Nice quiz, lots of reminders of those things you should be paying attention to! Doesn't hurt that it claims I'm a budget master either... ;)

  • Ask the Readers: Is Valentine's Day Too Commercial? (Chance to win $20!)   16 years 10 weeks ago

Depends on the definition of commercial. I think that simple is sweet, and if it includes a small box of chocolates, or roses, then that's good.

What I think plays into the valentines day is what people's love language is. If it's gifts, then they're going to be indulgent and give gifts.

I love how you broke things down into sections for easy reading.

Most people don't have budgets and yet wonder where their money is going. They try to save money in all the wrong places because they don't have a map telling them where the problems are.

At Smarterfutures.com we help people daily plan a flexible budget. Then examine it so they can get a closer look at the real problem areas.

In reading these posts, I am almost positive that all of you that received this card completed some type of application on the internet, which prompted them to send the information to Netspend.

Yes, its true that you didn't apply for the card with Netspend, but you authorized some company to giver your information to other companies.

  • How to Make Moonshine   16 years 10 weeks ago

For those out there with one, that were disappointed that it had no use for making a still, I have an idea.

Was doing some research on old still evolution. Seems they moved to a steam still later on. It gets hot faster.

Here is the setup: Have a stainless pot for the still. You will need the head to come off just as before. The only difference would be the heat source. Instead of fire underneath, you will jet in steam. Steam can reach very high temps.

Start with an aluminum pressure cooker. Leave the safety plug in. for the rocker part, take it off and put in a fitting. This is the supply line for steam to the pot. It would not hurt to have a pressure gauge tapped into the lid. Watch the pressure to match what the weight would allow from the original set up of the cooker. The steam will run off thru a copper line and go into the pot, to the bottom of the mash. Have a coil with lots of holes drilled in it, on the bottom. Crimp the end of the coil, but not all the way. Small holes would be good. You do not have to strain out your mash; it won’t be scorched this way. You can ferment in the same pot you distill in. If you are using an open fire, you can be far away from the still and reduce fire hazards. The steam is hotter then just heating the pot, so the heat and bubbles will strip the alcohol right from the first bubble.

It may look odd, but I think this could solve many issues at one time.

  • 5 Simple Ways to Find Your Passion   16 years 10 weeks ago

I actually do agree with you disagreeing with me. I've just started coaching myself and have started to realize that it's tough to accept fear.

I have nowhere near the experience you have, so I might be totally off, but that's fine with me.

Those that don't want to accept and overcome fear, I don't know if I am the right person to get them to the point where they want that.

I want to work with the people that have experienced who have experienced that "I'm so sick of the alternative" as Richard Bandler puts it. The straw that broke the camel's back.

In summary though, I do agree with you Tim, but I also agree with myself ;)

  • FINANCIAL IQ TEST: How Healthy Is Your Budget?   16 years 10 weeks ago

I handle my budgeting a lot different. I am definitely a non rules person. What I do is transfer the amount I can spend into a checking account and then use my debit card for everything. I have different accounts that all help with the budget.

    - The savings account automatically gets the savings amount transfered to it on payday, same with the charity account and the tax account

    - The utilities account automatically gets the amount for the month (including the saving up things) on payday,

    - The hubbies account gets 100 a month for his spend money

    - The main account is the mortgage and checking account. It is rarely used except for the mortgage coming out of it and a few checks a month

Everything is as smooth as silk except my hubby doesn't get paid a regular amount. It messes everything up. We try and put all his money into savings or into a major purchase fund.

    Hey Henri
I really like how you have broken down some steps to finding your passion here. Spot on. You have to try, keep trying, be persistent and be willing to fail.

  • 5 Simple Ways to Find Your Passion   16 years 11 weeks ago

Man I have to take a massive exception to your belief that it's 'easy' for people to accept fear. I read this over and over again on blogs, and you know what, it's NEVER from people that coach or counsel others for a living.

Letting go of and even accepting fear is probably THE most difficult thing a human being has to do and that's why 99.99% of people never master it.

  • Ask the Readers: Is Valentine's Day Too Commercial? (Chance to win $20!)   16 years 11 weeks ago

Growing up, I came from a poor family with 4 children. There wasn't the extra money to spend a lot on Valentines gifts. We knew we were loved and we didn't need a bunch of cards, candy and balloons.

Now, that I've been married for almost 14 years and have 3 children of my own, I wonder why Feb 14th is any more special than Feb 13th or say Aug.14th.
Truth is, we should show our love for those near to us every day of the year. I am in a position to spend more money on my children than my parents were many years ago, but the lessons that I learned from them, I'd like for my children to learn.
Money doesn't buy happiness or love.
Love is something that comes from the heart and needs to be shown daily and even hourly in our thoughts and actions toward each other.

A kind word, a genuine smile, a helping hand shows love around my house.

I'm proud of my husband who serves our country in the US Army, he shows his love to me in many ways. He provides for us and allows me to stay at home with our children. He brings me special gifts occasionally and when he does, I know it is because he loves me and not because of a date on a Calendar.

  • Do What You Love: Idealistic Nonsense Or Good Advice?   16 years 11 weeks ago

I don't know what this means in relation to this post and comments, but the best job I ever had was as a house cleaner for an agency. The homeowners I cleaned for appreciated what I did for them and my time off was all my own. Even my work time was my own, because my hands were busy, but my mind was free. And I loved that!

Now I am working 10 hour days thinking about things I hate and even when I get home, I can't turn off the "work" in my brain. But to make any less money at this point is not an option for me at all. I have two teens, a roommate with three daughters and five pets and a mortgage that all depend on my income to remain the same or higher.

My only way out at this point is to somehow get totally ninja with my personal finances in the hope of funding something (anything) that might make me happier. That seems to be easier said than done, given the time and energy that is getting sucked into my sucky job.

  • Ask the Readers: Is Valentine's Day Too Commercial? (Chance to win $20!)   16 years 11 weeks ago

The first year we were married, my husband expressed his objection to being instructed to express his affection for me. No Valentine's Day festivity. Thirteen years later, I have gently requested to reinstate the celebration. This year: a date on the festive weekend.

My kids are old enough to celebrate, and we concoct homemade valentines for friends and family. It's (mostly) fun and gives the kids a chance to think about the people they care about. That's definitely good.
