This is obviously a case by case situation. Do whatever works for your relationship.
The one potential problem I see with your example of the higher salary paying the higher bills is that some resentment may build up if someone feels like they're paying too much. If it builds up for a long time it could create a big problem.
My post requires some time and it's not for everyone, but that extra time will make sure every one feels like the food bills are fair compared to salary.
This is exactly what me and my hubby do instead of pooling the money he makes more so he handles the big stuff & I pay the groceries, internet and small stuff. . This way we both retain our own financial freedom without having to bicker over who spends what or ask each others permission to buy things . We have been married 5 years and probably had 2 minor financial disagreements since we married. I do think it is important though to have some kind of mutual savings where both are aiming for some kind of mutual goal.
When people encounter medical bills they turn to the internet for help. The problem is information overload. The same confusion just like stated on the invoice in which they have received. They look on the internet for answers and don't get direct info pertaining to the bill/ invoice itself. There are tons of weak advice and free articles out there. There is a reason that info is free! The old saying you get what you pay for is never so true when it comes to handling medical bills. Now There is a report to help with those nasty bills,
my paycheck is lower, looking a good work is hard today. i want to look for a work in the office, but, you know ,it is to hard for me.so i want to study and improve myself.
i was wondering when someone would post this, i have the plastx and it works fantastic but dont leave it on for too long cause it is strong stuff, it really eats away at the plastic if you dont wash it off afterwards , but its brought back a couple of games with unreadable perfect circle scratches :) which are the hardest to get out of games.
The coolest cheap-skatey thing I do: I make my bread using the "Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day" recipe. I get fancy crusty bread for about $.40/loaf instead of paying $4 a loaf for it. I can use it for pizza and cinnamon rolls too for a fraction of what it would cost to eat those things.
The most obnoxious cheap-skatey thing I do: I steal coupon inserts from the discarded newspapers at Starbucks on Sundays. :( Most of the time I buy a drink though. It's well worth the price of a coffee.
Really great article for recent grads! Wish I had seen this a year ago, but the tips are great for when I get my first paycheck of the new school year (I'm a teacher). Don't forget to keep track of all your career / financial paperwork!
This happens a lot in East TN where I live. I believe the Sheriff's deputies and city police are allowed to go a maximum of 15mph over the posted speed limit when heading to a call, but I have them pass me all the time going at least that fast (and most of the time faster) with no warning lights or sirens on at all. Someone told me that they sometimes head to calls in a "no alert" mode or something, but I think it's just a cover to let them fly on the roads with no penalty.
If I had the money and the time, I would have a ball videotaping LEOs breaking all sorts of speed limits, following distance rules, turn signal violations, etc. It's like they think since they can't get ticketed, they can just forget basic rules of the road.
I believe he was referring more to the issue of not paying attention to speed limit changes because you're using cruise control. However, in pretty much every vehicle I've ever driven with cruise control, the car will pull hard to maintain speed up a hill, and by the time you top the hill and begin the descent, you can be a few to several mph over the speed limit. And that is a great way to get busted, because cops love to hide just over rises on the highways/interstates.
I refuse to buy anything at full retail price, even if it means waiting for an extended period of time to purchase it. I take OCD to a new level when I am purchasing an "expensive" electronic device/gadget. I will furiously browse the prices for a week or so to get the average price range of the item, and then I will wait however long it takes until it hits a reasonable low. In the mean time, I look for discount codes and cashback incentives to make use of when the time is right.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoy being frugal especially when it helps the planet. We wash fast food utensils to resuse again for brown bag lunches, pour the water to boil pasta over weeds to kill them, use Groupon whenever possible, drive our cars until they die, only watch matinees or borrow DVDs from the library, and share one drink when eating out instead of buying two. Our favorite cheapskate habit is washing out coffee to go cups & reusing because most convenience stores will give a discount if you bring in your own cup.
