My favorite Thanksgiving budget dish or comfort food is candied yams! I love them with heaps of brown sugar, pecans, and toasted marshmallows on top! It makes me happy!
my favorite budget food is the turkey. It was 59 cents a lb. I bought 2 because I am also bringing one to work, all sliced up on Christmas day. I should have bought more. I always get the smallest ones I can find. I freeze some for later, share some with friends, and make soup. My turkey soup requires the bones with a little meat on them, lots of cooking time, and onions, celery, parsnips, and carrots. Sometimes I add egg noodles. I also freeze my soup, and share it with friends.
Just had the same thing happen to me yesterday. Family in Africa, they would send the keys and agreement by mail etc... They were trying to be so convincing that they sent me pictures of their family (white, blond haired and blue eyed family) UNREAL!!!
Since we're vegetarians, we save by not buying a turkey, and eating a lot of yummy sides. Most of our vegetables, rolls and pies come from our local Farmer's Market.
Yeah, before the evil unions people were working 80-90 hours per week for 10 cents an hour under conditions a rat wouldn't tolerate. And if you complained, you wouldn't have a job at all. As unions have become weaker, the rich have become richer, and the middle class has disappeared.
As far as hoarding goes, I think that is just wrong. We have a columnist in our local paper that bragged she had bought 90 cans of soup this week for a pittance ( a coupon for .88, doubled plus another coupon.) But when I went to get some, it was all gone, from THREE different stores.
I save money by shopping for things I may need for the meal ahead of time, splitting costs with family members by doing it potluck style, and utilizing grocery store rewards.
The confusion is that it's not explicitly stated that Kindle's $13.99 price tag is per month, not per week. Just changing that portion of the sentence slightly to read "On Kindle, it's $13.99 per month," would clarify it.
(Of course, I realize it's years and years past the publication of this post... I just thought the commentor had a point.)
The comfort foods that are "required" for any meal involving Roasted Turkey, in my house are mashed potatoes, stuffing (bread and sausage based) and gravy! These are must haves around here. One time I didn't have the stuffing and you would have thought the world was going to end - never again. These are always together

My favorite Thanksgiving comfort food is cranberry sauce! I love the sweet taste and contrast to turkey flavor.
I'm only cooking for three, its much cheaper than cooking for more!

Stuffing and macaroni & cheese are my favorites. And they both have to be homemade, of course.
I think home made applesauce is an economical comfort food. It seems to complement any menu.
