I have 4 dogs that mean the world to me. There's nothing better for a horrible day than to go home to 4 smiling, tail-wagging, slobbering bundles of love that think you can do no wrong. They love unconditionally & only ask the same in return.
I have to have plenty of help from my 13 year old son and 9 year old daughter to take care of our pets... We have 27 cows & bucking bulls, one which we are bottle feeding... 7 horses (2 are babies)... 2 dogs, 2 fish, 1 goat and about 15 cats!
I have a very human-like English bulldog :) He's my favorite thing in the world, best purchase ever made. The greatest cost with a bulldog is E V E R Y T H I N G. His food is $90/bag since it's prescription food. Bulldogs have lots of medical issues and his main issue is allergies. His insurance is also pretty expensive but I think it's worth it. The most enjoyable part of having him in my life is the joy he gives me just by looking at him or even a picture of him. He cracks me up. Funniest "person" ever.
I have two cats - a Turkish Angora named Emma Watson and just got an 8 week old kitten who's got some gray stripes, Taylor Swift! Emma is currently very upset that Taylor has invaded her space but hopefully she will warm up soon.
We currently have a 7 year-old Corgi mix. He is a happy dog and loves to be with the family. Since my husband and I got married almost 28 years ago we have always had cats and/or dogs (sometimes at the same time). The biggest expense overall is probably vet bills, but we do our best to keep those in check by having our animals get regular checkups and keeping them up to date on vaccinations.
I have 2 border collie mixes and a Quaker parrot. The "girls" are high energy and both have health insurance for which I am grateful. My youngest tire her ACL one day. The surgery was almost $3300 and right after she healed from the first surgery, she tore the other side. I only had to pay one deductible and both surgeries were covered. Insurance for pets is a wonderful thing.
If you have the time, you might be able to cut the items into quilting squares and donate or sell on ebay. Even denim is salable, as it is an expensive fabric and ages beautifully.
If you can't find a place to donate squares, locate a quilting club or store and post a note there, offering to donate them.
Also inquire with local schools whether teachers (even High School Art teachers) ever plan projects that might require fabric.
Old towels are always needed by Animal Rescues.
Tee shirts also work well for them, to warm up an old dog, to transport a sick dog, and to clean smaller messes, or even use as woobies for lonely dogs in crates.
Not all introverts are shy, and not all shy people are introverts. Shy is social anxiety. Please stop putting these two together! I'm introvert and am far from shy.
I have two wonderful rescue Jack Russell Terriers: Cooper, 8, and Georgia, 3. The biggest costs have been vet bills (mostly routine health checks and vaccinations) and training classes because they both really needed to learn some basic skills! Then they did so well at school and enjoyed it so much that they also took a couple of agility courses in which they really excelled. I love that I was able to provide a forever home to two dogs that needed one, and they are my babies and best friends. Worth every penny!
We have a pet bunny. He is really not expensive to care for. The best thing about him is he is always appreciative!!! Sorry if it appears I entered twice. I had trouble on one computer entering so I used my tablet this time!!
Yes, we actually have more pets than most! We have multiple dogs and cats, and the kids have a pair of gerbils and a pair of guinea pigs. The biggest expenses are always the unexpected vet bills! We have a separate 'vet emergency fund' to handle the big bumps in the road that can come along with pet ownership. But they're worth every penny for the unconditional love they give. They're also great for teaching the kids responsibility and to have respect for other living creatures.
I do not have any pets, although I would like a dog. I grew up with rescue dogs and they're the best animals. Unfortunately I travel a lot for work and the cost of hiring a trustworthy dog sitter is unreasonable.
Just came across this article and will be sending it to all my Facebook friends who constantly complain that there's nothing to do on a budget in the summertime in Los Angeles. Thanks Wisebread.
I have had pets in my life since the day I was born. I am now lucky enough to have lots of fenced land perfect for my 4 rescued dogs. I also have 3 rescued cats and a house and savings enough to care for them all properly. Some people use their savings to take cruises, visit Disney or take vacations to Europe. I travel on a strict budget and use my savings for my pets.
I have talked to many people about putting a value on their time. Especially when they are trying to be frugal and save money. If it saves you $50, but takes 10 hours of your time, you're "working" for less than minimum wage.

1 rescue dog and 1 skink...the kids insist that we count the worms in the worm bin too.

"Wealth is the ability to fully experience life." - Henry David Thoreau
Not a saying directly related to savings but savings plays a massive role in obtaining wealth.

No but I wish I had a puppy!
I have a dog named Monroe!

Yes, 1 rescue cat, and he is the best investment I've ever made!
I do not have pets. Maybe when we get our own home someday.
I have a bird. I really enjoy her company. She seems to understand what I am saying.
