  • Ask the Readers: Camp Much? (Chance to win $20!)   15 years 40 weeks ago

We once owned a 27ft travel trailer, it had a private bedroom, bunks, full bathroom, microwave, tv. We soon grew tired and stopped camping. When we first started camping we used a tent, enjoyed it so much then decided we needed to upgrade. Much to our surprise it was the closeness and the creative ways we made do with or should I say without that made it so much more fun to tent camp. It is carefree, stressfree and a whole lot of fun to explore ways to do things without the luxury of "THINGS". It is the simple things in life that bring us the most pleasure. In two weeks I turn 40 and for my birthday celebration we are planning a tent camping trip.

When you're in a not good position and have got no cash to go out from that, you would require to take the loan. Because that will help you emphatically. I take short term loan every time I need and feel OK just because of that.

  • 5 Financial Principles for a Seismic Economy   15 years 40 weeks ago

Great Article! I really like your first point about "Scalability", because so often we put ourselves into financial situations that work just fine when we are working and making our expected income, but throw something unexpected into the mix and all of a sudden our little hill becomes a huge mountain that we struggle to climb. There are so many factors that can affect our income, including health, relationships, changes in employment, family, and more, and we need to plan ahead for some of these emergencies. A little while ago I wrote a blog on "Preparing for Ups and Downs", when we aren't in a "scalable" situation. I suggest that people create an emergency savings fund that will cover approximately 6 months of living expenses, so they are ready for those unexpected situations.

  • Make Pizza Night Fun Again With These 30 Pizza Sauce Alternatives   15 years 40 weeks ago

What a great compilation of sauces! I love zaatar spice but it can be tough to find. There's no reason pizza has to be boring OR expensive. I find a particularly easy and inexpensive way to make pizza is to get your own sort of pre-cooked dough in the form of pita or naan bread. You just add the ingredients and put it in the oven long enough to melt the cheese. I wrote more about it here http://www.studyspice.com/2010/07/easy-pita-pizza.html

  • The U.S. Government Wants You in Debt   15 years 40 weeks ago

The government is trying to rebuild the economy, although it probably hasn't picked the best way possible to do this they are foolish. Personally I think people need to learn how to spend money responsibly. Not just horde the money they have but buy stuff that they can. Most people say "we can't afford it". so cut back on what is purchased instead of just not spending anything. The economy requires people to spend money, without them buying stuff the curve begins shifting and makes it difficult to put back into equilibrium

We go camping at least once a year with friends. Our favorite place allows our four families to camp together along the water's edge - just over $20/night, including water hookup (we only use for washing) and electricity (nice for hot nights to have a fan running). We have a pop-up camper. We splurged and bough the extra-insulated coolers; that means less (no?) restocking of ice over the weekend. We always plan our meals with the other families - we all bring milk, bread, eggs, bacon or sausage and meat that will feed everyone one night.

I love the time we get to sit around the campfire - cooking or roasting marshmallows, playing games with our friends, fishing, or just chatting and catching up. The cost of staying there is less than what we'd pay for one night in a hotel. Our food costs might be slightly higher than if we were eating at home - but we eat a LOT when camping (fresh air makes you hungry) and it's still cheaper than eating out.

  • Are You Wasting or Saving Money With a Warehouse Club Membership?   15 years 40 weeks ago

First, you claim warehouse prices may not be the lowest. Then, you claim they make most of their money on membership fees, not product markup. Those two claims certainly appear to be contradictory.
If their markup is low, they must be beating the grocery stores, who MUST make their profit on the products. One of your statements must be untrue. It's only logical.

We love to go camping and do so each year...some more than others. We tent it but because the last few years I have been pregnant or had a small child we stick to campgrounds for the outhouse (no flush toilets). We have gone in the cold and in the warmth of summer (gotta love Idaho!) and I now can set up camp pretty fast and take down fast too as well as have learned what to bring to stay warm at night (always wear a stocking cap!). LOVE TO CAMP! PS. Split the costs of food and such with friends and its less work and more affordable for all!

I've heard keeping the blades covered in rubbing alcohol is good too. I'm just lazy with shaving my legs so my blades last a while.

  • 50 Best Deals and Coupon Sites   15 years 40 weeks ago

I am familiar with all these websites and I can say they are very good websites to find the savings you want. Though the number of them can be overwhelming at times. Just pick one or two out of these and stick with them. It's likely you won't miss a deal because most of the time they all feature the same kind of coupons or deals from the same retail store.
I can remember in the earlier days before this couponing craze started, it was embarrassing to submit a coupon to a cashier because it just indicates that you are poor. But not anymore. It's becoming the norm. Nowadays, it feels like if you are not using a coupon it's much more embarrassing.

  • Want to Keep Your Disposable Razor Blades Sharp? Use Your Arm   15 years 40 weeks ago

I switched from the Fusion blades to old-fashioned double-edged safety razor blades. Costs about $15-$20 for a pack of 100 blades, so about twenty cents a blade. They take some getting used to after using a Fusion, but I learned how to shave with them and I love them. I don't feel like I have to squeeze every penny out of them like I did with the Fusions, so I replace them whenever I want. Only small downside is they sometimes get confiscated at airport security, but oh well.

  • Gluten-Free, Carb-Free Noodles   15 years 40 weeks ago

Hey, there. Yeah, quinoa actually has a LOT of carbs - it's largely considered to be gluten-free, and it's very high in protein, so it's good that way. But it has as many carbs as rice per serving, so it's not as helpful in controlling blood sugars as people might assume.

Good luck to you and your partner with the carb-reduction. It can be tough at first, but once you get used to it, it feels pretty good.

Alternatively, you can do what some other people do - run it backwards about 10 or 15 times on strip of denim. We have a piece of denim from a destroyed pair of jeans in the bathroom. My SO has been using the same disposable razor daily since early March. Still shaves like new.