i thought it was done today, looked at it, it looked calm and still, but look at the light and still some activity, but, i went ahead and started two more 2 gallon batches, one is plain, and the other i added 2 packets of grape coolade just as an experiment. the coolaide wont hurt anything will it?
actually Jay I work in banking. I've worked for various companies. Capital One bought my company after our CEO retired. They actually are running a business, that's true. But not a very good one from a customer service standpoint. They truly are taking advantage of "trapped credit". You see, when 2008s crisis was at a peak many credit issuers tightened their lending and canceled unused lines, thereby putting people in a newly minted bad situation of having a high % of "available credit" being used. Capital One knows these customers are good customers. They know their customers that pay more then then minimums are trapped there for a couple of years, and they are LOVING the 17% interest rate. Sure they do have every right to do this. But when things get better and cards get paid off guess where these customers are going? I called chase and they lowered my rate to 12% from 15.99%, would I have liked lower, sure, but hey, at least they "did something". Capital One will always have the niche market of college kids and first time credit users, but if they continue having robots in India spit out scripted answers they'll probably pay for it in the long haul, not just on the credit side, but their retail banking side as well. I now work for an institution that has renowned customer service and is not a recipient of bail out $$$.
I scour craigslist and the local newspaper website for yard sale advertisements each week. I meticulously plan out which sales to hit and always get up early so I can get a chance at the best merchandise. Then I ALWAYS negotiate with the seller (and usually end up buying what I want for less than the sticker price).
My latest find was a Trek mountain bike for $25!
Hey why create such a fuss. The person who has a greater salary should take care of bigger expense for example (monthly rent/mortgage house/car) and electricity bill and significant other with less salary should take care of groceries and internet/cable bill. Pay your own phone bills and buy your own clothes. There is no room for potential fights and also this is justified. What do you think?
creamy peanut butter works like a charm - on liquids spilled on a cd AND on scratches. Fills in the scratch like a charm. Use with a soft cloth, put creamy peanut butter on it, rub in circular motion all over cd then wipe off softly with new cloth. Works awesomely. Have done this for years
Hmmm...what do I not do to save money? We shop Craigslist, combine errands, match sales to coupons, prioritize our travel wishes (we compromise by cooking in the condo to get a nice condo, or eat out and stay cheap). We love the library as well.
One of my latest adventures is becoming the go-to person for toner/ink recycling in my office. Everyone sends their used cartridges to me, and I make a trip once per month to Staples. I get $3 back in Staples rewards per cartridge, up to $30/month. I then use this money for things I need anyway...paper towels, coffee, Clorox wipes, pens, paper, etc. Staples prices are higher than the Wal-mart, but you can't beat free!
What makes me a cheapskate? Having my adult children call me with their bargains or "finds" that they run across. Knowing I would be so proud of them. It has now been passed from one generation to the next. They are not ashamed of their thriftiness, but proud of it. It is a life style- we have never wanted for anything but have made wise choices.
My best hint?
Throw a package of hot dogs in a thermos with hot water and a bag of buns in your backpack and use the condiments at the consession stand at the baseball games. We always undulged in Major League babseball - but never paid $6 for a hot dog.
The foods that American Blacks ate in the south was a topic of derision and disparagement not so long ago. Now without reference to this cultural bigotry; kale, collards, watermelon, sweet potatoes, turnips, and the like are being hailed as some of the healthiest food around. It is loaded with vitamins, micro-nutrients, calcium, anti-oxidants, disease fighting elements, and so on. The mention of Scots eating kale was never included in any discussion of nutrition or cultural habits. The way you cook it is important, but this is so no matter who is cooking and the underlying nutrition is still there. Pot liquor, the juice remaining after boiling greens was imbibed on a regular basis and would probably be an excellent fertilizer for plants and a healthy drink for babies instead of the liquid sugars and constant use of cow's milk. We are the only animals that suckle the teat of another species. Cow's milk has been questioned as actually causing calcium deficiency not curing it.

This is EXACTLY what I do. I understand the doubling the first number, but dividing by 5 seems so much easier to me for some reason?

I enjoy being a cheapskate. Wrote a post about it: Give me the cheapskate life!

I'm the cheapskatiest of all my friends. I know this because I have neither credit card debt nor a flat-screen TV. They all have both.
