You hit several of my favorites on here. When I used to have a grill, my friends and I would combine the grilled fruit and panini ideas to make grilled dessert sandwiches.
This is even less homemade, but I like to keep a small stash of decent chocolate in my freezer -- if I need something sweet super quick, it's nice to be able to just take that out. My favorite lately has been the Trader Joe's dark chocolate with salted caramel.
I think it is very easy to fall into the trap of poverty=frugality. In reality, some people have grown up in a frugal environment where their parents' spending habits were conservative - including limited spending on luxuries and attempting to save money where they can. If you were brought up in such a family, your intuition is probably to act the same.
For people who were brought up in free-spending surroundings, they are more likely to be accustomed to a more liberal spending behaviour. Regardless of the reasoning behind it, it can be difficult to break this pattern, especially if you're still in the same family environment.
Living frugally in an environment which thinks in the same way is obviously the easiest. An example of a difficulty to be frugal: in many developed countries, friends meet in pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues - all of which cost money. If you want to socialise; you have to spend money. This cycle can be very difficult to get out of -- reducing expenditure, means reducing social. Such a consumption-led culture doesn't mean you cannot be frugal, but it does present real limitations.
Agreed! But I don't like hanging out in crowds anyway...being in a crowd of people who are all trying to rush to great deals before they sell out just sounds awful, personally.
I love those Fresh & Easy coupons! My first LA apartment was in walking distance of a Fresh & Easy. I don't miss that apartment, but I do miss living that close to a reasonably priced grocery store.
Thank you WB! I love more excuses to drink coffee, and these are really good ones. Not excuses, but real reasons! But is it still ok if I drink espresso out and about? I spend a little more, but the flavor is just way too good to pass up! Are the health benefits and other perks the same for drip coffee and espresso?
This is why America is going down the drain. Spending money is good and scavenging for free stuff is bad. The movie business is already slowly disappearing with netflix and movies becoming digital, the movie industry is trying to bump out the theater and go directly into you homes. The old 35mm is hard to find and that was what was keeping movie theaters alive. So if you love the movie theater experience so much, suck it up and pay because by doing that you are keeping that experience alive for your kids' generation and the ones fallowing.
We make pumpkin pie from our Halloween pumpkins which we grow in our summer garden. The flavor is great. The cost is minimal for the milk, eggs, sugar, spices. We love the fact that the pies are homegrown.
I have had rubber bands melt together and on bundled items, over time, making a real mess. I have learned that they may be stored in the fridge or freezer indefinitely without losing their stretch. Flipp
Start buying what you need early. Most times stores have the things you need on sale up to a month early. Use coupons to increase your saving. Get recipes for what you can do with those leftovers. That is the biggest savings tip. Everyone gets tired of the basic thanksgiving fare but if you change it up you can use those leftovers and they will be enjoyed by all.
I enjoy having the baked sweet potatoes. I add a bit of butter and cinnamon and not care if there is anything else on the table (perhaps except for some roasted chestnuts)
It sounds hard to do but not really IF you scrutinize everything you WANT to buy individually. If you cut out most candy, soda, baked goods, basically anything that you eat based on desire & taste vs. nutritional value you can save a lot of cash. Also, drinking water vs. juice, soda is a helpful strategy because that is better for you and doesn't affect the quality of meals.
Coupons are great IF your only using ones for items you'd purchase anyways but they are a trap if your buying a package of cookies solely because of the price after the coupon.
Here in Arizona (and California) I like Fresh & Easy because their own brands are cheap and good in quality + the often have $5 off $25 coupons which can help you save even more.
As a child I was a loner....I had no friends.....I am 23 and...I still dont have a real friend from whom I can get happiness from...All the people whom I considered as my friends were just a mere taking advantage of me.....I want people around me to love....I want at least one colleauge in office with whom I can have lunch..... If i feel like hanging out or doing crazy stuff....there should be some1......I dont mean I need a boyfriend......All I need is a TRUE FRIEND.....
I want to take revenge from people who have made a fool of me....
I want to proove to some people around me that I have brains and capability of prooving myself....
I know I am a smart lady...But I need one oportunity to prrove myself....
I have wasted so many years of my life not doing some things which I could have....
I need a happy family.... All my parents do i work work work....I love them..And i know they work to make our life better...But I want them to take a chill pill in their life and just go on a world tour and just be with each other...
I have always helped some people when they were in need.....But when I was in trouble...No I cared....This world is filled with selfish people...
I want selfless love and care from a friend...............And just roam the whole world with her doing some crazy stuff......
My favorite budget dish for Thanksgiving is the classic green bean casserole. All you need is a can of Cream of Mushroom soup, green beans, french fried onions, some milk and a little bit of soy sauce. It's so easy!
NY STRIP WITH GRILLED SHRIMP @ SCALLOPS WITH CHERRY TOMATO AND SOUTHERN GREEN PEA SALAD. ALSO GERMAN RED POTATO SALAD WITH BALSAMIC VINEGAR. NO TURKEY OR DRESSING PLEASE.
There would be a revolt if I didn't make my sausage and turkey dressing - I precook a couple turkey wings with vegatables a couple days prior to the big day - and incorporate that into my dressing. It's a meal in its' self.
A really tough scenario was when my son got a Best Buy Credit Card. It took him forever to pay it off as the interest was in the upper 20% range. Finally we helped him with it and finally got it paid. Stay away from Department store credit cards.
holiday potatoes that are smooth like silk! Sour cream and cream cheese give this dish a white as snow look and insanely delicious flavor. A little salt goes a long way too!
I really agree with you on furniture. You can get nice condition bedroom furniture at a great price. I already bought 2 bedroom furniture sets. Your list of 25 contains really good items.
Great recipes! I often make apple tarts, danishes or turnovers using frozen puff pastry. They look so pretty, but they couldn't be easier.
I haven't tried that one yet -- I'll have to put it on my list. What would we do without Trader Joe's?

I love Hot Turkey Noodle soup...made with leftover turkey and veggies. It is a great comfort on the cold days.

I love the mashed potatoes I make, I roast garlic and mash it right in with it. It's so yummy!

My favorite Thanksgiving dish is Banana Wafer Pudding, bananas, vanilla wafers, pudding mix and cool whip on top. Mouth watering yummy!!!

That's a scary picture...
Let's just say I'm looking forward to Cyber Monday. Black Friday flashbacks are too traumatic.
My favorite comfort dish would have to be sweet potatoes! I love them with butter, cinnamon and brown sugar! Mmmm...
