I know exactly how you feel (at least in the summertime)! I like to go out on my deck around dusk, and just soak it all in. Not to mention the great sunsets (even if my neighbor's house blocks part of it...
I like the Cornstalk idea, to give a palm tree kind of appeal... I'll have to try than next year!
Absolutely-- Going to the early voting location this week with my husband. Florida needs all voters to be informed, and to keep out the crooks--LOL!
I also believe that the official polls are vastly inaccurate this year, as many people, especially the young, no longer have land lines, and therefore are not being contacted or counted for their opinions......we'll see!
When we moved into our home, I knew I'd love the place. But what I didn't know, was how much I'd like our neighbors. A friendly, happy neighborhood is the best ROI of all.
I love your idea for herbs in a window box. My friend does that. It's like having your own little grocery store right at your fingertips. Plus, I love cooking with fresh herbs versus dried. It really makes a huge difference. Thanks for the mini-gardening ideas, Little House!
Most of the rebate cards I have seen will let you cash them out as long as the full amount is still on it. (ex: Verizon Wireless) Once you've used it to purchase anything, you're out of luck according to the terms on their card.
I actually happened to get luck and spent the exact amount on my card. I think I had $3.30 left on my card, and got something at Burger King that cost exactly $3.30. Lucky day!
I usually spend the entire amount of the rebate card to buy virtual gift cards on Amazon. I can then use these at anytime against future purchases from Amazon, since there are no fees and no expirations dates.
Kristen, I agree that putting blind faith in any person can end up coming back to bite you. It's better to understand what someone is capable, or incapable, of before putting total trust in them.
In terms of trust and marriage, if a person doesn't have or can't build a level of trust in their spouse then they'll probably have bigger things to worry about than their credit score.
I bet your patio will be wonderful. It actually made me think back to Green Acres. The Douglass' were living in New York and Oliver was growing corn on the balcony. :)

More then likely, you are cooking way to fast. You can turn down the heat and use a thumper. If you hear the wash boiling hard, it is to hot. It should just barely simmer.
Devise a thumper. Take a direct pipe from the pot top to the thumper. This will catch a good bit of the oils.
Some of the above sentiments I agree with - you should do them now!
However, I disagree with visiting a financial planner simply because. Unless one has specific and challenging financial needs (offshore tax issues, trusts, etc.), people who have shown the capacity and discipline to get themselves to financial "freedom" certainly have the wherewithal to invest wisely.
Additionally, if needed, there are many good (and free) investment planning tools and portfolio construction services out there!
I spent 12 years in uniform so yes, I will be voting. If people are willing to fight and die for our right to participate in democracy then the least we can do is show up on election days.

Unfortunately... one factor driving the purchasing power of the dollar down... is the world fact... that China has the educational infrastructure, the population and our exported factory base... as the economists call it... 'the towering heights' to change the balance of money in the world.
The history of the world, from the Silk Road, to the demise of the Spanish Armada, shows that any nation, that loses it's edge, politically, economically, from within or without... will suffer a decline.
Our decline has just been hastened by our shortsightedness, our belief in short term profit over long term gain. Paying huge bonuses to people who have produced nothing ... but pain and suffering.
Stores selling McAfee software offer enticing deals to capture customers. These deals often involve preloaded Visa debit cards. Customers are told they will receive a specific sum on a debit card in exchange for their purchase of the McAfee software. But when the debit card is eventually used to make a purchase, the customer discovers the amount on the card is not the same as was promised.
What the customer does not know when purchasing the McAfee product is that a $3 fee will be deducted monthly from the debit card after a short grace period. The bank will continue to remove $3 a month from the debit card until the card is drained.
If that happened to you after you purchased McAfee software, we'd like to hear from you. Please visit McAfeeDebitRebateCard.com
I feel compelled to note that often annuities are not a good choice for people. Sure, there are instances when perhaps an annuity may be a good choice, but often they are pressured on older people who don't know they are being taken advantage of.
Annuities are, for the most part, an insurance product -- they are more insurance than investment. I say this because I think the only instance when someone should buy an annuity is when early in their retirement (or near retirement) they fear they will outlive their retirement savings by decades. Or perhaps they want to make sure their spouse is provided for (however, there are other ways to accomplish this).
Most importantly, there are huge up-front costs and commissions associated with the sales of many (most!) annuities. And then if you want to get any of your money out later there are often large fees associated.
Annuities are illiquid and are not at all without risk of losing value (even if they adjust for inflation).
Be very careful! Don't be wined and dined into an annuity. Especially if you're already quite old. Yes, sometimes it may take years for your investments to recover from losses, but that's why you slowly move more and more of your investments into less volatile bonds as you start using your retirement savings. You shouldn't have money you're going to be spending in the next 5-10 years in the stock market. But you should always be in the stock market! :-)

Hi,
I know that your comment is old but I was wondering, do you look at hulu.com? They have quote a few Korean television shows online and I think that they have a few Korean movies as well. Good luck.
my favorite is networking with people ive worked with at the various companies ive worked for in the past. The companies themselves are long gone, but this actually works out in my favor, since now many of these folks are spread out among many smaller entrepreneurial type companies that encourage a culture of "virtual employees", hiring home based personal for task and projects.
Hi,
I am hoping that you can help me, please. I just bought an Envizen ED8890A Portable TV/DVD player. It was supposed to be region free but it is not; it is Region 1. It is a very cool unit and I would like to watch PAL DVDs from Great Britain. Can anyone help me unlock this unit, please? Is this something that will be difficult for me to do? I would be forever grateful for the help. Thank you so much.
I semi retired in 2007, and have been supplementing my part-time income by doing an SEPP on the Traditional IRA part of my retirement funds. The SEPP is a bit like test driving the 4% rule for me, since it distributes about 3.2% of the principal every year. 2007 would have seemed like a really crappy time to begin drawing down on the nest egg, but so far, its been working out pretty darn well for me. The fund balance is actually about $18000 higher than it was when I started drawing from it, even tho Ive been taking that ~3% in monthly installments since 2007. Its invested primarily in index funds, a 70/30 split,a mix of US big/midcap/small and international and short/mid long term bonds. I've projected a long term return of 6.5% annually just for planning purposes, but currently I'm running ahead of that target. But I think this article does a good job of emphasizing that the 4% SWR its not a rule, its a guideline; its not a prediction, its a projection, and the ability to be flexible is key.
I rather liked this article, taking it as more tongue in cheek sarcasm than actual advice. I guess i have been lucky in that while i have been laid off from just about every company I've ever worked for ( save for the current one, obviously, but there is still time for that to happen) I've always ended up in a better situation than I was in the one before it. Conversely, not a single one of those companies is still around.
I am sure everyone knows but just in case:
One can donate any left-over change/amount on those cards to almost any charity.

I need to start that indoor herb garden!!
I love the idea of using the corn as an indoor plant. Great idea! :)

Never thought about growing corn plants. Is it possible to harvest any corn indoors?
Of course I'm voting! One of the local measures would shut down several large puppy mills in the area, so I need to go cast my vote for that.

Love this idea. It's sort of like paying yourself automatically. You can't miss what you can't see, right?
