I agree with nearly all this advice except for appliances at Sears. I've been a loyal customer for their appliances but things have really changed. I bought all new hot water heater, softener, double ovens, cooktop, dishwasher& refrigerator when we moved . I saved a bundle by taking their sale of all Kenmore products. My $800 dishwasher quit at 2 years & is out of warranty. Sears could not get the part to me for 60 days, and they could come to repair it for another 30 days ( live 30 minutes from Sears!) I got conflicting info & the run around in countless conversations & the manager of Customer Solutions was rude & got really nasty. She told me my problem was not an emergency because I can wash dishes by hand. And what do I do for a living? Interior Designer who specializes in KITCHENS. Every client hears the story & I hope lots of people see this! SEARS? No!
My car literally blew up while driving. It was declared a total loss and although I ended up getting more money than I thought, but I had to get a new (to me) car :(
I do remember having your family or even friends walk with you to the plane and sit with you if you arrived early which we didn't have this ridiculous security situation to deal with so of course most of the time we would arrive early and being a former smoker I agree with the smoking policy really you can't away from the odor want you exposed to those toxic smell like chemicals I don't personally remember having headaches but I have seen similar situations as such they could've been handled with the little consideration for another human being And I did feel for those suffering especially unnecessarily
Plumbing problems, new tires on both of our cars, new deck b/c our old one was crumbling, our normal life eating up what little we can manage to save up.
I guess you could say a little home maintenance was a surprise cost, but I found an affordable contractor and didn't have to pay much (a couple hundred dollars).
Well, I had cancer earlier this year. Luckily, caught early and very treatable, and I have decent medical coverage. Even so, I hit my maximum out-of-pocket cost of $3300. So on the good side, I get my prescriptions and doctor visits for no additional cost for the rest of the year!
In order to get our car tags in Georgia when we moved earlier this year, we had to fork over 7% of our car's 'assessed value' up front! We figured there would be costs associated, but definitely did not budget for the thousands they charged us. We also got married this year so the budget was already very tight. Luckily we were able to work it out!
yes, unfortunately I was diagnosed with Melanoma skin cancer. Fortunately I have an HSA account and had savings to cover it plus saved sick time for my time off work. It was removed and I am cancer free. Now I'm working on getting my savings back to where it was and then some.
We had a huge amount of extra expenses this year as flash flooding totaled two of our vehicles and our garage and basement in July. Besides the two vehicles, we had to replace our water heater, washer and dryer, my son's bed and dresser, and of course drywall materials. Devastating to our budget to say the least and insurance didn't cover anything except one of the vehicles since we are nowhere close to any body of water and therefore didn't have flood insurance on our property.
I unexpectedly had to buy a new set of tires. I opened a credit card at the service place and don't have interest if I pay it off in 6 months, which I will do. Additionally, my dad is helping me somewhat, so that might be a cop out, but I am lucky.
I completely agree! Too often in crockpot recipes I see (not just these), something needs to be cooked first on the stove-top before being to the crockpot. Totally defeats the purpose, imo.
No, luckily I havent.
Yep! We had unexpected medical expenses, plus the cost of setting up at home care, medical equipment and PT.

Had to pay more income tax than expected.

Yes, I had dental bills.

I would have put mold on this list.
We had an unexpected dental expense.
Karmin is my preference :)
Unexpectedly had to buy a new bed frame after my previous one broke. Sleeping on a mattress on the floor is not my type of comfort.
Unfortunately, yes. My car decided that I needed a new fuel pump out of the blue. Completely unexpected & very out of my budget.
Can you please do a similar article on the best money podcasts? Thank you!

Shark Tank.

Yes. We had to replace our AC and furnace. We didn't expect this, but perhaps we should have. The HVAC system was 19 years old.
