If I have a notebook without a pocket page, I use light weight cardboard and DT to make one.
Cut the cardboard to desired height of pocket (I find that 1/4 height of the notebook is best), and cut width to about an inch thiner than the width of the notebook. Lay the prepared cardboard against the sturdy front or back cover of the notebook. Place the bottom edge about 1/2 inch away from the bottom edge of the cover, and center the width. Cut 3 strips of DT -sized to match the bottom and each of the 2 sides of the prepared cardboard. While holding the cardboard inplace, neatly and carefully stick the tape-edge along the edges of the sides and bottom of notebook. Then press the other edge of the tape onto the cardboard. You may want to re-inforce each side of the pocket opening with a small piece of DT placed diagonally.
One problem with this Chris is that the postman doesn't always put your post into the letter box properly, so you have your bills and letters hanging out the slot.
Phil,
Good post! One way to deal with extended Periods of low returns is to drastically reduce spending in those years. Maybe go live in Thailand for a few years or something like that.
I will definitely be voting in this election. In other countries, people risk their lives in order to be able to cast a ballot. I'd better not ever take this freedom for granted.
I normally would have, but I just moved and didn't register to vote here until it was too late for this ballot. Next year for sure though, and I usually do!
you didn't mention my favorite: www.BargainBookMole.org: it's way faster than the most popular price-checking websites for books; also has free browser add-ons that let you ck prices for used and new books quickly and easily on the fly, from any website.
Note that the 5% used by endowments/foundations is actually the minimum required to be distributed under the Internal Revenue Code. If they fall beneath this threshold, the entity could be subject to an excise tax on undistributed earnings.
I even did a little research and got a rebate for $30 from my gas company for installing a programmable thermostat. Since I went for the $45 model I'm sure I was in the positive on my investment in the first month of use.
Hi Jess, yes -- the Chemex does take a specific filter that is heavier/denser than other paper filters. It slows down the filtration process a bit and allows for a better final cup. I'm not sure if two regular filters would do the same trick -- does anyone have experience trying a Chemex filter hack? Thanks for the question.
I agree, we still don't know where all of the original $700 billion went or how or if AIG will recover. Meanwhile there's a lot we still don't understand about the intracacies of banking and just how bad some of the loan books of these banks still are. I mean interest rates are at zero and still nearly no one's lending en masse so something's going on.
Good to see that a lot of other people are taking advantage of this idea, too! Ramit Sethi writes a lot about automating your finances on his blog, www.iwillteachyoutoberich.com, which is another extremely helpful way to sock away extra money.
I actually didn't write it to sound judgmental. Actually I completely understand how you feel. I also have a baby and it's tough enough to juggle a full time job and my family. However, I used my very limited "me" time to pursue a little bit of side income that I can earn at home, and it is actually sort of therapeutic for me. If you have a hobby that you love to do that can generate some income, then it is worth pursuing.
TOTALLY agree - I hate this new trend. My biggest fear with these cards is that I'll forget I have them and waste the rebate (which is probably also part of the company's strategy). So I have to make a point of finding a way to use it, and this is really annoying to me because my life is complicated enough without these jokers creating more hoops for me to jump through.
The last few times I've gotten one of these cards I applied the card to a utility bill (Qwest, Verizon, etc). This allows me to use the entire balance immediately (no worry about leaving any amount on the card), and I enjoy having a reduced or no bill the next month or two.
I didn't know about the cash option - that's a great tip I'll look for the next time I get one of these rebate cards. The commenter's idea about giving remaining amounts to charity is also a good idea.
I live in a community where it is very commonplace to have a side job. Not only is it practical to have additional income if the cost of living is high, but many people pursue the job they are "passionate" about, while maintaining their "everyday" job. Families don't seem to be negatively impacted. They are often part of the side job (i.e., farming, beekeeping, small businesses, etc.). Great post!
Grace,
I agree with you about that the schools should teach more entrepreneurship. The focus seems to one sided toward developing skills that an employer may want.
Rather than using a P.O. Box, you could also get a mailbox that locks. These have become more popular in recent years and will keep thieves out of your mail.

There is one sure fire way to avoid credit card fraud. Don't have one. :)
I'm not voting because I think it would be irresponsible to vote without being more knowledgeable about the issues and candidates.
Yes, I do plan on voting...
Yes, I plan to vote!
I will be voting in November! It's very important to me.

Yes, of course I'll be voting - it's my civic duty! (and I want some people out!)
