I like what you've put together here Henri. When it comes to fear it is key to use it as the motivator that it can be when we don't allow ourselves to be paralyzed. We also should use it to analize ourselves. Why are we reacting with fear? Are there logical reasons (I could get killed) or are they really attributed to irrational beliefs? Quick example; 6 years ago, like many other people, I was petrified of public speaking. However, there was a voice, an urge inside me telling me that this was my destiny. I've since become an accomplished public speaker and find it one of my greatest passions. Many times, in order to realize our greatness, we need to break through our fears. No, it's not easy but oh so worth it. The key is that we need to make our desire, our passion, bigger than our fear. Thanks again.

NOW, HE IS A LITTLE CONCERNED AFTER READING ALL THIS ABOUT STOLEN CREDIT CARDS. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IF ITS TRUE?
WAS ANYONE CONTACTED BY APPLE OR A BANK THAT ISSUED THE CC?
THANK YOU FOR ANY INFORMATION
AND BEWARE OF THIS FRAUDS.
Yes, I believe it is overcommercialized! While it's nice that adults have a reminder to celebrate their relationships, including family and friends and significant others, it does create tension and overly high expectations. And all the kiddo junk retails push is crazy!
Sure everything has the potential to get overcommercialized if you let it. My husband started making me a 'valentine' sculpture about 5 years ago. Now every year I get another piece for my collection. I don't know how he pulls it off each year but it is nice to know he is thinking of me and putting time into something special.
This blows my mind. No insulting, just how expensive certain regions can be. My wife and I have two children, and we do very well on 40K a year. It is crazy how expensive some parts of the country. In our parts, a six figure income is still doing very well
Thank YOU, Amy. I have a hard time just picking one of your articles when I want to include good posts. You have turned me into a hopeful homemaker once again (which I didn't think was possible for awhile.) And your solutions never involve digging into my savings account!
Mrs. Money, that's very flattering! I still keep my eye on your blog, too! When green is simple for people, they're most likely to try. I appreciate that you communicate this message in your posts :)
I spend so much time daydreaming. I think of ways I can improve my quality of life every day! I'm working towards living my dreams, and I tell you; nothing better than that!
I've been a huge fan of Papa Murphys my entire life. I've been going there for pizza whenever I get it (except for when I'm in a hurry or have a big party, then its Little Caesars) and I've always been extremely pleased with prices and customer service. But, it may be that I use coupons that the prices don't seem bad. But even without them, they're still the same or less than Pizza Hut and Dominos, and it tastes just as good. Maybe it's just where you live, and the particular one you went to?
And @Connie - if your system works for you, then it's a good one. Using separate bank accounts to compartmentalize your spending needs is viable - as long as you don't pay a monthly fee for each of the accounts, and as long as you stay on top of bank balances and don't go into overdraft on any of them.
I always wondered where some of these traditions came from and when asking the "elders" of the family always got some very vague answer. Now I know. Happy Chinese New Year Xin!
Great post! You've outlined some integral keys to success Henri. I agree with you, completely, on what you've stated about taking action. More often than not, most people might sit on a great idea for literally years before being forced to take action by an unfortunate experience.
In my personal experience, I always try to push myself to get started and take the proverbial "leap of faith" that is necessary to become a mover and shaker in this world. I feel that the only thing that separates a successful person from a person not doing so well, is the successful person's ability to step out on pure self-motivation. Thoughts anyone?
i'm looking into boarding schools as a possible last 2 years of high school for me, and most everything i've read seems to me like its worth it. all my life up to 10th grade i've been in the public system...and sadly im just not challenged. it really bothers me that i have to, im not sure how to say this, uhm, tone down my learing attitude? well my usual class size can range from 20-30 kids per class and im not with equal minded kids who WANT to learn. I've brought it up to my parents before but they say it isnt worth the cost to them. i have a sizable dowry to pay for my education, but my parents dont want to spend it on boarding school, they say the payoff isnt worth it. the way i see it though is, if i can get financial aid for the boarding school than i should have at least a little left, and with the experience yadda yadda knowledge, etc i expect to get at a boarding school than that should lend me to a better scholarship than if i just went public the whole way and not have too many loans to worry about in the future....at least thats what i hope will happen. i know that simply attending some prestigous school wont gurantee me a free ride, but i think its worth the risk. my parents are, ironically enough, pressuring me to pursue the arts, which doesnt pay very well in my eyes, and i want to be more than just some no name penniless artist working painting to painting. it really is ironic. as a student wanting to attend a private boarding school do you all have any ideas to really getting my parents to understand why i want to do this?
although my older brother got kicked out of a local private school, so they may have more convictions than the average parent.....
Guys - this is a scam. No one can guarantee you any modification, it's based off income. There is no such thing as a principal write off, only a principal 5 year forbearance or a hope 4 homeowners program. There is NO cost for a loan mod., and any upfront fee IS a scam. CALL 888-995-HOPE, a non-profit HUD-certified hotline who can conference call with your lender.
My mom taught me a trick that works wonderful. Take your metal grill grates and put them in a plastic garbage bag with enough amonia so it will soak (do not fill the bag as the fumes will work too). Tie the garbage bag shut and leave outside in the backyard in the sun. After a few days all the grease etc will be eaten off the metal.*****Please do not leave where small children or animals can get into******Now to get the shiny surface back, take something deep enough to totally soak your grill plates in. Fill with cooking oil so the grates are totally covered. Let soak a day or two. Use mild steel wool to scrub the rust off the grates. Put the grates back on the grill, burn off the oil on hight for 5 - 10 minutes. Your grates will be like brand new......No more throwing away grills because the grates are rusty. If by chance this does not work....your grill grates are a cheap metal and not stainless steel.
Definitely too commercialized.
I like having a day to focus on romance - it's easy to get lost in the business of life and not think about it, but I don't think romance equates with spending money on candy, flowers, or jewelry. And my hubby knows that I don't really want those things, I want time, attention, sweet nothings, a nice dinner at home. He wants that too, so we do valentines day, but we do it our way.
We're going to be spending a lot of time taking a closer look at credit cards over the next few weeks on LifeTuner.
Here are some additional tips about what to look for in the fine print of credit card offers: http://www.lifetuner.org/blog/242-fine_print_understanding_a_credit_card...

Don't keep red wine in the fridge, for goodness sakes.

Years ago I had a fire extinguisher I had cut the top off of. This unit had an aluminum label with a cinch piece, so it both opened and closed easily.
I kept it mounted in an out-of-the-way place and 'real' extinguishers in more accessible and appropriate locations.
It was not fire proof at all but 'out-of-sight-.......'.
