. Becoming a notary is a good one too. I also think it's great to start a blog. It's great to make money from home.

My favorite Thanksgiving budget dish is my mashed potato recipe "Heart Attack Mashed Potatoes." The secret ingredient is lots of butter and condensed milk. Potatoes are inexpensive and I usually make a lot of mashed potatoes so we have lots of leftovers to send home with family as mashed potatoes are so easy to heat up in the microwave for leftovers the next day.
What a Yummy giveaway!! My favorite Thanksgiving dish is actually Mashed Potatoes and Gravy mixed with Corn. Of course a good Stuffing is always delicious too! Thanks for the opportunity!

I like the flexibility of my work schedule. If I want a certain shift covered, I can easily swap with a co-worker. My co-workers are awesome, too!
