  • 12 Everyday Money Tasks You've Been Doing Wrong   9 years 31 weeks ago

I'll admit I still write checks for a few thing, but I can't remember the last time I actually balanced a check book formally. But, yes, I agree they are antiquated for most purchases. Also I can't tell you how many people I know still think "retail therapy" is a real thing. :-/

    Great post!

  • 9 Questions You Should Ask Before Hiring a Robo-Adviser   9 years 31 weeks ago

Regarding the section about robo advisor fees, here are the facts about Schwab Intelligent Portfolios. Schwab only selects the lowest cost ETFs in each asset class. The average expense ratio for Schwab’s portfolios range from 0.08% for a conservative portfolio, 0.19% for a moderate portfolio, and 0.24% for an aggressive portfolio. And because we don’t charge any advisory fee, commissions, or account fees, that’s all an investor pays, so it’s a very low cost.

  • Horizon Organic Milk: Is it All Just Lies?   9 years 31 weeks ago

Do you have any idea what organic farmers have to go through to be certified? Sounds like you need to do a bit more research!
I am an organic farmer, I do not ship our products to Horizon, but another large organic company! There is more inspections and paper work and records involved to be certified. How dare you say organic are the same as other products just more expensive. You obviously have no idea what it means to eat organic food.

Don't buy the kids so many toys - save the money instead! Really, most of that stuff just cluttered the house and then was sold at yard sales. What a nice little investment account and cleaner house we would have now if I had only known how unimportant that junk was. Still dealing with the kiddie stuff and wishing I had started investing sooner.

  • Self-Employed? Here's How to Get Your Apartment Application Approved   9 years 31 weeks ago

I think due to the development of the technologies there is no need of hiring the real estate agent anymore. There are a bunch of sites, where you can find property which will suit your criteria. Some of this real estate portals, like Rentberry, for example, provide tenants with everything they need. A renter can fill out an application, run credit report and background check, e-sign the contract with his landlord. So, now it's possible to rent a property without real estate professional.

  • What NOT to Buy at a Farmers Market   9 years 31 weeks ago

Many farmers markets, including both of the markets my family belongs to, are producer-only markets. This means that vendors can only sell what they, themselves, produced. So, there's no buying and reselling – everything was grown or produced locally. I would argue, also, that baked goods are great from the farmers market. My husband has a store, but he works very long hours all day Friday to bake items for the market the following morning. There's no selling old breads for him, and, frankly, it's a little insulting that someone would imply that.

When I was in my 20's, I would have told myself to lay off being so many tech items! I don't need a new iPod when my current one is still working just fine. I should have put the money aside!

Max, you inspire me all the time. Even stuff you wrote years ago still pops up in my feed or in my memory. I have developed a new saying for when I am going to try and be more like you while doing something: "I'm gonna Max Wong this sh**!" The whole family "knows" you--and they even say it now. • The 5 Best Power Banks   9 years 31 weeks ago

I bought many portable chargers and they all start to fade away and don't hold up as much power compared to when I first bought it. Maybe these other brands might be better I will have to give them a try. However, ill suggest the Powergo ss 5000 from techgetgo.com Its not put on the list here surprisingly. I have owned this product for about a little over 4 months now and I must say its my new must have portable charger. Its recharges so much more faster then the previous power banks I owned. It recharges itself so quick that I can feel its like 15 times faster charge speeds then any other portable chargers I have owned including my new Qualcomm Q.C. 3.0 portable charger I also bought from amazon to give it a try. the power bank pretty much finished charging itself in like under 15 minutes. When I use it to recharge my iPhone it recharges not as fast but I can tell it charges much faster then my wall charger. I would have to recommend the powergo ss 5000 to anyone who wants a really quick charging power bank.

I wasn't really offended as I got her humorous intent. It is a little jarring, though, when someone is talking to you and then makes a statement that clearly indicates they were not talking to you, KWIM? Like when a male presenter jokes to a co-ed audience, "Oh, remember how nervous *you* were the first time *you* tried to ask a *girl* out?" or something to that effect - there may not be anything wrong with the statement itself, but if you're a straight female and in that audience, it's like he's talking about you, to everyone else but you, even though you're RIGHT THERE.

Hear, hear. My parents are Indian and I always scratch my head when I read blogs talking about y'know, that strange Indian food that everyone should really try. I mean, I ate it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for most of my life, as did most of my Queens, New York co-workers...!
