  • Feeling Stuck? 100 Ways to Change Your Life   13 years 41 weeks ago

That's an interesting idea of knowing yourself and discovering your wishes, thanks.
Dare make the change, you are giving a chance to yourself for a new experience, your life will become reacher because of that. If you make mistakes on the choice or you fail, don't worry, this will make you stronger and you will enjoy the moment to come much better because of that.
J.P. Sartre (french philosphe)said: "Life exists in idividual moments, is up to us to make sure that those moments are vital, interconnected and vast. To make them meanfull, contributing to the process of living that life is embrassing. We have to create a master piece out of life and wanted to live again and again, for eternity"
Be proud for your life and do the things that you want to do, don't push till the limit, yourself will appreciated:)

Here's a HUGE one that was missed: Oil and Gas Landman or Courthouse Title Examiner

If you are willing to relocate to Western PA, Eastern OH, or North Dakota you can start as an Oil and Gas Landman or even Title Examiner. They will pay for you to live in a hotel, pay $30/day for meals, and anywhere from $175-$225/day to start.

For a single person this HAS to be the easiest way to save thousands and thousands of dollars a month with a very low entry requirements. They are in need!

Those card-key access power switches in European hotels are a real pain when you want to charge your iPad or other device while you go out. It's a good idea, but it would be nice if there was a plug that was switched off.

  • How to Hire an Accountant   13 years 41 weeks ago

I've found every accountant I've used through referrals. When I'm talking to a potential new one, it's been helpful for me to give the accountant a specific example or two of why I'm coming to them rather than a blanket question like "Do you work with people with a lot of 1099 income?"

Does anybody else have advice on good questions to ask a potential accountant?

I worked as an orientation leader for my college one summer, and that provided free room and board. It was great in many ways (my college's town was beautiful in the summer), but could be super draining when the students were there -- we'd work 18+ hour days.

I'm with you on everything except the fluoride. Do some research on that-- it's becoming controversial. Fluoride was an industrial manufacturing leftover that got a second life from early studies on its effect on tooth decay; however, more recent studies suggest that the benefits may have been overrated (now that it's in almost everyone's drinking water whether they want it or not) and there may be some negative consequences.

Yes, my favorite part was the mingling events in the evening. You could break out of the boring meeting sessions and really be able to talk opportunities and create partnerships

A free gas grill here would have kids inhaling propane.

The European cars that get awesome gas mileage do so by eliminating safety features that add weight to the car. America has laws requiring the safety features. I guess that should be de-regulated and let the people have the freedom to choose safety vs. fuel economy for themselves.

Very good points. One item surprised me here in Denver: it's illegal here to catch any rainwater. Apparently the local water board has ensured the passing of an ordinance that prohibits any competition.

Turning down the thermostat on the hot water heater is a big energy saver. Instead of making the water hot enough to require cold water, set it lower so all you need is what's in the hot water heater.

Usually, I'm right with you on these articles. However, it seems that you are implying that the differences outside the US are intended to be environmental measures. I don't think that is the case. You do point out the geographic cause of some of the differences, but most of the others (clotheslines, gas prices, appliance size) have more to do with economic causes. I do agree that those measures are better for the environment. Just thought I'd bring that up.

Jamie, if you love children's books, you should look at being a consultant for Usborne Books & More: www.giftofusborne.com/Join I absolutely love working for this company. It is a great way to start making money. You can sell to local moms, your friends and family who have children. You can also sell to libraries and schools with the Educational Consultant kit. I actually have a friend with CP that I sent her info the other day. Much can be done from a computer and phone, but it wouldn't be strenuous if you wanted to get out and set up booths and book fairs. This is a great group of women, we have videoconferences online each week (that are optional,) but it is a great way to get connected with other women. There are so many incentives offererd and just a great company to work with. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Ana, if you love children's books, think about joining Usborne Books & More as a consultant: www.giftofusborne.com/Join I am a WAHM of three who homeschools and absolutely love this company. It is a great group of women you can connect with and a quick way to start making money. You can sell to your friends and family or at preschools. You could possibly sell to the school your twins attend or your public library. There are so many opportunities. If you have any questions about it, feel free to email me. I really wish I would have found this opportunity sooner, but just glad I finally did.

