Favorite comfort food has to be stuffing; it definitely is not a budget buster, even if you use pretty decent bread as a base to start out with. Budget wise, I think it's important to be a good host and offer variety, but it is so easy to waste food. I like to be aware of my guests and make sure I'm making things that everyone likes and will eat, not making food that I just think compliments other dishes or looks like it belongs (no one in my family really likes green bean casserole, even if there is an inordinate amount of commercials on the TV for it right now...)
My favorite Thanksgiving comfort food would be stuffing! Sage; cornbread; and oyster stuffing are the best. I love everything about Thanksgiving, but stuffing is the best!
My favorite Thanksgiving side is both a comfort food and frugal-schnitzel beans. The recipe is simple. Fresh green beans are sauteed with onion and garlic and then simmered with any type of canned tomatoes for about a half hour. To finish, sprinkle with crumbled crisp bacon. The tomato based sauce is a nice contrast from the regular Thanksgiving sides and at the same time compliments them deliciously. Try it!
Everything pumpkin! Pumpkin pie, bread, soup, stuffed pumpkin even ice cream. I've even found a recipe for pumpkin guts bread, which uses the stringy stuff you scoop out of the pumpkin, minus the seeds. It's delicious!
Thanks for sharing, Andrea. That's a good point -- people who can't have sugar or dairy are going to have more trouble planning dessert. Anyone have any suggestions for sugar/dairy-free desserts?
you didn't mention if you used lotion or not in your column, your skin will age significantly if you did not, if you did use indoor tanning lotion was it good quality? In door tanning is extremely safe when you tan smart. Please don't think I am saying you didn't but you openly admitted that you never used SPF while you where growing up, so how can you blame tanning in a controlled environment? I really don't know of a single person that can positively blame a tanning bed for cancer, just my thoughts...
Hello! I am a "newbie" to trying to make healthy, gluten-free bread. I have a recipe for a whole grain gluten-free flour mix which I like because it doesn't contain any starches. It consists of brown rice flour, sorghum flour and millet flour. I attempted to use that flour mix in this bread recipe and the bread didn't rise but instead turned out very dense (very moist and delicious, but dense). I was wondering if you have any tips on how I could use my flour mix within this recipe or will I definitly need to use some sort of starch in my mix in order to get "fluffier" gluten-free bread?
Because I can't really eat anything with much sugar in it, my go-to dessert is part-skim ricotta cheese mixed into a teaspoon of dark cocoa powder, a splash of sugar-free almond flavoring, and a bit of Splenda. Is it the same as a chocolate torte? No, but it hits the spot for this diabetic.
My favorite comfort food for Thanksgiving is Daddy's Green Dressing. Sadly, this is our second Thanksgiving without Daddy and his famous dressing. I miss them both!
works excellent on jewerly....i've been cleaning my herringbones, rope chains and rings with it for years...you will be amazed @ how well it works..on
rings and rope chains i use an old soft tooth brush..apply toothpaste with warm water..scrub wih toothbrush, rinse and wipe with a nonabraisive soft cloth.on herringbone apply toothpaste, let dry, rinse with warm water, wipe with softcloth...
I love all Thanksgiving food, so it's hard to pick a favorite. I think that my favorite would have to be dressing. I'll eat any kind, and I could eat a whole pan of it if I had no self-restraint. Can't wait for next Thursday!
My favorite Thanksgiving budget dish is mashed potatoes. Right now, many grocery stores have B1G1 Free deals on 5 or 10 lb bags; which can make a lot of potato dishes! I also enjoy making home fries (I use 2 peeled/sliced potatoes, 1/4 cup chopped onion with a tad of oil and fry it on the pan) - GREAT side dish for any occasion!
This is one of the first years that mobile phone apps will come in great handy to those who love black friday deals, but hate the mob scene at the mall. The smart thing to do is to sit back and check your favorite stores sites for deals, and do your purchasing on the internet. Problem solved! No stores, crowds, or moms fighting over the very last game on the shelf. Skip the headache and download an app that will alert you when items on your wish list are at their lowest prices.
Green bean casserole with fried onions on top is both economically pleasing and crowd pleasing. It be just be me but I could eat fried onions straight out of the canister so if anything can liven up green beans, it would be these.
My favorite side dish is definitely broccoli cheese casserole. To make it more budget friendly, I simplified the recipe to just three ingredients: broccoli, condensed broccoli cheese soup, and crushed butter crackers for the topping! Bake @350 until the casserole is bubbly and the cracker topping is crisp....I'm obsessed!

My favorite Thanksgiving dish is mashed potatoes with homemade gravy from the turkey drippings. Delish!

For sure it's the mashed potatoes. Creamy with lots of butter and gravy. Delish!!!
The site I've used that I still think is the best is http://www.truecar.com but checking different sites is always a good idea.
My budget dish and favorite comfort dish are one in the same. Mashed potatoes are to die for!

My favorite dish is my Mom's Thanksgiving Sweet potatoes. Its an especially sweet dish that we only indulge in at the holidays. - @Karenmp31

I look forward to my mom's pumpkin pie. She puts a pecan glaze over the top and it perfectly tops off the Thanksgiving meal.

My favorite budget dish is stuffing. Bread is cheap, and there are so many ways to prepare it. Everyone can be happy with stuffing.

Comfort food: Sis's broccoli casserole.
Budget food: definitely stuffing. We all contribute our saved bread and we end up with mounds of it!

My favorite comfort dessert is the chocolate cream pie!! No matter how much I stuffed myself , I have have to have the chocolate pie!
