I normally just chat on the phone with my brother, although he does fly out to visit us once in a while. I helped him keep his costs down by using Southwest Rapid Rewards to book his flight. Saved him over $500!
Dairy cows are not hooked up to machines all day. If they were they wouldn't produce milk properly. Plus, milk letdown will only occur when the cow if comfortable. Cows are milked normally 2-3 times a day depending on the farm.
I disagreed with most of what was said but could make some understanding for how you felt that way. However, I am an Animal Science major looking into a concentration in Dairy and was pretty irritated on how some of this was taken. I have been to dairy farms all across the US. I have never been to a farm where the cows were not well cared for. Dairy operations cannot be handled with as much slack as some beef operations.
Dairy farmers truly want happier cows, happier cows produce more milk. It is as simple as that. Happier cows are healthier cows and farmers take care of them because that is their livelihood.
buy the 99-cent hallmark cards just as a way to mail an old-fashioned bit of love. a cheap but warm, thoughtful way to say i was thinking of you...i do this for my mom and favorite aunt.
besides the obvious facebook and skype, i honestly love finding 99-cent cards at CVS or small drugstores and mailing mom a card. it is nice to get a card, with my handwriting, something NOT digital, but personal. the card costs a dollar, then a stamp, big whoop. it's the thought that counts and with so many nice cards at a dollar now, and hallmark is offering more at the $1.99 price, too, so it's not a cost prohibitive thing. and it's just the nice surprise that really says 'i was thinking of you' and that makes me happy to know my mom is happy.
I have a schedule for calling my parents overseas, using an international caling website. I also have scheduled weekly emails to my grandfather (also overseas) to make it easier to stay in touch, without juggling around schedules.
I text and email as much as possible, make phone calls when I have to, and visit when it's necessary or convenient (I try to group my errands geographically when possible).
Skype and Google Hangout have been my go-to apps for video chatting with friends, family, and colleagues from around the world -- when video isn't necessary, I have used IM services (or just the IM on Skype) to stay in touch for free.
Hi Kat. Thanks for your comment. I buy a lot of my stuff online, so one thing I like to do is keep a running list open as I browse. I copy and paste the URL's of furniture items I am considering onto a spreadsheet, along with the price next to them. It makes it super easy to refer back with just a click once you have a big list going and you can start narrowing down choices.
Also, if you have a specific manufacturer's item in mind, try using Froogle.com (Googles shopping comparison), or just doing a general online search and see what stores have the item at what prices. Definitely read online reviews at each store, as not only will they give you info about your piece, but they offer up a lot of info on delivery and how exactly your item will arrive, which is key when buying online. Good luck with your furniture shopping.

We use texts with an unlimited family plan as well as calling. My sister and I Skype so we can be hands free.

Gchat, WhatsApp, and sometimes we'll even do the old fashioned postcard.

An easy one... throw your coins in a jar at the end of each day. You can use that money when you go on trips rather than milking your savings account.
Skype, email and before I deactivated my account, Facebook (though Facebook was a bit more passive).
Definitely use online networking and Skype to save money on keeping in touch :)
