You can try buying gas gift cards at grocery stores. For example, ARCO only takes debit cards, but most Albertson's in SoCal sell ARCO gift cards. My AMEX gold gets double points on groceries so I buy the gift cards, get double points and get to use ARCO with a 'credit card'. Saves a few bucks every time!
Thanks for this great article. What an interesting life! My husband and I started a new travel website this year as a result of wanting to use home rental, hosting and swapping to travel. We are amazed at the global connections to be made! We had never heard of the sites for house sitting. Amazing!
I'm a planner. I live by my calendar because it helps me keep track off all of my responsibilities between work, getting my business going, and helping my parents. Time management is extremely tough without planning ahead.
I do have a hard time adjusting my plans when things change though. I think the problem lies in the fact that a change of plans greatly affects the timing of other events throughout the day, so it makes it hard for me to accept the change. I am learning how to deal with it and try to make sure I use time more wisely, whether it is to relax or get something done.
Regarding #8...........Have your place presentable but NEVER clean before the party - it's a waste of time.......Instead focus on having a great time with friends eating good food..........And then clean
I get cold sores maybe 5 times a year or so, and i absolutely despise them. I have tried every trick in the book, researched it to no end, and watched the results fail again and again.
Recently I have discovered the best possible way to stop a cold sore from being full blown and gross.
What I do is as soon as i feel that tingle, (this is going to sound disgusting, but it works!) I put earwax on the affected area. If the sore consists, I ice it until it is no longer bearable, or until completely numb haha. After this, I use a cotton tip to apply tea tree oil on the cold sore as often as possible. I did this today, and my cold sore looks completely non-existent! I am amazed! I'm telling you, this method has worked better than any medicine or anything. I am so relieved that i have finally found something that works for me!
I also take L-Lystine and apply carmex (BEST COLD SORE CREAM) until it completely goes away.
Other things I have tried that could work is tea bags, hand sanitiser (really dries it out), toothpaste, or nail polish remover
My husband and I save money by owning only one car. He gets a free monthly transit pass through his job, as well. We also plan ahead so we can always go to the same gas station, with the lowest prices.
I've been using witch hazel now as a "whole face" aftershave for a little over 6 months. I wet my face and apply it to all exposed skin from the base of my neck upwards -face, nose, forehead, fronts and backs of my ears, and back of my neck.
I think, and my wife agrees, that my skin is a lot better now. I looks healthier and, she says it looks younger. I think it took about two weeks to see the difference. I use Thayers. It has aloe, glycerin, etc. Near as I can tell, it is all natural.
I followed this tonic to the tee and sprayed on Wed. and by friday, my lawn seemed to be turning brown. Noone shows any before or after pictures and nothing says anywhere that it will turn brown before it turns green. Has anyone experienced this?
A book that really helped my husband and I combined our finances is "Your Money or Your Life." It helps you set goals, talk about plans, and evaluate priorities. It really prompted some good discussions!
Great article! I started part-time bike commuting two summers ago and love it. I love saving on gas and burning some calories. I've noticed that if I don't commit to what days I'm going to bike commute, then it's easy to fall back on my car.
I echo the other statements made so far - I wear a helmet, wear brightly colored shirts, and I'm super cautious at intersections and places where cars dont seem to pay attention (daycare & fast food entrances/exits !)
Grocery store points can take .10 and more off per gallon, sometimes you get cents of per gallon by purchasing a fuel card, map quest has a feature that allows you to search for the cheapest gas in your zip code, and we stay home more. :)
Great list! I discovered after the holidays that they make perfect storage bags for wreaths and garland. The bags keep them dust-free, but they're clear so you can easily see what's in them.
I wish I was but I'm not much of a long term planner. I can do with short term plans but I can never focus enough to sit down and come up with a big long term plan.
I use the Wal-Mart discover card which gives me $.05 off of every gallon of gas. They seem to be pretty competitive in pricing already. I also try to combine trips to save driving anywhere extra for one thing.
Thanks for the mention Sharktooth, the Mountain Dew recipe is a work in progress.
Meg,
Wonderful article! I've linked it onto my blog's links and references page, I hope you don't mind.

Does this really work?
Goal-setting is really important in the pursuit of your dreams.

Not saying this mid worthless but it did not work on the dent in my car.

Man I'm glad I found this. Buying razor blades will put me in the poor house.

How much Fat is added if u use sugar?
I'm pretty good at making a long term plan. I have it planned out in my head. Problem is getting short term plans to work in their interest.
"Liked" you on Facebook! Thanks for the great giveaways.

If your teen happens to be in college, another good resource to teach them about money is http://www.thestudentwallet.com

I like AtoZwire.com for Amazon only deals. They seem to find stuff fast enough that I can repost it to Slickdeals before anyone else has seen it.
