I use email a lot to keep in touch with friends and family. Also, Google Voice is great for lots of free or low-cost calls. And of course, Skype and Google Hangouts are perfect for when you want to see someone and chat with them
A previous employer fired me, in the middle of large cleaning house (company was in the middle of being sold). When I filed for unemployment, they told me my Manager said it was due to poor performance. So I filed an appeal, and asked what that appeal process entails. They said that the company would have to provide documented proof that I had poor performance. Well since I had nothing but good evaluations, I asked the clerk, if I would get a copy of whatever proof was submitted, and she said she would. I filed an appeal on Friday, and long story short, on Monday I was approved for unemployment benefits. This was in the state of TX btw. Lesson of the story is, if you truly were wronged in your termination, fight, fight, fight, until you get what's rightfully yours.

Sometimes it's harder to save money when you are with friends but when you can put your heads together you may be surprised at how many ways you can save. If you plan out ahead where you want to go and what you'd like to do, you can do more than you think!
I use Skype to keep in contact with friends overseas, and when traveling, I use it to call my family. The rates are pretty competitive, and I love that I can adjust the caller-ID to be my US phone number so people know it's me calling.
Interesting ways to help your aging parents with money! These are great ways to help your parents manage their finances and trim expenses as they get older. Helping them with technology and teaching them how to use mobile apps can cut the amount of time your parents spend trying to buy or find an item. Your parents have done a lot for you in the past and now you have the opportunity to help them!
Some of these don't seem terribly frugal to me. Paying for an eyebrow wax or pedicure, having cable tv with a dvr, getting food delivered. These are all optional things we can't afford this week.
WACOO IS THE BEST! I'm from Oregon and came to Waco for college (Baylor). I initially expected to hate Texas and Waco and therefore did! As soon as I got over myself and began actually exploring the place though, I found that it is an incredible, homey, fun, hip, and visionary place. The Waco community is hopeful and moving forward. Definitely deserves to be on more lists like this!
Skype is great for international calls. My background is in global health so I have lots of friends and colleagues in places like Africa and the Pacific. Skype is a great and inexpensive way to call their mobile phones if Internet is spotty.
My best friend and I met over the internet (I know, I know), but we've been friends for almost six years now, have met and adventured in real life... but we live 3500 miles away from each other. We Skype for 6-10 hours once a week when we find the time around full-time college and working too. We'd never be able to speak -- let alone see each other -- and may not have ever met each other if it weren't for Skype!
Call parents using FaceTime or Skype so Internet connection is used. And I use gchat and email to keep in touch with friends. My girlfriends from grad school and I have a standing chat time every Monday - we've kept it up for almost 3 years!
I bought masa and rice flour but can't seem to find soy or sorghum flour in my town. Is their a third option that might work? Tapioca starch? Almond flour?
My wife moved two states away from me over six month ago now to care for her very elderly parents, and my sons and grandson also live hundreds of miles away. To stay in touch with them economically, I use email, Skype, and have a flat-rate phone plan so I can talk with them now and then. It's not easy, but the best we can do for the time being.