Yes, I've been to many business conferences and trainings. The free food is always the best part of any of it!

Yes! I have attended a Property Preservation conference in Washington DC, but my favorite part of that event was the incredible food served throughout the conference! Most of the content didn't relate directly to my job.

But I also attended a Get Motivated seminar, which was absolutely incredible. So motivating, wonderful, well known speakers. I had the opportunity to hear Laura Bush and Colin Powell on the same day....tremendous!

  • Foods You Can Grow in the Comfort of Your Home   13 years 41 weeks ago

Most herbs can be grown easily indoors--especially basil, but others like oregano, chamomile, etc. can do well indoors. Another commenter mentioned basil, and I highly recommend it. It's very easy to grow and takes up a minimal amount of space. Many herbs can be grown on a windowsill with a wide ledge, lending both beauty and practicality. I'm also looking into the site windowfarms.org, which offers guidelines on how to grow lots of different plants indoors (read about it in a magazine--I believe Yoga Journal). I might try lettuce this winter, since I hate buying store-bought greens. Thanks for the post. I never would've thought you could grow tangerines in your house!

  • Ask the Readers: Have You Ever Attended a Business Conference?   13 years 41 weeks ago

Hello! I have been to a business conference and it was actually very useful. I found that the best part of the conference were the work groups. We broke up into small groups of people from all kinds of different companies, and used all of our skills to solve problems that the conference was meant to address (marketing and data analysis). It was a lot of fun, expanded my network, and also allowed me to learn a lot.

And yes, I liked you on Facebook too!

  • Ask the Readers: Have You Ever Attended a Business Conference?   13 years 41 weeks ago

no i havent and i wouldnt. those things look like a major waste of time. they also look more like frat parties. sure, you meet some people, make new contacts, but does real work get done? are those contacts ever of any real value?

  • Foods You Can Grow in the Comfort of Your Home   13 years 41 weeks ago

I'm impressed! I never would have thought of growing most of those items in the home. Tomatoes and bell peppers are 2 of the most obvious. I have a lemon tree that's been growing in a large pot for the past 5 or 6 years.

I did grow a strawberry plant indoors this year and it failed miserably. It produced a grand total of 1 strawberry. This was mainly because I planted it out of season.

Very interesting that you can grow pineapples and bananas in the home. I think they'd do a lot better outdoors, but I have no personal experience.

There are also many herbs that can be grown indoors. A few of them include basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, parsley, and cilantro. If you do a lot of cooking, it can be much cheaper than buying them at the grocery store. A large basil plant, in particular, can produce a high enough yield to last for a couple of years. I'm still using dried basil that I grew 2 years ago. An indoor herb garden is a great way to get started if you're interested in growing your own foods.

  • How to Be a Bad Craigslist Seller   13 years 41 weeks ago

I am trying to buy just a simple wooden black couch off someone. for a week now
first she says she will be home tomorrow to give me the measurement by email. when she does get around to it the next day 11pm she sends an email saying only the 1 side measurement and how 4 other people want this and how it is underpriced plus when i ask if she can show me picture of the frame alone with out the coushions she sents me a black photo you can not even see anything. Then she acts like in her email that she is selling gold antique. so I try to contact her and still her ad is up she is psyched thinking she is selling a gold couch for $70. and she won't even respond to one request , I live far from her if the sizes of the couch is good to go and comes apart I will take it. She has some mental issues.,sitting on her add just corresponding after 2 days to a question. You can not even spam her. She does not even know what she is selling when you ask her she does not know where it came from.

  • Cheat Sheet: Retail Markup on Common Items   13 years 41 weeks ago

New auto prices have a 320% mark-up.........don't know where you came up with 10%, a dealership couldn't even exist with that narrow profit margin and certainly wouldn't account for the multi-million dollar complexes all the dealers have!!

Since we're pesto freaks at our house, basil is a must. We've been growing it outdoors and freezing the finished product to get us through the winter, but your article got me thinking... Thanks for the ideas!
