Free coffee and doughnut -- thanks for telling us about the promotion, and I looked up Krispy Kreme's promotion and they are giving away doughnuts at participating stores. I haven't voted yet (though over 1/3in my area have) so I guess I can get free stuff!
That's how I felt. When I lived in the metro, there was much more opportunity. I could schedule 5-8 shops on a given day and earn over $100 in cash, plus free meals and some merchandise. Since I have moved very rural, the opportunities are fewer (and they seem to pay much less.) If your town doesn't have a franchised shop of any kind in it, the odds aren't good that there will be a shop there.
This is very interesting, Linsey. I'm not sure it would work for me as a salary supplement, but as you and others pointed out, it could be a great way to reduce travel costs on an occasional get away, save on some pet products and pick up a gift or two. Thanks for breaking this all down.
Paper cups were designed for the birthday parties of four-year-olds. There's no reason why full grown adults should be consuming coffee out of their cups -- anymore than we should be eating good food off paper plates using plastic sporks.
I think that a lot of these companies are putting out the "Vote or die" message because they support a particular candidate and want their customer base to vote for them (by using subtle imagery and nuances). I.E.: MTV's rock the vote (and the numerous and high profile appearance of Clinton).
I appreciate you blogging about etsy. I like to make my gifts but sometimes have trouble finding unique material. Thanks to you I found Leslie's Store and the buttons and yarns that were perfect.
I saw this research repot on mortgage acceleration in youbonus.org. This is the best one. I highly recommend this to everyone. Right now, HELOC rate is low if you already have one. You can save about $50 per month. The truth always hurts, it only save you that much.
This citicard was my first credit card and I've been a customer for about 2 years. I just stayed calm explained my situation and they were able to lower my rate. I had a rate of 14.24%, it was lowered to 3.99% for nine billing cycles and 9.49% thereafter.
I just talked about how I am very satisfied with the service, have been a customer for 2 years, never late. I said because of some recent situations (moving, school, etc.) I will be keeping a balance on this credit card more often and my only other option to consider was a balance transfer. This is better than threatening to close the account because they'll still get the current balance from you.
Just call and ask, otherwise you'll never know! I'm not going to lie, I was kind of nervous.
Usually on the applications, all they require is a sample paragraph or two describing a recent shopping experience. They are looking for details, as well as proper grammer, spelling, etc. If you can take good notes and write exactly what you experienced, it's usually all you need to be able to do. Many of the shops are multiple choice or Yes/no questionnaires, as well.
This dude is a typical example of someone with a problem of self esteem... so many people always say the same crap. Let me just remind Roberto that Mexico has a population of over 100 million of which 50% or more live in extreme poverty. Sure, we might be one of the 12th biggest economies, but the people making and keeping that money are less than 100, in other words, thieves. Now to the culture point... Roberto, do you have any idea what culture means? The U.S.A. had indians living there before the english arrived... what about all the culture that has come out of the U.S.A. in the last 100 years? What the hell are you talking about? Then you mention the spaniards as our ancestors... tehy came over to this land and massacred millions of natives... The real ancestors are the aztecs, mayas, olmecs, etc... Don't forget you live in a country that has always wanted to be like the U.S.A. Just take a look around Mexico City... full of McDonald's, Starbucks, 7-11's... get a clue you moron...
Australia always gets a huge voter turnout because voting is compulsory. Registering to vote is optional, but once you have registered, turning up to have your name ticked off is mandatory.
So go for it, Americans. If you don't like the result & you didn't vote, then you have no right to complain later.
And believe me, because the USA has such an influence in the world, the rest of us are waiting for the result too!
I wondered why they didn't mention the sticker. The ad claims that you only have to say that you voted to get the coffee. I wish we had a Krispy Kreme near me!!
Very timely article. My parents were also children during the depression. They had some similar ideas they taught me as well:
1) Get out of debt as soon as possible if you have it.
2) Make as much money as possible and save as much as possible. I changed that to invest as much as possibe on a very regular basis. I have followed that advise since 1978 and I am very pleased with the results.
3) Share your prosperity with others. I changed that to contribute and participate in charity activites.
4) Don't forget to be grateful or give thanks.
I am afraid until Americans can change their idealism from "buy now and pay later" we will be discussing these topics for longer than I want to think about.
It depends on the shop. Some ask that you don't bring kids. Other ask for it specifically. As a Mom of 4 tiny kids, I found it difficult to bring them all on the ones that requested it. (Shopping for myself is a chore, without all the requirements of many mystery shops.) Others don't say either way, so it's safe to assume that if they won't hinder your experience, it's fine. (Like drive-thru shops.)
There are shops for pet-owners specifically, including vet, grooming, and pet store shops. They need people of all ages and demographics to fill mystery shopping roles.
I do a weekly check of my credit card statement online (to track my spending, since I put 95% of my purchases on the card). Back in March I caught several unauthorized uses of my credit card number the day they occurred -- just because I happened to check my statement online that day.
Since then I've enabled a number of alerts on my credit card. Whenever I make a purchase over a certain amount, I get an email alert. Whenever I make a purchase overseas, I get an email alert. Best of all: whenever I make a purchase that does not involve a physical card swipe (online, phone, mail), I get an email alert pretty much instantly.
Does anybody know why McDonald's site is unavailable. I have not been able to access their web site for 4 or 5 days now and the game doesn't officially end until Nov. 3rd.

They never give out those nifty "I voted" stickers where I live.
I always thought something like a free beer for voting might get a few more people motivated.
I wish I had tomorrow off so I could get my voting done and take advantage of all the freebies!

I don't have a vote. Am I the subject of discrimination? By the way, I do pay taxes...and I can be drafted as well!

who cares about evidence it works great for varicose vein
If I were to state that I know how to laundry money "LEGALLY", without risk, would someone be interested?

what a clever marketing ploy! I wonder how many other places are giving away freebies.
What kind of writing are they looking for? I've always been interested in doing this, but don't have many writing samples to show...

Linsey
It seems that getting a freebie based on having the "I Voted" sticker is illegal under California law.
According to LAist:
http://laist.com/2008/11/02/freebies_with_i_voted_sticker_again.php
So it's all on the honor system! By the way, LAist mentions that Krispy Kreme is giving away free donuts to voters.
Happy voting everyone!

if you have no children? I've heard that they want shoppers that have a family. I only have pets!
