i ended up using a tea kettle because i couldnt find a pressure cooker at walmart but and so it take a several runs to get a jar one run got me less than a 3rd of a a quart mason jar
IMO, this article merely parroted the information on the AAA website. Since this blog is for people who are trying to be smart about money, I guess we expected more analysis from a "smart consumer" standpoint. By that I mean: "Is this as good as it sounds?"
Can some one tell me if your job is elimnated and you are transferred to another job (same company) and you will make less--Can you draw unemployment for the difference?
A few weeks ago, AAA held a member appreciation night at Six Flags Magic Mountain. The park was open special hours for AAA members only (Friday 6pm-12am). It was fantastic! My husband and I have wanted to go for years, but never have, because it usually too hot, and/or too crowded. AAA solved both problems for us, and we had a great time! The tickets were only $25 each, and we didn't have to pay for parking (normally $15!). What a great perk!
Recently, my young adult son went on the town and forgot where he parked my SUV. He thought it was stolen, called me, the police and AAA. This is when, after a decade of family membership, I learned that AAA will not pick you up if your car is stolen, away from home, in the middle of the night! As a handicapped, middle aged lady, I had had a very mistaken assumption of the membership. BTW, Lo Jac offices are open from 6am-6pm so if your equipped vehicle's stolen at 6:01pm the thieves have a 12hour head start!
Cindy, Moon Sand is actually better in our house than Playdoh. If you get Playdoh on your shoes, you track it everywhere and it gets stuck in the carpet, the dog, the sofa, etc. If you get Moon Sand on your shoes, it falls off onto the floor, carpet, etc., but can then be swept, vacuumed, or dusted up. MUCH better than a big colored glob of goo caught in the carpet fibers. It's kind of like living on the beach... :-)
My personal favorite is "the banana box." I can usually get a couple at markets any time. They are very sturdy cardboard boxes that have handles (holes cut in sides). They usually come with a piece of heavy-weight brown paper rumpled in the bottom, and sometimes this has a little sticky banana gunk. But whatever, this paper doesn't usually lay flat. If you remove the paper, there is a significant hole in the bottom of the box. I just slip in another piece of cardboard, or a flat paper bag.
Banana boxes also have no printing... just a clean brown box. The tops have all the printing. I usually do not use the tops, or I cut them to make new box bottoms. However with out the tops, the boxes do not stack well (unless you criss-cross them). The downsides to the tops is that they fit so snug, they are hard to remove (they are the same depth as the bottoms). A solution around this is to cut the top so that it just has a couple inches of overhang, so it will be less work to get the top off.
With or without the top, banana boxes can slide nicely under most beds. I use a sharpie to mark the box contents on the end of the box. Because they are so readily available, at any time I can get more, so that all my storage boxes are uniform in size.
I read this book & actually liked it because it was short ;)
Despite its brevity, it left me questioning my priorities in life, how I want to continue leading my life etc.
I've even walked away from purchasing some "stuff" since reading the book.
Worth reading.
Similar to #3 (get the right credit card), check to see if various services/discount programs/clubs/etc you're already a part of qualify you for not paying baggage fees. I get a (slight) discount on a couple of airlines through my employeer. And, with Airtran, that comes with not paying the baggage fees. Not sure how widespread this is, but not a bad thing to look into.
I am a 54 year old female. when i was 26, i was denied health coverage. i had high b.p.was on some pretty strong pills. i've tried over the years to get it, but i can't even get a burial policy. had cancer surgery 18 months ago, if not for our university hospital i would be dead. now i have a broke back, how ,when, i don't know. i do know it hurts and i can't afford the care, i'm praying once again for some relief. we need health care,if we had had it then, myself and people like me wouldn't be as injured as we are.we would be a lot more productive and happy!
They did not have the code at their website for the sony SLV-D100 and when I googled for it lots of people have been searching for the code but nobody has it. Please help!
I agree that ETFs can be a great investment tool if you can get them without the trading fees, since having to pay a fee to both purchase and sell the ETFs basically turns the low fee investment option into an expensive front- AND back-loaded fund.
