I work with traders. I have nothing against traders. But they have completely different outlooks. Yes, we're all trying to make money. But traders want to make money on a daily basis. By trading.

It's not that I distrust what traders do or what they stand for, it's just that it isn't anything "we" should be trying to emulate.

This article was certainly a "what the heck?" moment for Wisebread followers. Apology is accepted but really the extent of the illogic makes it pretty embarrassing. Whether you're a trader or an investor, everyone is looking to make a profit in the most time and cost-efficient (including taxes) way. If you're investing and you like the price/value of the underlying securities in an ETF, then buying and holding makes perfect sense.
Southwest doesn't fly into my airport, either.
I have an arrangement with family in California, North Carolina and Maryland. I leave clothes at their homes so I now don't have to pack anything more than undies in a big purse that goes under the seat in the airplane. I also use the family shampoo and conditioner, hairdryer and curling iron. Same with a raincoat or sweatshirt. I also wear a couple of outfits on the plane, like a long sleeve shirt under a short sleeve shirt, jeans that go with anything and always a versatile sweater. It's always cold on the plane, anyways!
Other than that, I check with the hotel where I'm staying to make sure they have a hairdryer and hair care products.
Another thing to consider is that if you are one of the last ones on the plane, and you have a larger carryon with wheels, they will ' check' it for free since they always run out of room now if they don't yet charge for carryon luggage.
An alternative to that is to get the 2 gallon ziplock bags, lay folded clothes flat in them, close the zipper most of the way, roll them tightly from the sealed end and then close the zipper. That takes out a ton of air, saving space, but obviously not weight.
All thrift stores are not alike. You might not snag as good a deal as you got at home and certain seasonal things might not be available, (like boy's long pants with intact knees). It may be cheaper to mail clothes to your destination than purchase or pay luggage fees. Depends on how much you want to have with you and how often you want to launder. And with kids in tow shopping is already a challenge, let alone after a plane trip. What about wearing layers onto the plane and taking one carry on for the kids?
The past few times we flew anywhere we took carry on backpacks, sink washable clothes, (like the kind found at Campmor), and a stretchy clothesline (Rick Steve's site). Careful planning allowed us to stay under very low weight limits. We wore our coats/jackets onto the plane. But those fees would be killers.
Does anyone know if Horizon Milk (2%) is definitively homogenized? I assume it is because it's so smooth, but it doesn't say it on the carton (only ultra-pasteurized). I've heard the XO enzyme in milk fat is very bad for people if it has been through the homogenization process.
I may have to resort to skim milk until I can find someone with a cow.

Yes, very true. I have a prime example that I experienced this weekend when I visited a girl friend in New York. Just having lived there for a few months, she spends an insane amount of money on face products, make-up and clothes, which she thinks makes her feel better about herself because it's the status quo in the city. All the while she's still very insecure and unhappy with herself, but she will just keep buying into it until she realizes this. It's a never-endind road to no where and she could be spending or saving that money on something that will give her pleasure on the inside, because she's not an unfortunate looking woman. Then, I just read an article in Redbook about friends who make you overspend! It talked about having a close FBF (financial best friend) one who helps you stay on track with money because they also want to be smart with their money! good idea

Personally I don't feel like traders' needs are fundamentally different than normal investors'. Normal investors want to make money, and so do traders. Normal investors want to have liquidity in their investments, and so do traders. ETFs are definitely NOT just designed for traders and if you dug a little deeper you'll see that traders that trade ETFs do not affect the ETFs' value much because index ETFs mostly track the indices very well, but the traders that trade the underlying stocks do affect the values. However, mutual funds' values fluctuate due to the underlying stocks, too, so if you want nothing to do with traders then I would suggest selling all your mutual funds holding stocks & bonds.
I most definitely don't hate traders! But their needs are so fundamentally different from the needs of most of us, that it irks me when a product that seems tailored for one group is adopted by another.

There's no escaping the fact that college prices are rising. When I was in College, I sent myself to school all by myself and it was kinda hard. I took the easiest major and finished it for 4 years. yup,not all ETFs have options, but the large ones like SPY does and in volatile markets like this that's trending down it is worthwhile to have some cheap options as insurance. You can also sell covered options on your ETFs as an income strategy, and that's a good thing.
Good points. I live 1300 miles away from everyone in my family, so air travel is a fact of life for me ... and sadly, Southwest doesn't service their area. For shorter trips, I would love to edit down to a carry on only, but I have long, thick, curly hair. There's no possible way that my hair styling products alone could fit into 3 ounce bottles in a ziplock bag!

With all due respect, this article indicates a major lack of understanding of what ETFs are, and how they can be used.
Bottom line is that there are many different types of ETFs that can be used different ways by different people. They are a very useful financial tool.

STEP 5: Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message by highlighting the text of this letter and selecting paste from the edit menu. Fill in the Subject, this will be the header that everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a particular group, click the post message button. You're done with your first one! All you have to do is jump to different newsgroups and post away, after you get the hang of it, it will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup! **REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE!! Those 3,125 persons will all deliver this message to 200 newsgroups with my name at #1 and if still 5 persons per 200 newsgroups react I will receive $15,625! With an original investment of only $6.00! AMAZING! When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups, and send out another $6.00 to names on the list, putting your name at number 6 again. And start posting again. The thing to remember is: do you realize that thousands of people all over the world are joining the internet and reading these articles everyday? JUST LIKE YOU are now!! So, can you afford $6.00 and see if it really works?? I think so... People have said, "what if the plan is played out and no one sends you the money? So what! What are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users, every day, with thousands of those joining the actual internet. Remember: Play FAIRLY and HONESTLY and this will really work!!
There's no escaping the fact that college prices are rising. When I was in College, I sent myself to school all by myself and it was kinda hard. I took the easiest major and finished it for 4 years. I worked at the same to support my needs and projects. I really felt so tired but I have to do it since I really want to finished my studies.

yup,not all ETFs have options, but the large ones like SPY does and in volatile markets like this that's trending down it is worthwhile to have some cheap options as insurance. You can also sell covered options on your ETFs as an income strategy, and that's a good thing.
Good points. I live 1300 miles away from everyone in my family, so air travel is a fact of life for me ... and sadly, Southwest doesn't service their area. For shorter trips, I would love to edit down to a carry on only, but I have long, thick, curly hair. There's no possible way that my hair styling products alone could fit into 3 ounce bottles in a ziplock bag!
