The first eight commentators helped me confirm what I already knew. Chaos people. Organized Chaos (smile).
To Flovebunny. I agree about packing light and what's funny is that I was very bare bones, I had a backpack and a computer bag on the plane trips and as soon as I was done with my suits for the conference I shipped them back to the states. I hate baggage claims. Anyway, I'm going to take an ATV up to Montezuma next time on your advice. Costa Rican chinese food? I don't even eat American Chinese food anymore LOL:) What's interesting is that I should have known better because I kept my passport, credit cards and cash on my person at all times and I had my bag with the toiletries and flip flops and other knock around clothes in it on my lap. I had room to put the computer bag there too. Oh well right?
TI may not have recouped everything for me but it at least would have somewhat defrayed the cost of replacing the stuff when I get back stateside.
I think I'm going to write more gonzo-style posts and not stop until someone comes on the site and accuses me of being the worst writer ever. I'd love to have that dubious distinction, that means people are reading.
i never had this problem in CR, probably because i dressed very simply, carried only a beat up backpack, and kept money for the day in my shoe. backpacking through the western side of the country revolutionized my thinking toward "stuff" i carried around while traveling and life in general.
i even spent the night in puntarenas before catching the ferry, and had no problems besides making the mistake of eating costa rican chinese food.
next time, go to montezuma on nicoya. my favorite :)

I understood what was being said in the article, completely. Then again, I do associate with a 'younger audience' as it were, and the style of writing was a mature version of their mannerisms.
I'm glad that Wisebread has diversified to include Leffall's articles. Not everyone is of the same demographic; we can skip articles by authors we don't enjoy; this is a free web site.
The world might be a richer place, if people who wouldn't otherwise look at Wisebread found Leffall's articles to 'speak their language' and decided to try the rest of the authors' works.

The post could benefit from some editing, it's true, but come ON--it's snappy and funny, and it has a distinctive voice, and it does make its point: travel insurance is a lot cheaper than replacing all of your belongings. The author also links to a long and very specific post about TI and what it covers, if you want more information. This post is more a testimonial than anything else; not every post needs to be a bulleted list.
Wisebread, could you have an editor take a look at this post? It's incomprehensible. And how about explaining how travel insurance works. Does it cover theft at 100%?
Even as bread prices continue to increase, bread waste goes into the landfills. Most people think that stale bread goes to poor communities or to "day-old" bread stores to be sold at a discount. There aren't enough poor to eat all the stale bread in the U.S. Most of it ends up in a landfill for lack of an alternative.
It is fermented by yeast once, to rise in the oven. Why not ferement stale bread again, to ethanol. Every community has bakeries that are creating bread waste, but simple technology can turn this into fuel.
This kind of dodgy-employerism is especially typical of writer's job listings, where often the writer is expected to do the work "for the exposure" - and it's not much different for musicians, either. It's a ridiculous notion.
am I the only husband out here that thinks bribing your wife with cash to lose weight seems a little harsh, if not judgmental and overly critical of her?
If the author had posed the contract in an attempt to motivate herself, that's one thing.. but this just seems wrong to me.
Great ideas! I had to laugh at the cottage cheese comment, not that it isn't a great idea... my grandma is great at this method. Every care package we ever get comes with goodies stored in bread bags and cool whip containers. It's good for us, because she doesn't have to hound us later to get her good tupperware back!
I'll admit that most major companies do have a grudge website. (There are some that don't, but this is probably due to determined lawyers!) This is why I also added "150+ similar complaints by previous employees should be a sign that things aren’t on the up-and-up."
I have seen attempts at an employee backlash site that just didn't have serious enough complaints. "My boss made me work Saturday this one time" or "The air conditioner is always turned up way too cold" barely qualify it to be a site that would tip me off to a bad job.
The sites that I have used to keep me from applying were ones that told in detail the hiring and training processes, and had hundreds upon hundreds of collaborated stories of illegal practices and questionable hiring methods. These sites usually contain real contact info for me to verify anything I feel uncomfortable about.
Thanks for clarifying that just having an "anti" website is not always enough to dimiss an opportunity.

Another great resource is metacritic.com. They similarly compile professional and user reviews into one score (also for music, video games, and tv).
I agree with the methodical approach to selecting a movie. To waste 2 hours is an offense.
If you are stuck on an airplane, all these rules are void. Just watch whatever you can.

I am still trying to figure out what the heck happened. Are you the Harvard student? If so, they appear to have stopped teaching how to write.
This post was painful to read.
I thought the article was great, and that the author's "voice" made it much more entertaining.

You know, I just got a coupon for a $30 gift card if I transfer my prescription to CVS... I'll have to try this!
Amen. If I only got paid for reading all those worthless freelance postings.. I'd retire at 35.

I'm sorry man, but very shortly into this article I was thinking that it wasn't really well written.
Kind of hard to follow, with grammatical and spelling mistakes ("hole" instead of "whole" for example).
The impulse to share your story is good, but you might want to have a couple people proofread and give feedback before you submit.
This is so poorly written. I'm used to seeing much better on this site.

Thanks for the reminder about practicing awareness while traveling!
And yeah, I found this post pretty hard to follow too. The style really overwhelmed the content.
This is ridiculous. I visit this site every day and never have I seen such a terribly written post.
Jabulani, you're trying much too hard to be hip and funny. Perhaps you're a capable writer but no one's going to know that by this article.
I didn't follow a lot of it either. Good grammar can go a long way to helping your readers comprehend your message.

Very creative indeed, they can also become part of a first aid kit, sling or tourniquet.