I'm so sorry! Courgettes (zuchinnis as you call them) are definitely the worlds nicest vegetable!! It's so rubbish that it's been spoint for you...
You should make fritters with them by dipping slices in batter and frying them, or just fry them off with some garlic and loads of salt until they go brown and crispy. So delicious! Please don't be put off courgettes, my heart breaks to think of anyone not liking them!!
Warman,
I take the BeanO tablet, crush it and toss it in. It would work better to mix with a cup of water before adding to the mash. If you use pure grain, then use more BeanO, if you use partial sugar, use less. Start with about 1 tablet per gallon. You may be able to cut it down, but you will have to play around to find the right amount.
Branflakes,
Your best bet for the oak, shave it off or cut it and use the sawdust. Don't use the sawdust from sanding. Wrap it in aluminum foil and bake it till it starts to burn some but watch out that you don't start a fire. If you want to make it easier to clean up and filter later, you can make lots of splinters and wrap in aluminum foil. Bake it for a while till you smell smoke. Do not open the foil, it will start burning. The foil keeps it from breathing enough to burn. Then you can slip the charred remains in the bottle and pull it out just as easy.
The crockpot may be ok for the heat source, but not for the container. It is small, not sealed enough, no way to attach a column and the plastic lid can leach chemicals.
10% off Target is a GREAT deal. 10% off Target.com is NOT. It does make a big difference and the article seem to have indicated otherwise. I would have joined AAA for this benefit alone. There are a ton of sources that offer 10% of Target's online site, but it's not much of a deal since you have to pay for shipping...and taxes.
Actually, ALL of the "savings" can be had from other sources. And who still uses paper maps to get around in the iPhone generation? No deal.
Plus, Basic AAA membership in my area is $77, not $57. These savings are no where near amazing. The price may be worth it for those with frequent car issues, but AAA would make a tidy profit on most.
I think I grew up with about all on the list, except the deer. I biggest think that stands out was my grandfathers clean out the fridge fish soup. He would make this after catching fish ( anykind) and it contained anything almost used up or going bad in the fridge with a ketchup base. As you can expect it varied widely. I can remember it being very good sometimes but usually pretty pretty bad. We had to eat it all though. Oh and I do remember my grandmother who is Polish always making duck soup I think she called it Chanina?? Who knows where that duck came from!
Joshua,
1 You can do yeast just like sourdough. As a matter of fact, just take some of your starter and throw it in. If you want to go really old school, just let the flies and bugs land in the mash. They carry their own yeast. You can pick a few grape leaves locally and throw in also.
2 It's straight forward. Don't over pressurize, it can blow up if not as strong as the still. I use a large mason jar and have the still bubble into a solution (or herb) and steam off to the top of the jar where there is another pipe going to the coil. See the setup here for an idea http://stilldrinkin.com/images/Column-Venom.jpg
3 Finishings can make absinthe or gin. There are many recipes, i have looked up wormwood, we don't have it local. You can buy a still for making essential oils. You would cram the chamber or thumper full of flowers or herbs and then separate the oils and water from the product. Just use wash instead of water and you get gins, absinthe and what not.
Willieboy,
The lemon can be added any time. It is a long term preservative and gives some flavour. Correct on the alcohol only part, you are just infusing to start with. The sugar is used to pull out the alcohol that is absorbed in the fruit. When it is pulled out, it takes with it, the flavours and colour. Pineapple is a common fruit for this. You can find it in large jars at bars with Gray Goose. You may find the flavour is great with out pulling the extra flavour with sugar. If that is the case, just eat the fruit, but don't drive.
Well done Xin! I applaud you for laying all the information out for Wisebread readers that may have read my earlier post. I have another post laying out some ETF tips so hopefully between your post and my update we can correct some of the negative hype I spread out about ETFs.

Be carefully with aspirin, in the country where i come from some people use aspirin to take away calluses on the feet
