$0. I cut my own hair (long) hair into layers (via upside-down ponytail) once a year, trim my own nails, don't dye/perm/straighten anything, and never use hairspray. I'm 40 and my hair looks like it did when I was 20, probably because I don't put crap in my hair.
We have a puppy 7 months and spend about $50 a month on training and food. We also have a lizard that we rescued from Trader Joe's (he came in on the boxes of oranges). We go hunting in our backyard for spiders, crickets and grasshoppers to feed him so he has no cost :)
So your going to out and buy a house or car with no credit score? it is true that gaining debt is bad but if you have good habits (which would bring you over the 800 mark) you will never pay interest or very little interest by paying off your bill each month. Over the last 7 years I've paid 0 interest and probably got at least $800 worth of rewards. And I wouldn't have got my main reward card with out at least a 700 score
Our wedding cost about the same. We took a week vacation for our honeymoon. We never left the house or put on clothes unless the pizza delivery guy knocked on the door. You don't have to spend a lot of money to have fun, sometimes you don't have to spend any.
I agree with all of this, and have calculated value for years, except with my house. At first, I did this then freaked about how much it was costing me (my family) to live per day. but then I thought about it a bit more. 1. It is so much more than cost per day (and be sure to include utilities). It determines where my kid goes to school. It determines most likely what I'll pay for gas, and how much gas I will use (to get around to where I need/want to go). It determines what my insurance rate will be. It determines, most likely, who my kids will be friends with, and opportunities afforded to them.
Great ideas! I'm saving your article, even though the foraged items aren't available near us. (Who knows where we may end up?) We do have an abundance of dandelion and wild violet in the spring. They make lovely sweet wines and jellies.
Great ideas! As my son has five other roomies in his apartment, a dozen cookies isn't enough. But as mid terms approach it looks like a good time to send a package!
I don't have a pet now, but I had one when I was a kid. I had a dog and would like to have one again . Yes, pets are expensive but you could never repay what you get back in unconditional love.

Why pay $5 at the movie theater for your Mike & Ike or Whoppers fix?
Money cannot buy peace of mind. It cannot heal ruptured relationships, or build meaning into a life that has none. ~Richard M. DeVos

I have six dogs, two cats, a bird and a turtle. Only one dog was purchased. The others were other "dumps" or I found them in the middle of a road.
I can't live without my pets. They make life SO much more enjoyable and yes, they're worth the trouble - ten times over.
