#19 happened to me.. I worked in outsourcing, and one day, without warning, my 'resource manager' (person in charge of my assignments & stuff) got sacked. Then I suddenly got transferred to an extremely-low-responsibility assignment, and a couple weeks later I got fired too.
The landline is especially important if you are a single adult with small children. Fairly young children can be trained to dial 911 and say, "My mommy is sick". But to expect them to give a coherent address may be too much.
I heard that cellular 911 is routed to calling centers which may be outside the country. That's fine as long as the call isn't dropped...
I have my local police number programmed into my cell phone. I would use this as possible, using Cellular 911 as a last resort.
Going to Whole Foods and other like stores gives you a better quality of food. Organic and GMO-free foods are important to your health and vitality.
I've never heard of anyone going to a fast food establishment as a treat, it is more like what they do on a daily or weekly basis. Again another problem to why we have so many health conditions in this country.
Thank you so much for including our article in your roundup, Lindsay! Just wanted to let you know that the link to our site doesn't seem to be working. Is there a problem with the link?
Thank you, Wise Bread! A few weeks ago, I hastily bought a discounted four-class pass to a local (Charlotte, NC) yoga studio on LivingSocial and have been looking for a way to unload it. I just posted it on DealsGoRound (fingers crossed!).
Great tips to save on car insurance, however these are kinda obvious. Maybe a blog on "Unusual Tips to Save on Car Insurance" might get more readers....just a kind suggestion :)
@ Myscha "There are a few new discount ideas I didn't know about listed here. Specifically the garaged car, green car and online ones." I didn't know about those either, really great tips!
Wow what a great unique way to get people interested and aware about their current insurance situation. Kinda fun actually!
Just wanted to say that point #6 I keep detailed records of phone calls and copies of all correspondence and receipts in making a claim is very important. Thanks for the quiz!
@Money Reasons - Finest Expert might be the way to go if you're interested in investing in rental properties. That's primarily what their site is designed for. But give both of these new ones a try and see which you prefer. thanks for the comment!
Nice article! It might also be worth applying for a credit card with no foreign transaction fee before you go on your trip, as this usually will cost you an extra 2-3 % on all of your purchases. Capital One offers the most credit cards with no foreign transaction fee as far as I've seen.
Thanks, In my cashier/sales clerk job I tend to think the bosses can cut me lose anytime they want since i'm easily replaceable but in the end, with many times asking my manager how the big bosses see me, telling i wasn't on the fire radar or being hated, and that i was doing a good job... I still am anxious as whether i'd get fired anytime soon or not at all...
i'll walk on eggshells, or in my way, turn around the coin and pretend to be the perfect employee who's reduced to silence, who agrees with everyone and never calls other cashiers to just talk when bored, never has his cellphone in his pockets and takes the right amount or less in his break times. This is gonna be a boring ride.
Guest,
If you are using essence or flavouring of any type, you do not need to age. The oak is was brings out the vanilla, cherry, apple or any number of flavours from the alcohol. If you are going to cover it up, why waste the time?
The wood chips at the hardware store are not very sanitary. You will find bugs, mold and animal droppings in it. Enough said about that.
Pat,
If you read farther back, we discussed the negative aspects of aluminum. It is best you do not use that as the still. You can use it to generate steam for a stripping column, but that is a little harder to do for just the fun of it. As far as the moonshine recipe, if they ferment it, you must distill it. It they are using alcohol to mix with Welch's, then you can just drink it.
There is always a chance of explosion with a still. If you leave or build in safeties, watch it closely and design it right, you will be fine. On a pressure cooker, it is designed to hit pressures mush higher then the small stills we describe here would need. If you leave large particles in your wash in the still, it could plug the pipes. If you have a 4 inch pipe coming up the top, the odds of it plugging go way down. On the flip side, if you simply run off 1/4 inch copper tubing to a coil, there is a good chance you will get back pressure and some dangers. Plan well, design right, build safe and NEVER leave it while its running. You will be fine.
Great Article. This will really help me when I go in for the interviewing process. I do have a few problems though.
1) I cant even talk to most places because of my age (15)
2) everywhere I go I either have to put in an application online, or fill out an application at a kiosk, so theres really no way to get that real 'one on one' with the person hiring.
3) question #5. This would, after all, be my first job, so what can i say? That in the past i have babysat or mowed lawns, i hardly think that counts as work experience. according to the people I have done these thinlgs for i have a great work ethic so would i mention that or not?
4) last but not least is schooling. This year i will be taking the following courses. AP Brit. Lit., Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Algebra 2 Honors, US History Honors, Chemistry, and Computer Apps. (keep in mind that i will be in my junior year of high school and will have just turned 16) i personally think that these classes would be good to mention since they are mainly higher level courses. also i am certified in cpr, and first aid, should i mention it?
Today I used this reason to help me not buy some chocolate bars. They were individually wrapped in two layers plus an outer layer wrapping all three of them together. I was leaning towards not buy them because of the price and health factors and then realizing what a waste all the packaging was helped tip the scales.
There's one other reason to consider not taking a new job that pays less than unemployment. If you are hired at a new job, and then laid off or fired within a few days to weeks, you no longer qualify for unemployment benefits. Chances are any job which pays less than a monthly unemployment check is one of the first jobs that any company will get rid of if, in this turbulent economic time, the company suddenly needs to shed jobs once again.
According to the American Bar Association Family Legal Guide, there are a number of reasons why an unemployed worker may refuse a job offer and still collect unemployment (http://public.findlaw.com/abaflg/flg-12-5b-5.html).
The listed reasons allowing an unemployed worker to refuse a job are: the job is not suitable work (the worker has no experience in it; it is more hazardous than the worker's previous job; and/or the physical condition of the worker prevents him or her from accepting it); bad working hours; wages well below the community wage levels; excessive travel costs and time; compelling personal problems; a job made available because the entire workforce is on strike; and/or if the wages and conditions of a new job are below those of the worker's previous employment. An example of the last reason is that a skilled craftsperson or technician (such as a carpenter or IT professional) is permitted to refuse a job as a janitor.
Now, these reasons do not have an indefinite period of acceptability. After a few years of unemployment, most states require unemployed workers to "lower their standards" and accept any job. At least initially each of these reasons is a valid reason to refuse a job offer and still collect unemployment benefits.
I wanted out of my job, but i was too good. I couldnt find it in me to do bad but i really wanted out. I had a lot of money saved, single, no kids, live in a beautiful place with super cheap rent... so yea, im cooked. I quit, yet i was so good, that they gave me unemployment anyway.

Buy nothing unless it is on sale or I have a coupon. I saved over $1000 the first year!
Thanks Sam for the tip. If we do find something sooner than expected, then we'll take the plunge. Interest rates are very enticing!
