I am looking forward to buying a house. I think I finally have everything in order so that I can buy a house without any pressure on my financials. It will actually be cheaper then what I am paying for rent right now.
I have had a long-standing battle with myself over giving up the soda. Maybe 15 years long? I'm 41. I decided my New Year's resolution last year would be to give it up -- yet again. It took me until almost November, but I did it!!! I only drink it occasionally now, and even then, I really feel physically bad and always regret it. I never thought I would say it, but soda doesn't appeal to me anymore.
I'm looking forward to a missions trip to Honduras. I'm going with a group to help in an orphanage for 10 days -- SO COOL! Can't wait!
Other than that, I'm looking forward to warm kayaking weather, a trip to Disney World that our family has been saving diligently for, and summer breezes in my hammock.
In 2012 I am most looking forward to paying cash for our family vacation, Paying our daughters university bill in-full for the whole year, building our savings back up by being even more frugal, and hopefully having my daughters doctors find the right course of treatment for her to feel much better so that she can continue to have a wonderful university experience! Also, I would LOVE for there to be found a cure for Type 1 diabetes, which my son has, which is an auto-immune disease, totally different than Type 2. ~ Melinda
We are starting out 2012 with a more steady and higher income than 2011, so I'm really looking forward to getting our debts paid down and repairing our credit.
Great list. I used to think that it would have been hard to achieve some of the things that you listed. But sometimes making certain choices in life (like studying for an MBA) forces you to change your habits. For e.g. I had to reduce TV and Facebook to have more time to study and I had to eliminate unnecessary expenses so that I could comfortably pay for the MBA. lololol.
If I were you, I'd rather try to negotiate the landlord first for a lower rental cost. Afterwards, whatever the landlords decisions that is the time for you to decide whether to stay or to transfer.
Not that I hate to drink in bars but I just find it useless and expensive. I make sure, I'm full before meeting my friends in that way I can save more.
One of my biggest pet peeves is that while all of the above tips (and many more) are great money-savers for people who are already making ends meet and just want more cash in the bank, they suck for people who are significantly in debt and are always billed as "How to be debt-free!" or "How to get out of debt fast!". As someone else already said - most of these people are financially clueless, so the tips might be new to them, but they're also not disciplined enough to follow through.
As someone who's (mostly) disciplined with money, and who has found site after site pandering to the lowest common denominator, I'd like at least one personal finance site that tells you how best to make ends meet when you've followed all 100 tips for slashing your budget (including slice'n'dicing the overdue credit cards and buying food in bulk to save money) and still are running into the red on the budget spreadsheet each month. Are there other tips, like gardening and finding ways to alternate payments so that you avoid late fees (to some degree) but don't have to pay all your bills every month (because paying them all would put the budget into the red)?
THAT is the stuff that I as a smart but drowning-in-student-loan-debt non-spender would like to see. I live a frugal lifestyle and try to avoid paying full price for anything, but it's still not enough and the pf blogs I've seen talk down to readers. I want something smarter!
This year I received the best gift ever -- having my whole family with me back at church. My husband and step-son had quit going for a year, and whether they notice it or not, our family life hasn't been so peaceful since then. I really loved being able to see them next to me on the pew yesterday. :)
BD-That is interesting because you and I are in the same boat. I sent my modification information to BOA in the end of August. They send me a fed ex package and say we need additional information, all the while, I am getting phone calls from a rep and a automated system indicating that my file is in processing. I send the add. info just in case, finally got a letter the other day saying, I am in processing. Well, I am fed up with their crap. I am planning on missing a few payments here and there to see if I can get there attention. I am so tired of them getting bail out money and not helping the people that need it the most.
The medication that I was prescribed was clyndamicin - a topical foam. Combined with stopping my birth control pills, it was effective treatment. I'm afraid that I can't offer medical advice, since I'm not remotely close to qualified to do so. I do know that red wine can exacerbate some types of acne, but I have never heard of it contributing to cystic acne.
You say you've taken cortisone shots for it already?
The best gift I ever received was probably when I was a chubby teenager, and my parents got my siblings and me a Dance Dance Revolution game and a dance pad. I was so delighted when I unwrapped it, and I continued to use it almost daily for over a year, which helped me to lose weight and win a campus-wide DDR competition my first year of college.
As always great tips Ashley! Will have to put these on my reading list over vacation.

What I'm most looking forward to in 2012..is changes !!
My personal changes....
Being an amateur Minimalist,... I will try to keep this trend, and will see where I'll be in 2013.
Achieving the goals I set for myself!
I look forward to the daily ways my husband cherishes me w/acts of grace large or small!
I'm looking forward to buying our first home!

A couple of Christmas ago my wife gave me a Nascar ride-along experience at the Delaware Speedway. That was a very cool experience.

Love that answer!
That sounds awesome! How neat your nephew is named after your grandpa. Very sweet. :)
I like add more culture to your life and reduce the alcohol intake best but all good advice. I am going to read them again~
